Robert Morris Scandal: The Phone Call 

My sentiments all along on this! This man should have never been able to keep pastoring.

Yes! How did the parents and his wife not know this was happening in their own house for over 4 years!?! Why did they not turn him into the authorities? I saw Cindy interviewed on CBN and she hinted to more women "coming out of the woodwork".

Her parents’ failure to contact law enforcement is also part of the issue of pastors abusing their authority. They haven’t shared those specific details of the story, but I would bet her parents were pressured and manipulated to not call the police. It all points to the abuse of power that is rampant in the church at large.

Compasion is better than condemnation. We are compassionate to those who are already in jail regardless of their crimes, will we show same compassion to the one who did same crime and was not thrown in jail?

And David wasn’t a pastor. So there’s a part of me that wonders how much more Morris will be. My hope is that there is a genuine repentance. It’s forgiveable. But by direction of God thru Paul, this man should never again enter a pulpit. BUT my guess is he will be like others before him and be right back at it in short order…barring any possible jail time. So sad.

It was viewed as bad...but not as pedophilia. Puberty was the line that separated back then. Now we see a twelve year old as a little child. That was not that way in 1982. Nearly everybody under age 60 commenting on this doesn't get that. You can't judge 1982 sins by WORLDLY 2024 sensibilities. It is the WORLD that made teens into little children over the last 40 years. The Bible is full of underage sex by today's standards. 15 was the age for WOMEN to get married in general. He was however taking great advantage of a YOUNG WOMAN! He could have been charged with statutory ra**, but her parents didn't press charges. That was up to them. Not you! Not me! Not the police! The parents. Her problem now is with them if she wants to continue to have a problem after he was already exposed, and repented, and was shamed.. which he was.

I agree. But, as a woman who turns 69 soon, you must understand that the world was very different back in the 80’s. We in the church had very little concept, if any, of terms like “grooming” & reaching out to authorities, etc. As a matter of fact, sometimes back then when victims reached out to authorities the authorities turned a blind eye & made things worse for the victims & families.

Secondly, this was the church he was a member of, so he would know that he had been restored back to ministry as a pastor, or “let back into the pulpit”. I’ll assume you are a Christian, so I would point out that as despicable as Robert’s sins were, from 82 to 87, the blood has washed them clean at the cross. Don’t assume that everything that those that hate Robert and are out to punish him for what he did in the past, are saying is true, and everything Robert and Gateway say are lies. "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" John 7:24

Morris should have told her that it was inappropriate and wrong and told her dad before anything happened. If Morris had been a true born again believer he would have done that. He obviously took it as an opportunity to be a predator... Trust me I grew up in a family that threw their kids under the bus in order to keep the facade going. We were a prominent family in our town but my family was a mess.

You have statistics to back up your opinion. Unfortunately, once this behavior is acted out, it often continues. If there was evidence that Morris had truly repented, including accepting that biblically he could never pastor again, it's possible through God's grace he could have been delivered from this sin. As it stands, I don't think so.

My suspicion also, especially that he “bragged” during a sermon that he could have any woman he wanted as a teenager, his friends were in awe of him.

Hey, I'm all for the truth coming out and justice being dealt while still handing out mercy to the truly repentant but one thing I'll never agree with is making bold assumptions like this. Don't add more to a person's crime than has been revealed.

I don't think the wife is responsible, only Morris is. Women and children are blamed when they're raped , but it is more insidious. The rapist, his family and friends will blame the child or woman for being raped. Then many many women, who are unrelated to either the rapist or survivor, will in fact blame the survivor. Women judge other women extremely harshly. They will side with a male rapist. Luckily not all women blame the child or women for being raped by a male coward loser. P

I heard her in the CBN an interview say that she “remembered” She had been abused after watching Oprah, and getting counseling. She also stated that she thinks that he should be in prison. So after 40 years, she decides to make a public thing of this like it happened yesterday. Is there a book deal coming? A go fund me for her trauma? Her parents knew what happened whatever that was at the time and did not prosecute him. So they didn’t think whatever happened was that serious. What is her motive now for this? She has utterly destroyed this man’s life and it is entirely possible that she’s not telling the complete truth. And where are her parents? Are they still alive? What about her sister? It troubles me that nobody is questioning her truthfulness. Yes something happened but they did not have sex. I am not condoning a 21-year-old fooling around with a 16-year-old at any level but we don’t know if this all started when she was really 12 and we don’t really know what happened. We do know she was looking for money. We also know that Robert Morris never had a single incident of inappropriate behavior ever after that, and now this man’s life is utterly destroyed for an unproven accusation. And I say this is somebody who was sexually abused as a child, starting at the age of eight.
