First time I saw this is twelve years ago.. I was very much emotionally touched by this video at that time in my life. It was the most sweet and emotional encounter, between two gypsy jazz artists that I had ever seen.. Today it still is... without any doubt.. one of the most beautiful songs and certainly the most touching gypsy jazz video that I have ever seen..
Jimmy's expression is monumental ... indeed. A very few guitarists of all time had the same gift, the rest of us are struggling to reproduce bits and pieces, but that's about it.
I loved that "behind-the-bridge" bend Robin did. I've seen the "behind-the-nut" bends. But this is onoy possible on some guitars. Cool little technique/flair.
4 Thumbs pointing down on this rating....?...?...? Probably would rather hear some rock star that knows 2 chords and plays much louder..! Or they could be deaf!
"Let's keep this one" is right, this is a great youtube post, an informal improvisation, like being in the living room with two of the premier musicians of our day. thanks!
Fab, you’re so young in this vid and you make such a beautiful rendition together. I’ve never heard it played so totally free. .. thnx Rob, thnx Jimmy…
I'm trying to write a line similar to what Jimmy plays in 02:43, over the A# dim chord... anyone recognizes from where it could came from? Thanks so much! (Amazing video!)
They both are fantastic players, just different...I love Robin & Jimmy...and Biréli, Angelo, Stochelo, Joscho, John Jorgensen, Gonzalo, Stéphane & many more...and Django naturellement...
this is most beautiful counterpoint solo have heard to Jimmys playing. Being a massive JR fan, one sees a lot of the top players and there are some incredible players out there but is there any as tasteful as Robin Nolan?..very inspiring track
Just to sit down and play with Jimmy Rosenberg or Joscho Stephan earns alot of respect (as Robin has done), but Jimmy Rosenberg is in a class all his own (with all due respect).
Its the fire in Jimmy's playing, its unique and the improvisation, learning by ear is also a great creative boost to improv, i cant do theory to this day, head gets in way. The balance of the 2 styles is wonderful, one could tell it is Jimmy or Robin playing a mile of. I love Joscho and its part of the fusion of this wonderful guitar that's happening but no one does it like a Gypsy blood, there are many heady players and not enough soul players of this guitar
This one blew me away when I saw it last year and then it was removed.. Thank you thank you for putting it up again.. stunning virtuosity from both players - different yet completely complimentary playing - Beautiful.
+helloiamaman An opportunity missed for all of us, I suppose we have to be grateful for what he did manage to give so bitter sweet but not uncommon among great musicians.
Incredibile arte d'improvvisare. Tocco e musica gitani con toni classicheggianti. Nel finale un omaggio alla tradizione spagnola della chitarra. Fantastici
Two of the best - the best two in the world in my humble opinion - WHY? Because Django Reinhardt guitar playing is technically very difficult and there are some fantastic players out there from all around the world but these two guys just have the edge in their relaxwd tey dominant expression. Robin I have been trying to get in touch with you to ask you if I could use "Senor Bob" on my website?
@wallavious There are so many players to listen to. The genre is referred to as 'gypsy jazz' or 'jazz manouche' and it's basically Django Reinhardt's music (or in that style) that people are playing. So, the players to check out: Django Reinhardt, Rosenberg Trio (Stochelo Rosenberg), Bireli Lagrene, Angelo Debarre, Jimmy Rosenberg, Tchavolo Schmitt, Dorado Schmitt, Fapy Lafertin, etc. There are too many for me to mention here.
Cool! gisteren de docu nog maar eens bekeken, Jimmy had groter kunnen worden dan Django. Ik ben een popgitarist, maar wel enorm fan van deze muziekstijl en heb grote bewondering voor het buitengewone talent van Jimmy
speachless...... a god gifted man, and he knows! It's so hard to be that gifted and to live in the "normal world" May God help him.... Bless you Jimmy! And thanks for your music.
tasteful jimmy r rhythm here. Robin good effort but it's effort sorry nice though. Jimmy takes it out to another whole level real quick. Typical Rosenbreg style down played relaxed but artistically over the top just great here.
Great sound Robin, could you please describe your guitare/Mic/amp I've got a Dell'Arte DG-RN1 but does not sound like your's .....sure I don't play like you !!
