I saw Robert Goulet perform twice in my lifetime. The first time I was very young, probably 10 years old or so. My parents had season tickets to the local musical theatre and every Friday night during the season, we went to see whomever was appearing that week. I didn't know most of them, but I came to love all the music to which my folks exposed me in those years. My memory of that performance was all the lights being turned off and a single spotlight being shone on the aisle from which Mr. Goulet would approach the stage. Everyone was silent and then, acapella, he began singing "On a Clear Day." WOW! Even a dopey 10 year old knew...that was MUSIC! The second time I saw him was in the early 2000s, I think, when he was touring in Camelot, but not in the role he was known for. He played King Arthur this time, and his voice was still just as rich and full as it had been 30 years earlier. I was fortunate enough to have seen Camelot two times with Richard Harris in the lead, but the role lost nothing to Robert Goulet. My folks are both gone now, but they live on in the love I still have for this music and this amazing talent. I'm so grateful.
As a french citizen, as a child, I heard of Robert Goulet, but slightly. I just discovered him seriously now, many decades after, and I am so impressed by his talent ! I wish I could have known him before ! I will try and spend some time discovering his work. Thank you for keeping his memory alive !
