Robert Plant being interviewed on BBC Breakfast Wed 10th Sep 2014 about his new album 'Lullaby and . . . The Ceaseless Roar' Had to remove the music in the middle
Sat with Robert at the Wolves...A gent...down to earth...pleasent...he sat next me and started talking to me as though we were next door neighbour...A genuine sincere man pleasure to meet him
I met him a couple of at Stourbridge he signed my programme when back in 2001 I think when we played Stapenhill Town spoke more about Cradley Speedway & Bathams more than football really nice gentleman.
very well put...i met him in camden mkt - he was such a welcoming happy soul yet mesmerising....perhaps i was just starstruck....but boy he has what they call "aura".....nice guy
+Mayanatai he's a rock star, as huge as it gets, and a singer! that's a recipe for disaster, so what can you expect, really? But still, I've met local singers who are so full of themselves they can't even talk normally for 5 min. At least he actually has a legend status.
Plant just seems like a totally cool guy. There's a lot of depth to his character and music. Always been fascinated by the man and his music. Love his song Somebody There.
Robert never rested on his laurels or even really traded on Led Zeppelin. He has kept making original music, drawing in people from all over the world to work with and bringing their talents to the attention of the people. Respect and love.
What a great interview. For someone of his history and fame, he has not failed to ignore the shitty stuff (or at least doesn't show it) and seems to be living a peaceful life the way he wants to. He's definitely on my list of "people I want to stay up all night and have a deep conversation about the universe with". What true a star.
Love how after all these years of people praising and basically worshipping him, he just keeps it real. A charming, funny laid back guy who just loves music. Would be amazing to have a beer with him and just shoot the shit.
One of the best interviews on the planet. Robert always keeps it interesting,. > The new album 'Lullaby and the Ceaseless Roar' is fantastic. Truly one of his best since 'Pictures at Eleven'.~ Rob/Boston
Yes. Totally agree. To me, it always comes back to "Pictures at Eleven", and "The Principle of Moments". After Zeppelin, he paved a new path for himself. He didn't so much reinvent himself, as he moved forward with a level of maturity and restraint. He refused to play Zeppelin for the first 3 or 4 tours. To me, that shows what a true artist is. And those first albums were so personal, mature, intelligent and adventurous. He also surrounded himself with some amazing artists (most notably, and importantly, Robbie Blunt and Phil Collins).
I really appreciate this response to my comment. I am a longtime fan and collector of The Mighty Blimp and it is always a pleasure hearing from other fans. Have you seen Plant live? Rob/Boston
Paneeks1960 I saw "The Firm" at Mercer Arena, in Seattle, in 1985, when i was 14. I saw Plant in 1988, also in Seattle. Its right when he started playing zeppelin songs again. He played "communication breakdown", but the highlight was "In the Mood". Then I saw Page/Plant in 1995, in Tacoma. Great concert, bad seats. Out of all of those shows, The Firm stands out as one of the best shows I have seen, ever. They played about 8 encores, seriously about 8. They just kept coming back. I left twice, and had to run back in when I heard them come back on stage. Plus, The Firm was a real concert. It was general admission seating, and everybody could congregate around the stage, which was about 10 feet above everybody. There was a problem with people pushing, but it got sorted out. Lots of herb flowing around to EVERYBODY. At 14, I was handed about 5 pipes and lighters. Which at 14, in the audience by myself, Jimmy Page 10 feet away from me? I was in heaven. How about you?
Excellent response. We were both seeing The Firm and Plant during those tours in separate cities. I cannot remember every time I saw Robert because there has been quite a few. But to make it easy I have seen all of his solo tours except two in the last ten years. I saw him a lot more in the 80's and 90's in different cities. The 83 tour at the Centrum in Worcester Mass was a highlight. It was the night of the infamous shoe/sneaker incident. I am sure you can find the story on the Net somewhere. > Another great night was when he played with Stevie Ray Vaughn at Great Woods in Mansfield, Mass back in 1988. I saw Page play at the ARMS Festival in Madison Square Garden in 1983. Also with The Firm at the same venue as well as Boston Garden. I saw his Outrider tour as well. Plus the Page/Plant tours in 95 and 98 were great. I saw Led Zeppelin also at Madison Square Garden on June 10, 13th and the 14th in 1977. Those were the three highlights of my concert days. I went from upper balcony {blue seats} on the 10th, lower arena {yellow seats} on the 13th and the last show out of the six I sat dead center 21st row. My cousin and I bought the seats for $50 a piece off a scalper. That was the best show I ever saw and I have seen out of 300 plus concerts. I was 16 at the time and seeing my favorite band three nights out of six was a dream come true. Thanks to my cousin who lives in NY or else I would not have been allowed to go. > You would have loved it. NYC and especially around the Garden was filled with Zeppelin fans. We met up with fans in restaurants, record stores and just hanging out on the side of the Garden. Boom boxes and car stereos blasting their studio and live albums. It was something that I will never forget. I still have my original jerseys, program and ticket stubs. I also saw them perform at Live Aid in 1985 down at JFK Stadium in Philly. Lastly I saw them at Madison Square Garden in 1988 when they played at Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary with Jason Bonham on drums. It sounded excellent inside but the tapes of the show was not the best. That is just about it for the Might Blimp and solo shows that I can remember. It was cool being able to share these memories with you. Hope you dug hearing about them~ Rob/Boston
Paneeks1960 Great story man!! Its rare that I come across somebody, who has seen Zeppelin live! So, hearing all the details was awesome! That's so cool that your cousin lived there, and made it possible for you to take the trip on your own. I had a sister in Seattle, and that's how I got to go to The Firm. Your 77' NY story kind of reminded me of that part in the "Song Remains The Same", when security lets those kids in the back entrance, even though they didn't have tickets. You don't see anybody THAT psyched to see a band today. In fact, I think it was rare back then. Zeppelin had that magic about them. I discovered Zeppelin when I was 13, in 82'. So didn't get the chance to see them live. I actually discovered solo plant, the same time I was discovering Zeppelin. That year, at 13, was pretty amazing, in that every time I had the money, I would go and buy a new Zeppelin album (about an album every 2 months). The excitement about hearing something new by Zeppelin, that I hadn't heard, was just magic. I started out with only one record from Physical Graffiti. It was the record with Kashmir. It was my sister's record (never knew what happened to the other record!). She was about 8 years older, and left it behind at the house. I listened to that one religiously, with headphones every night. So, I always wished I was born 8 years earlier, so I could see Zeppelin live. But, I have the bootlegs, and the stories, like yours, so it makes up for it.
I'm one of the huge fans of Led Zepplin and Mr. Plant in North Africa. He visited my country Tunisia and seems to be influenced by our berber music. He has no idea how he has influenced us too !
Not arrogant at all, he is such a eloquent speaker I am so happy I grew up with them as my genre And High School years with all the great rock bands of the 70's on To me best rich band ever!! Just love music 🎶 Rock on Robert you all still Rock 🎸 JPJ and JP
Thank you so much LZ Joker, whoever you are. You have made a few late risers, who missed this on TV, very happy! Great interview, very succinct. Robert looking very tasty in a flowery shirt. And at that time in the morning. Amazing..
Yes, Plant was quite gregarious and charming, wasn't he? As are J.Page and Jonesy for the most part, in their interviews. I imagine they still get frustrated at imbecilic questions often enough-but, fortunately this pair kept it fairly interesting, considering the time allotment and format.
Wow!!! what a beautiful humble soul u are Robert!! Have been a fan from way way back since yr first album ever evolving you are You truly are the greatest and Led Zepplin Keep making that music so we cant listen to that voice of yrs God Bless You
I've been a huge fan since the seventies and have always thought that Robert Plant was special. He's an intelligent but humble person who realises that he has had a very fortunate life and has been able to visit all these different countries and find out about their music. I don't believe you Mayanatai.
You sound like some disgruntled parent listening to rock in the 1960s and calling it devil's music. Pete Towsnhend for example thinks rap is good... But after all they're just opinions dude, they don't mean anything. Both rock and rap have their roots in jazz and blues.
Richi Rich not all rap is bad, but it’s kind of hard to think it’s good with the music that’s out today. Overused repetitive beats with some garbage lyrics thrown on top. No emotion or passion put into it.
Surprising. The African American culture moved from indirect communication with guitar to direct with the spoken word despite rhe artistic aspect decreasing since the 80s.
I love this interview and have watched it lots of times. What a really nice, knowledgeable and humble man Robert Plant is. I would very much like to have a beer or three with him and talk music!
Led Zeppelin were a HEAVY ROCK BLUES BAND.............they were NEVER in the pop main stream. In the 1970's people like me bought their records...we were the 1% but that was all it took to make them the biggest rock band in the world....Loyal fans to this day I've been a fan for 45 years and never applied for any of those O2 tickets .........too old to get court up in that fiasco. Come on Robert...........sort it out mate and give us true fans one last blast before we go back to mother earth......... Fook the media......they NEVER supported Led Zeppelin in the beginning/ever...........and were only too willing to kill off Led Zeppelin when punk shyt became the next new wave! REAL MUSIC and LED ZEPPELIN will never die. Rock on.
Legend, the word is thrown around now days at any and all 2bit singer,s who the record company,s push out to make a buck of, but ROBERT PLANT is one of the greatest Legend,s of all , his career with ZEPPELIN, his solo work, his collaboration with Alison Krauss, the band of joy and the incredible space shifter's will stand the test of time, A TRUE ROCK AND ROLL GOD. PEACE BE WITH YOU MY FRIEND'S.✌️😎🏴🇺🇦
Charming as ever Mr. Plant. Who wouldn't buy snake oil from you gladly!? Luckily for us bewitched out here it is your gorgeous music instead...or has the magic gone into it as well? Mmm, me thinks so and long may you reign, Robert!
I wonder if his Grandkids play together for Robert's Birthday and play some old Zeppelin songs? It's Robert's decision to play and record whatever type music he wishes. But if he wanted to sell out at the largest stadiums across the world, he would have to reunite with the remaining 3 from Zeppelin, and maybe Jason Bonham, or another top rated drummer.. But if he wishes to just do his own thing, that's great and his decision. He wont make a $$$Billion dollars doing it though. I seen Zeppelin perform live in Louisville, Ky in 1977. I bought 10 tickets, all the limit, my buddy got cut's back in line and so he bought 20 tickets. I think they were maybe $10.50 or something, but sold for $100 each, except to a couple friends. We partied all night waiting for tickets to go on sale at Freedom Hall in Louisville. The best concert I've ever been to,,and I've seen some really good bands, including Pink Floyd, Queen, etc.. It was open festival seating, or standing, down in the floor area and we got straight out maybe 25' from the stage. Wow what a performance it was too!
COME ON ROBERT......................... I've been a fan for over 45 years..................sort it out please......................"just one more, just one more"................Rock on.
I'd love to talk shwaya with Robert in Arabic he even seems to understand the difference between accents which are soooo diverse across Arabic countries. He's an undying talent w mn akbar el moatherin in rock music inshalla aqder ashofo shi yom ❤
I just want to draw attention to the fact that, Robert Plant seems to know his shit about music. How many famous singers are out there that, when they are being asked to define their genre of music, they don't articulate this very well or give some evasive answer? Plant sounds like he's actually studied this shit. So yeah, that's all I wanted to say.

Not a bad concept 2020 - 2033 Then do another gig 2040 - 2045/2050 don’t know been doing the gig since 1993 so learnt a long time ago listing to all the old codgers but well thirty one years of age one Adam Greenwood’s an old codger too one twelve year old daughter and all that’s it though once got children automatically an old codger, that was the 20’s years of age bring up a kid till the kid all in the eyes “look you fuck get out and do it”
1:12 - Interesting.....not only did he know of Otis Rush (who wrote "I can't Quit You"), he actually played with him......absolutely fascinating! When I see/hear Zeppelin's version, knowing that Otis didn't pass away until (I think) 2018, I have wondered what he thought of their version and whether or not he was miffed they never gave credits to the authors of their many hits. Not kicking Zep for not doing it, just curious if creating artists like Otis Rush were as bent about as so many virtue signalling internet Karens seem to be....
