No tattoos. No make-up. No vulgar language. Only the most notorious history of backstage sexual antics and taking advantage of underage groupies of any band that ever existed. Jimmy Page had a long standing relationship with a groupie who was 14 when he met her. Any average person would have a record and would have been doing time for that one.

Robert Plant can rightfully be considered the most influential, most emulated vocalist in rock history. Period.
@robertbykowski1398
@robertbykowski1398 7 лет назад
Wrong. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley and Mick Jagger can all be considered more influential as rock vocalists. Easily.
@BBaldwin
@BBaldwin 7 лет назад
Robert Bykowski Nonsense. I am referring to a 'frontman vocalist' of course, Elvis is in his own category and is easily the most influential musician in history. John Lennon does not fit this category and I disagree, with respect to Jagger. No frontman is more emulated, and consequently, more influential than Plant. Plant spawned generations of vocalists who emulated his vocal style and panache, particularly those in the 80s
@BBaldwin
@BBaldwin 7 лет назад
Again, McCartney and Lennon do not fit this category, as they are not standalone vocalists.
@DualityofManLimited
@DualityofManLimited 6 лет назад
Plant's influence as a front man vocalist essentially ended with the '80s. The next generation didn't grow up on Led Zeppelin and could not have cared less. Name a '90s era vocalist who emulated Plant -- aside from possibly Chris Cornell one can't.

Robert Plant has more integrity than most rock stars. Yes, I would love to see him sing with Page and Jones, but I saw him last year in a week when I also saw Aerosmith and Black Sabbath. No prizes for guessing who provided the most interesting show. For the record, Sabbath were exactly what you would expect and Aerosmith played a great rock and roll show. Plant, however, played an interesting, progressive show that also rocked. All power to him.

It's taken me a long time to understand Robert Plant. He could be playing stadiums with Zeppelin but instead marches forward rather than back around and down the same road again. He's very clear about this at the end of the interview, he can't be "any of the guys he used to be." The world would love, and pay very large to replay the past, and he just wants to go forward. Perhaps is best to remember Zeppelin for what they were.

Great interview with such a legendary but genuine artist who forges on and evolves with his music. I love all his solo adventures and never tire of his voice. He may not have the vocal range of his 20's but his music is always interesting and ever changing. Still has the magic and charm of his youth at 65...love the progressiveness of his life philosophies. Rock on Percy!
@tommypetersen2540
@tommypetersen2540 8 лет назад
He's become old ( or rather matured) in the sense that he doesn't act like he hasn't"aged" and that makes me respect him even more. Zeppelin had their time and have ( so far) chosen to remember the past and cherish it, but are thankfully not trapped there. They don't want to become a "nostalgia act" and chose to remain relevant. So many bands just try to hang on to old glories ( I'm talking to you Deep Purple or whoever you guys are now). His solo stuff clearly shows that he loves music and is so ooen to change and challenging musical styles. His Raising Sand album is one of the most haunting things I have ever heard.

Yes I completely agree! My dad, they've been his favorite band his whole life (he's 63 now), is angry and frustrated that they won't go on tour again and robert won't sing with them, and I try to explain to him that i'm SO GLAD they don't. I mean, I'd cut off my left arm to see them in concert even once, but more than anything I don't want zeppelin to force the music and chip away at what they were in the past - their legacy. It's undeniable that Plant's voice isn't what it once was, Page/Jones would tone down their power/improvisation, and Jason(although the greatest substitute) is not his father. So I agree with Robert when he says he wants to keep the past in the past and not play shows just for the money, or because they can.
@jetsamperes5762
@jetsamperes5762 7 лет назад
the other consideration to applaud Plant is this... they were offered an ungodly sum to go back on tour. That would mean large stadiums and even larger ticket prices (face value alone. Scalped prices? Forget about it) no one could afford to go. Instead he turned that down and plays shows to smaller audiences. I saw him with the Sensational Space Shifters play a small outdoor amphitheater in 2015. It was a fantastic show in an intimate setting that didn't cost me a mortgage payment to see. (even offered lawn seating on Groupon for $15). Now THAT is a working class hero.

Yeah, I'm 60 yrs. old and saw them twice, while in High School It was different, I think because of no music video, they held such a mystique. We just listened, shutting down all other senses.Just say'n, yeah, when we finally saw them live, it was quite emotional. search: The Truth Explodes.

Happy B-day Robert, I doubt you ever look at this stuff but if you ever do know that i look at the music news daily on the internet hoping for my dream of seeing a reunion tour with Jimmy JPJ and Jason. When i was 20yrs old in the Army and in Izmir Turkey i picked up the Stars and Stripes and on the front page was the death of Bonzo. At that time In through the outdoor had just came out and i know a tour would have come soon after, my loss. All said and done you are and have been my idol since 1972 from zeppelin to band of joy i wanna thank you for all of your music. If the tour ever happens ill be there and if it dosnt it dosnt. Have a great Birthday and once again Thank you for all youve done for music. John

What a stupendous interview. Plants interviews are always fantastic due to the richness of his experiences and captivating personality, but THIS is one of my all time favorites. Srombo certainly helped create some great moments here due to the chemistry between the two. And oh yea, what an incredible career for this unique musician, arguably Rocks greatest vocalist, but no argument on my part.

Hes one of the best ever in my opinion, not just because he was part of Zeppelin but just his energy, his lyrics, his voice, hes like a magician evoking sounds of the past brought to the present, to me its like Zeppelin were in a league of their own, listening to them raises your consciousness.

They couldn't write lyrics to save their lives. Comparing their lyrics to those of people like Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Dylan, Springsteen, Pete Townshend and Ray Davies shows how weak Zeppelin was in that department. All they wrote about was mystical lands and cosmic energy when they weren't stealing blues songs and claiming them as their own. I mean, c'mon, compare Zeppelin's lyrics to songs like "Eleanor Rigby", "Sympathy for the Devil", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Tangled Up In Blue", "Darkness on the Edge of Town" or "Waterloo Sunset". No comparison.

To the guy who said he can't wait for Zeppelin to lose the Stairway to Heaven case...everyone is welcome to their own opinion, but in my opinion, Stairway and Taurus are hardly a match. My goodness. Listen to Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle -- now that sounds more like Taurus than Stariway. Either way, there has always been sharing and taking and not giving enough credit (or any credit). It isn't right, it isn't wrong. It just is. But one thing is for sure.....Zeppelin is Zeppelin.

That story of Daniel Anwah is 40 plus years old! GS is just trying to give DA a plug! DA is an asshole and an asswipe, as is GS. Black Dog was created out of the storm that arised from DA's visit, uninvited of course, back at the kitchen in 77, even though it was both written and recorded in 1973. DA pissed off Jimmy and so he started playing his guitar until DA ran out the door to get away. THAT is a perfect example of how riffs are created. I dont fully understand some of the things I write. I just write what Jimmy and Bobby tell me to. Its all about the power of lightning. Bobby said that what is 77 to me, may be 1973 for my next door neighbor, and may be 68 for the bully down the street, all living within the very same exact realm in the physical, with mind programmed in a different manner for each.

What a character he is! This man is a rock Icon in my estimation. I admire him, and tha'ts putting it lightly.
