Great episode and reaction. Ref real Chainmail in water/can you get out, I guess if you ever try it (whilst wearing it) I would assume it's best (safest) to use a shallow pool in case you can't sit or stand up so you don't drown, as as you pointed out/implied might happen to real soldiers as you couldn't take it off in a hurry. Apart from that it's a great episode and series and very well done. Another good analogue TV series not the same but kind of similar in style is 'By The Sword Divided' (1983) set during the English Civil War ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XMwvB2g6tZE.html have fun.

Sorry this was spoiled for you. I guess it's not a spoiler to tell you that Michael Praed landed a role in the US TV series soap opera "Dynasty".

Hello again Alexa im so glad that you enjoyed the moving ending to "Robin Of Sherwood" Series 2 even though it had been spoiled for you in advance i do wish people wouldnt do this. Back in 1984 it was revealed in the Press that the reason why Michael Praid left the series was because he had been offered a lucrative contract in the American Soap "Dynasty". However last month i discovered another reason online which contradicts this story. If true he apparently left the series because he had been offered the role of d,Artagnan in a tour of "The Three Musketeers " Musical starting in the West End of London at the time?

I distinctly remember being confused when I first watched this series long ago. I had somehow missed this particular episode and then when I tuned in again and Michael Praed was gone... so baffling! I was going to say something about Praed's departure but I'll let you research that Alexa. I will agree that Praed isn't the best Robin Hood although I'll say he's better than Kevin Costner. Yeah, Nasir is a cool character and it's cool that he's getting more dialogue. But by chance if you're interested in more of what Praed did, there's a really cool sci-fi flick he did called Nightflyers. If you haven't seen that I'd love to see you react to it.

I would think water would not weigh chain mail down much once it is allowed to drain, but it would beforehand. Exit the water slowly and it might be easier. You can ask a professional (or anyone that owns such armor) about that and how to care for wet armor. I know you should not wait long or rust will be a problem rather quickly.
@jimspetdragons3737
@jimspetdragons3737 29 дней назад
Also, that was only for the chain mail. The other pieces of armor might add additional weight when they get wet (obviously) like, padding, gambeson, & clothing, among other items.

Terrific reaction to a tragic, wonderfully written and performed RoS episode. I'm a biker, a trucker, former hell raiser but shed tears with you as Marion comforted Much. Many fans are split on Season Three but I love it because the other characters are still there. Clannad added some more majestic music and the magic is still there, underpinning this wonderful series. I love that Nasir is your favourite character. I think he's in most fans' top three! May Herne protect us!

It's strange that when the Sheriff is threatened he gives his all in hunting down Robin. The Assassin's , like the Knights Templar, & the Viking berserkers, the Samurai, were the SAS or Green Beret of their day. I was thinking of the interview with Mrs Ingalls from Little House On The Prairie on YT, yesterday. Like her I still have a problem remembering all the Cartwright's names. Hoss, Ben? Which one was Michael Landen & Lorne Green?🤔'🤠 I wanted to type something but it reveals too much.👽

Alexa, with respect to the mail the soldiers were wearing, in the show they didn't actually use mail at all. It was, if I recall correctly, wool that was dyed to look metallic.

Many years ago I was able to visit a place called Masyaf in Syria which was said to be one of the castles of the Assassins. Very interesting to go there as there were no other tourists, but not as grim as its reputation might suggest. I was talking to a local guy while I was waiting for the bus and he was very keen to tell me the name of the Assassins had nothing to do with hashish. I noticed the Arthurian allusions in the episode as well. In all honestly, Michael Praed was not my favourite Robin, so it will be interesting to see how you react to the series going forward.

09.50 Michaels Robin meets his end at Draycott Sleights, just up Cheddar gorge from Black Rock (Uffcombe in Swords of Wayland). Its located just below Mendip Gliding Club on the side of the limestone escarpment overlooking the village of Draycott. Its a field with lots of those rock outcrops, not sure which one is featured, but probably could find it. There's a tiny parking area where the road meets the West Country Way footpath. A short walk through the nature reserve and a steep climb to the top gets you stunning views over the Somerset levels & Glastonbury Tor is in the distance. You're high up, on the escarpment edge. Google Earth street view has one of those blue dots you can land on but its not as good as on top. An emotional reaction there Alexa, exactly as we all felt when Praed bowed out.

The arrow gags are done with folded arrows hidden in the extras' clothes: when they throw their arms back, the arrow pops up. Love the reaction, even if bellends spoiled it for you. A great bit of telly. The oddest thing watching is your use of the word 'creek': a very rarely used word in Britain (we have dozens of words for this: stream, brook, burn, beck, etc) and it's strange how very new world it sounds alongside the medieval RoS. Isn't English brilliant in all its forms? I beg you not to watch S3 in broadcast order :)

Yes a double tragedy, a spoiler 🥲😡 and the death of Robin. At the time of first broadcast I don't think it was known and was quite shocking and surprising that there would be more episodes after seeing this ending. Interesting that your fav character is Nasir mine probably Will then and Marion now. As for how they reproduced arrow hits pre cgi I don't think I'd like to know if they actually fired at the extras ouch 😊 I also have ideas about rusty chain mail but I no expert perhaps completely dry in sun and wind and use WD40 to remove hidden water then emersion sort of oil to lubrication and block the oxygen that cause oxidation of the metal but most importantly make sure you have some people to help you with your stunt experiment in case you get into difficulties in water also someone to film it it sounds like a fun watch.😅

This episode is so well done. And isn't it so beautifully lit? Looking forward to your reviews going forward x You're right. This is a solid version of Robin Hood. That's why it's retained a loyal fan base for over 40 years. The more recent BBC version? Meh. Watching it at the time, i thought... ' This will not endure.' And it hasn't. With Robin of Sherwood? Nothig's forgotten. Nothing is ever forgotten... And that includes Season 3 x

I am so sorry that somebody spoiled the end of the season for you. But some of your guesses about what else was in the episode were amazing 🤯. You have just seen what I believe to be one of the best season finales (back when season finales were not really a thing) and best hours of television ever made. You are right. The actor Michael Praed left the series very late in Season 2. He had an offer to perform on Broadway which was his dream, and he took the chance. This episode was written at short notice by series creator Kip Carpenter and no other character before or since has had such a beautiful send off. The fact that it can still move you to tears almost 40 years later is testament to that. The third season is twice as long which meant bringing in other writers. Episodes were also broadcast out of order, which makes the season something of a bumpy ride. I have favourite episodes - and not so favourite ones. I believe knights had their squires clean their chain mail in barrels of sand. I am not sure how stunts with arrows were shot in this series. You can see some obvious padding in some scenes and according to the commentaries on the DVDs (these are excellent to listen to if you get the chance) there were some tricks used, but even with padding I think loosing arrows at random extras sounds very dangerous. Catch you next week. Nothing's forgotten. 🏹

When my marriage failed I tried using Robin's lines to the wife I loved so much, specifically about time running out and never being able to say everything I wanted to apart from having loved her from the first moment I saw her and every moment since. It didn't work. She broke my heart and left me for another man. Watching everyone die in Blake's Seven was bad enough. Watching Robin die and the tributes at the lake was even worse. You're going to love what happens next in Season Three!

A pity some idiots had to spoil this for you, but I am glad to see you were still drawn into the episode so much and were so affected by it emotionally. I always find it a tough watch, but the acting is superb from all involved and Robin could not have had a better, more heroic exit. The mystery over the identity of the new hooded man also makes for a nice cliffhanger. Michael Praed left because he had been offered the role of D'Artagnan in a Broadway musical production of The Three Musketeers. I don't think he particularly wanted to leave, but the offer was too good to turn down; unfortunately, The Three Musketeers flopped, though Praed landed a role in Dynasty soon afterwards. As I understand it, Nasir was meant to be the original focus of the episode, but the script had to be rewritten quite late on after Praed announced he was off - the Nasir sub-plot is therefore a fragment of what was originally intended for the episode.

I wish people didn't spoil it. Now, I know you have watched a little ahead of this so you know a bit more what is going on next. I like how they found a way to deal with the changeover using actual "historical" Robin Hood studies , showing that various people speculated as being Robin, were and it was not just one man making the legend.
