"Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent." That is a reference to Kevin Costner in Prince of Thieves. From IMDB : Rumor has it that Kevin Costner wanted to use an English accent, but Kevin Reynolds didn't want him to. Supposedly, Costner would affect the accent when he was arguing with Reynolds, but not when they were in agreement. Costner claims that he was initially asked to use an accent and hired a dialect coach, but this was stopped (and the coach was fired) when he did it poorly.
great! if you've never seen the princess bride, you HAVE to react to it.. if you think cary elwes is handsome in this movie, wait till you see him in that lol. (also Princess Bride is a fantastic movie and you are 100% sure to love it)
@@houseofmash5748 hi. i have a few seggestions for new reaction films: fidler on the roof, independence day or mississippi burning, unless you've already seen them
I love it. "King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is. I mean, don't you know it is illegal to kill a wild pig in the king's forest?" Cracks me up every time.
37:15 Yes, that is a mint, but it gets better. That is a mint from an American company that called its product, 'Life Savers'. The shape was supposed to resemble those donut floats you throw to someone who falls out of a boat.
Just in case somebody hasn't writen it down yet: The screaming child with the "I have to go home alone" line is a reference to the poster/cover of the first Home Alone movie.
I'd love to see a Blazing Saddles reaction, it's easily the greatest western comedy about racism you'll ever see. It may be the only one but that's because they nailed it the 1st time
Cary Elwes was supposed to play Robin Hood in Prince of Thieves but he turned it down. He previously appeared as the antagonist character in Hot Shots!, a spoof on Top Gun directed by Jim Abrahams, one of the writers of Airplane! and The Naked Gun.
one of the main things with this is it came out not long after the robin hood: prince of thieves movie which is what a lot of the digs in this are about.
The reason the story starts in Jerusalem is Robin Hood was fighting with Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade who fought against sultan Saladin, this is the 20th-century addition to the Robin Hood legend. Adding a Saracen to the Merry men was first done in my favourite adaptation in the 1984 ITV Robin of Sherwood with a trend that began with Nasir. Asneeze or Ahchoo continues this tradition . ...I enjoyed watching your reaction
A movie like this could never be made today and that's such ashame this movie is pure gold i love it. Great video btw keep it up👍 and i loved your reaction to this.
I'd love for someone to react to Dracula Dead and Loving It. Not the classic Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles was, but I think its Mel Brooks' most under appreciated film and I've always had a soft spot for it.
Fun watching, even the abbreviated version, this great movie with someone else who enjoys Mel Brooks humor. This movie has one of my favorite lines of all time... Blinken: I can see!!! *runs into tree* Nope! I was wrong!
Cary is also in The Princess Bride, if you have never seen it. Awesome movie! He has a sword fight in that movie, as well...and it is so much better that this one!
You are amazing as always. Your smile and your laughings make me so happy. Another great reaction 😂😂. Waiting for blazing saddles and young Frankenstein now :)))) Ps: when Mel Brooks said: "it is good to be the king", it is a quote from his older movie "History of the world"...you should aee also that 😂😂😂
Oh you're from England? I knew there is a reason why i love your accent. ^^ I used to life in East-Sussex. Spaceballs is probably of your list already :>
Fun to watch. Good job. Yes, I would love to see more Mel Brooks reactions. It must have been so much fun to act in one of his movies. Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are his best. 31:22 Patriot missiles were a more common term during the 90's Gulf War years. They are a missile defense system to protect against incoming missiles. 32:56 Bwahaha, just noticed this: The Hangman is played by Robert Ridgely, who also played The Hangman in Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles 19 years earlier in 1974. One difference, his eye patch was on his left eye, rather than his right eye this time (brilliant).
Another good medieval comedy is The Court Jester. It's a much older movie, but it's pretty funny. Not to mention, proof that Angela Lansbury was quite attractive in her day.
Fun fact: Matthew Poretta (Will Scarlet O'Hara) would later go on to work with Remedy Entertainment by portraying the characters of Alan Wake and Dr. Casper Darling (Alan Wake and Control, respectively).
Actually this is a spoof of another Robin Hood movie made around the same time called Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves made by Warner Bros. You should check it out sometime if you haven't seen it either 😎
"Fox 'em" parody of *"Fax 'em"* - faxes were rather more of a thing in '93. While it's held up well, several jokes are now too period specific. A lot of the movie is a parody of Kevin Costner's Robin Hood movie, a couple of years before. Patrick Stewart as King Richard: They originally wanted Sean Connery, but he declined. So they got Patrick Stewart...who then proceeded to play it *like* Sean Connery. And, yes, you do need to watch Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein, and...
11:00 - It's a 90's pop culture reference. This movie came out after Home Alone (1990) and it was a nod to Macauley Culkin's signature running and screaming in the movie. 37:18 - It's not just a mint...it's a Livesavers mint.
Yes for blazing saddles!! You’ll never be the same after it! An amazing movie that could never been made again. Please watch it. It’s like Airplane, nothing was the same afterwards
Always great to see you Ash! My favorite Mel Brooks is Young Frankenstein. But as others have mentioned here if you haven't seen Princess Bride or Blazing Saddles you should check them out
37:24 or so , It's a mint, and there's a specific type in America that are called 'Lifesavers' (similar to a larger polo mint :P ) . Wasn't til a /long/ time after first watching this I found out about them and got the reference xD
First time watching your channel of reactions and I am very pleased with your rendition. This is probably the fifth reaction to Robin Hood: Men in Tights I've seen and it was by far the best because you let portions of the movie run through the jokes while others would edit them out. You did have some edits that did stop some jokes but again you did better than most. I understand the copyright length, but some people don't use the full amount of time to show. I look forward to your future and past reactions.
I know this a comedy version of Robin Hood which I still like this movie because it's hilarious and funny but I have one issue about the version of Maid Marian wearing a iron belt. I mean how on earth Maid Marian manage to have a toilet with that belt on and while still locked.
This film is a direct parody of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner. I'm sorry if I missed it in this reaction, but if you haven't already seen that movie, you really need to. This film has a TON of references and jokes that relate directly to RH:PoT.
To me 1993 seems comparatively recent but that's from the perspective of being 53 years old myself. To me, the movies that seem old are like say, the original Robin Hood with Errol Flynn and Olivia DeHaviland from 1939 or Frankenstein, Dracula, etc from 1931. Not that I don't love them, I do. The age of a film really has no meaning to me as the movies I like just seem "timeless". I'd like to see your reaction to Dracula: Dead And Lovig It! Your voice sounded so familiar to me and it dawned on me why. Have you ever seen the Mummy with Brendan Fraser? Your voice sounds like Rachel Weisz's character "Evelyn Carnahan" from that film. I think I could listen to your reactions all day, lol.
If you liked Mark Blankfield, the actor who played Blinken here, he also plays a small role in Dracula: Dead and Loving It and he stars in an early 1980s comedic take on Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde called "Jeckyll and Hyde: Together Again" (though that one has a lot of jokes in it that would be considered dark today)
Oh no! You cut out my favorite line: Did you say Abe Lincoln? 😂 Also can you react to See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) It stars Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder (aka Willy Wonka). - A blind man and a deaf man must team up to solve a crime Also Three Amigos (1986) starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase & Martin Short - Three pampered Hollywood action stars must protect a Mexican village from real bandits
Hi new subscriber here and it's great to find a fellow Brit who reacts I've not found many on here, anyway really enjoyed this reaction saw this film when it first came out very funny film, if you didn't know Cary Elwes who played Robin is English which is why his accent was so good, anyway as for film recommendations it depends what you want to watch do you want Sci-Fi horror films like ones from the Alien or Predator franchise or just Sci-Fi films like Star Wars original trilogy and original Star Trek films, or maybe a psychological thriller like Silence of the Lambs or stick with comedies like the Naked Gun films, but it's your channel and your choice.
If you like funny Robin Hood adaptations, you need to go see the play "Marian, or the True Tale of Robin Hood" if you get the chance. It's absolutely hilarious (Robin Hood and Lady Marian are the same person. Need I say more?).
If you think this is the only funny version os the Robin Hood legend then you haven't seen Kevin Costner play the role with an American accent. He didn't even try to do an English accent. the whole movie was a response to Costner's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves".
Movie recommendation: Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise," Mel Brook's "Young Frankenstein." Music video recommendation: "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers. It's only performed by one of them, Bobby Hatfield. Watch the 1965 live performance, you will not be disappointed.
