Big shoutout to Robert Patrick this week and how much of an open book he was 👏👏 Here he talks about his struggles with substance abuse early on in his career and how he thinks it prevented the momentum of different opportunities he had available.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Robert Patrick (Peacemaker, Terminator 2) joins us this week and shares his unique perspective in this industry with a forty year tenure, no practical training, and missed opportunities before he found sobriety. Robert opens up on how despite how iconic his character as T-1000 was in Terminator, and how he owes his career to James Cameron, he had to change his appearance to distance himself from the character. We also talk about his chemistry and bond with John Cena, how Demi Moore’s psychic helped save his life, and how Robert got Clint Eastwood to break on set uncontrollably.

Agree 10000%. A lot of celebs have these issues but don’t talk about them because they don’t want to “look bad”. But Robert opening up about his problems, it may help 1 person…..and that alone is worth it. Respect to him for speaking out and being honest about his issues.

A sign of how good Robert Patrick was as T-1000 in T2 is that his performance, quite frankly, overshadowed one of the biggest action stars of all time in the same film. T2 is one of the greatest films of all time if you look at the whole package (acting, pacing, plot, special effects)...and it's a testament to Robert Patrick's acting that the T-1000 stands out, despite the fact that he was paired up with a man who was and still is larger than life

Rob was incredible in T2, that cold dead stare of his was something not just anyone could do, and what he did in X-Files and Millennium was just fantastic. Really underrated but I understand why it was difficult landing acting jobs after Terminator 2, it had an incredible impact which locked him in a certain category. Robert Patrick's one of those actors who kind of falls through the cracks a bit. He's done a lot of great work but most people don't recognize it at first until they give it a little bit of thought. And then then ya start to go back down memory lane and realize that the man's been in a ton of great projects.
@Elly3981

Robert is a wonderful actor. It's a shame that he never got a starring role in his own movie.
@gimmethepinkelephant3685
@gimmethepinkelephant3685 11 месяцев назад
@@Elly3981 eh, some people are just meant to be great back-up. And I guess he's one of those guys or gals. But sometimes it's those people who end up with the best careers because they can still get away with being themselves and still pick up work without having to sellout to Hollywood's bullshit. Ya get what I mean? And Patrick seems to be one of those types. So he's probably happy with what he's got. Steady work without the hassle of people being up his ass 24/7.
@Elly3981
@Elly3981 11 месяцев назад
@@gimmethepinkelephant3685 Well, he's had some pretty good supporting roles and sometimes people are more intrigued by those characters than the actual starring one, but yeah. Robert seems pretty good at staying out of trouble and hasn't had any scandals that I'm aware of while Arnie has been discovered having a child out of wedlock with his housekeeper.
@gimmethepinkelephant3685
@gimmethepinkelephant3685 11 месяцев назад
@@Elly3981 eh, I'm not too bothered by that stuff. Everyone has either their problems or someone in their family has. So I just kind of kick that crap to the wayside. But when you're in the spotlight it hits hard. And what I meant was that he's been able to weed his way through without cancel culture or anything else infecting his worklife. And that's a hard thing to do in Hollywood. Especially these days. I feel like we're living in Puritanical times, but in some kind of sick version of it where you're only ok if you bow down to that sickness. There doesn't seem to be any room anymore for people who just act normal according to Human Evolution...lol!
@Elly3981

@@gimmethepinkelephant3685 Unfortunately, Hollywood isn't kind to most of its actors regardless of their age or how successful they've been in the past. If you're a public figure and make one tiny mistake, people don't want to forgive you or give you any slack either.

Robert has such integrity telling the world what he went through. His role as T2 transcends anything Hollywood could have thrown at him. When Striptease came out a few years later, I just had to see it, not because I liked Demi Moore, but because I wanted to see how Robert looked when he laughed and smiled, something he obviously couldn't do playing the T-1000 on T2. I thought Robert was hilarious as Demi Moore's ex-husband and wheelchair thief.

As amazing as Arnold was, and always will be, the reason I saw T2 multiple times was the T1000 and Robert Patrick. The action sequences to start the film off were off the charts!! It’s interesting to hear that he had to clean it up and train like that for the role. Being in my late teens when I saw the movie, I thought he was perfect. This honesty, and openness is refreshing and I feel even can help people. I honestly can’t blame him for partying after T2. If he had been at it for a while, and then hit the jackpot right around thirty years old I think that’s what everyone hopes for, and been a dream come true. I would like to hear him talk about DieHard 2, that must have been a fun shoot as well.

Robert had to work hard before he finally hit the big time. Edward Furlong, on the other hand, got it without even trying. The kid literally had a huge acting role tossed right into his lap because he was at the right place, at the right time, and noticed by the right people. He had potential for a successful acting career as an adult but blew it. At least Robert was able to make good on his success and landed many more memorable roles. Eddie is pretty much forgotten.
