Robert Sullivan, formerly appointed as assistant principle and principle trumpet for many of the top orchestras in the country, performed the traditional Danny Boy with the Atlantic Brass Band at the 2014 National Trumpet Competition at Messiah College, Mechanicsburg, PA., on Saturday, March 22, 2014. my great uncle was the composer of the US Navy band, he played this song on trumpet as they lowered my grandmother to rest

I play this song in the Blue Mountains of Oregon in a place called "Looking Glass." The sound of Danny Boy echoing in the Mt. canyons will bring a flood of tears to your eyes.

I've heard Robert Sullivan play live in his church in Nyack, NY. His warmth of sound and fullness of articulation are tremendous.

This is arranged for trumpet solo and band by Rafael Mendez himself. Excellent job here. Try to get your hands on the version by Tom Hernandez. It is second to none

Is it just me, or is the conductors timing incredibly irregular and hard to follow? Great performance still!

It's called rubato. There's no way to conduct in tempo.

Super late comment, I know, but still. A lot of the conductors have their downbeat at the top of the upswing, so as to be clearly by the whole ensemble.
