Wow! This is truly rare footage. Two great legends, Donny seemed so happy when he was performing. It's still hard to imagine that he was suffering inside. By far one of the greatest voices in music.
Roberta Flack is celebrating her 85th birthday today, February 10, 2022. She was born in North Carolina on Feb,10, 1937. She is an American singer known for her No. 1 singles "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", "Killing Me Softly with His Song", "Feel Like Makin' Love"; and "Where Is the Love" and "The Closer I Get to You", two of her many duets with Donny Hathaway. Flack is also noted for her influence on the subgenre of contemporary R&B called quiet storm, along with her interpretations of songs by various songwriters, such as Leonard Cohen and members of The Beatles. Flack was the first artist to win the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in two consecutive years: "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" won in 1973 and "Killing Me Softly with His Song" won in 1974. Only U2 and Billie Eilish have repeated this feat.
I want to Thank You so Very Much ,Family for not only presenting THIS RARE Classic, but also Preserving Donnie's Legacy for FUTURE generations. You should receive an Award for this.
This is a dream come true getting to see Donny Hathaway performing live. How bittersweet it is that his only solo song in this video is "The Ghetto," which is primarily instrumental. But thank you so much for posting this!!!!!!!
damm awesome rare 1972 live concert from roberta flack and donny hathaway. this is amazing legend randb singers both of them with great voices. and shame donny died so young.
This is a beautiful song by the classical sound of Donny Hathaway. It needs to be played 24/7 on every device far and near. So it can soak in hearts and minds again. Thank You posting this music for us!!
What a rare treat! Although I never cared for their version of Aretha's "Baby I Love You" which opens this set, the other numbers of this concert are well worth the effort you made in pulling this out the woodwork and presenting this to us! Roberta's "Somewhere" at 4:17 Is simply remarkable, followed by "The First Time I Saw Your Face" at 8:26, then Donny Hathaway's very innovative take on his classic "The Ghetto" at 13:05 and the finale, Roberta's first release "Rev. Lee" at 17:19, though I would have liked to have seen them do more together, (especially "You've Got A Friend"). This should have been released on both CD and DVD. I wonder what other treasures has been kept under lock and key? Thanks for posting this!
Thank You!!! So much for sharing this. I LOVE thei duet album and never saw them singing those great songs! This made my night. Thank You so much! ❤️😎 Donny sounds so good with Roberta!
Dang! I forget how mesmerizing Roberta Flack’s voice was. Both she and Donny were generous in giving each other the space to express their gift. Together they were magical. The 70’s - my 20’s and growing up yrs. They don’t make music like that anymore. Nowadays it’s a lot of copying and crap.
I am German a white guy, but coloured people was never something i was thinking about. I don´t care about scin colour, religions, passports...someday we´re all be free, we all are brothers and sisters from the beginning until now
