Wow, thanks for this, papasmurfdad! I will add it to my "Jackie" video collection. Would not have seen it if not for you. (I'm not quite sure what to think about Mr. Redford's politics, but he gets an A+++ for launching Jackie's movie career!).
He had a star-studded cast because they wanted to work with Jackie! They're not stupid, they know talent when they see it. That's probably not the reason but I'm proud of her to be able to work with some of the greats. Keep reaching for the stars Jackie! God Bless you.
Now I will have to see the movie after that fine endorsement from RR. She won the lotto, what a comment. Long ago on AGT she won our hearts over so Mr. Redford join the club.
Jackie was the very last part cast, Redford said in other interviews that he had trouble finding the right little girl, because she had to be authentic and believable, as somebody a father would love more than anything and go through anything to help. Jackie played that part perfectly, and saved the movie.
It seem that some comments posted are confusing reality with movies. This film tells a story. It is not making a cause pro or against anything, I believe. Of course some people may think different, but try to look at it as a romance - remember that Redford based the movies on an existing book - and also remember we are commenting about Jackie. For Redford's words about her - wonderful! He was clever and lucky at the same time.
Miss Evancho got the part not because of her Angelic voice but because of her breathtaking beauty. It wasn't Miss Evancho who won the lottery but Robert Redford as a great many who went to see the movie went to see Jacqueline Marie Evancho...
There movie story is good and have lesson, specially to those who are making rally of what they stand for. Not to those radical activities who intend to start trouble and disturb peace. Jackie rule was fascinating,saving family relationship that end in a happy ending. The truth prevail in the end. Have my copy and I m glad he pick Jackie to joined the cast. Hope to see her in Disney animated using her singing voice. Like the latest " frozen " This is a good movie for everyone,young and old.
I saw the movie, and jackie was wonderful. In fact, given the other true comments here about the movie trying to glorify the leftists, and mostly failing, Jackie actually saved this movie from failure. The plotline that gives this movie some real heart is it look at how the terrorists acts impact their innocent friends and family, and jackies performance is the key to that plotline.
They may have been heros to Redford but maybe the millions of dead Cambodians and the murdered Americans might feel different. Perhaps the South Vietnam people who were enslaved might not be to found. All that being said we should never fight a war where our military is so shackled.
What's most despicable underneath the surface about Robert Redford's values are revealed. The Weather Underground's bombs killed a policeman, the father of four little ones. Redford's response: "Sometimes a movement has to be a little extreme." Sorry, I'm not a fan.
