@@patjones4250What she meant was, if you haven't actually heard the radio show or comments yourself you can't speak on exactly what was said, or how it was said. She didn't mean you don't have the right to speak.
The show was taped in Linda’s home state. Yet the crowd booed Linda for a reason. She’s just another arrogant typical celeb who throws out insults but can’t take them
Linda was correct. Stern's comments about Selena's death and her fans were racist and distasteful. Robin Quivers was a rude bully towards Linda Ronstadt by talking over her and being condescending. Stern's later comments about Linda were misogynistic. In today's world, he would be fired - and I would be glad about it.
"Moral compass" is one of the stupider combination of words found within the English language. It is used by those who think everything runs through them, and to a certain extent there are things which run through these people namely; breakfast, lunch and dinner, and if they are lucky a late night snack.
I like the fact that Jay acknowledged Linda’s concern and allowed her not only to express it...he hushed the crowd so she could be heard and then commended her for standing her ground. I’m not a big Leno fan but that gesture scored points with me.
@@tomiole1532 - I liked Jimmy Fallon's late night show, and had high hopes for when he took over; because he can sing and do skits and stuff. But as soon as he started, I saw that the corporate Money-Go-Round had rammed ugly politics into the picture, and Jimmy sucked up to it. It looked bad and felt fake. The message that the new Tonight Show gave us was that Sarah Palin wasn't all THAT bad; and so now look at what's going on - the powers that be are setting women's rights and causes back severely, by allowing that female Nazi from Georgia to attrack attention in Congress, and obstruck progress as much as her "mentors" tell her to. And when was the last time you heard anyone talk about the Tonight Show?
@@DavidSmith-ss1cg Jimmy🐣 always did come across as a suck-up to me! But when Johnny hosted not only was it entertaining and unpredictable! Doc Severinson 🎺and the tonight show band was high 🎶class, (especially favorite drummer Ed Shaunessy)with some incredible 🎖musicians!!! Even Jay 🎭with Kevin🎸, though he was low key ( loved the drummer Smitty)was a great band!!! But Jimmy's band, to me is the same old same old!!!(hey, hey, hey, hey! Hey, hey, hey, hey) no disrespect intended!!!🎶🎷📯Actually, I vaguely remember the original show hosted by Jack Parr!!! Maybe Steve Allen too! Yeah! I'm older than dirt!!! Thanks for the response!👍
He did a good job here, he diffused the situation and commended both people. That's what a great host/person does - tried his best to allow both guests to remain feeling good and keep a positive energy in the room,
Had always been a huge fan of Howard Stern for years until his interview with Fran Drescher. He talked to her about being raped and couldn't have been anymore disrespectful and low class, absolutely horrible how he treated her. During the interview you could see her visibly become extremely upset and really quiet. You could tell she looked like she was being tortured by his words. Lost all respect for him that day, he went way over the line. You don't treat a victim of rape as a comedy bit, no integrity whatsoever
He did a similar thing to comedian Robin Williams. Later he regretted doing it but it was too late to make amends with him. That’s that problem with Stern. Too crass.
I started listening to HS when he and Don Imus were on ABC, I'm guessing that was in the early 80s then continued to listen until I found him redundant, full of himself, and boring. (Mid to late nineties, so about 15 years) As a kid I remember my mom singing along with Linda Ronstadt and I still love hearing her to this day (about 50 years)....Too bad HS is a role model and Linda gets booed.
I first heard him when he was in D.C. He was an insufferable azzhole. He was really rude to callers. He told a young woman to kill herself when she revealed that she was depressed. Funny stuff, right?
She was a sellout. Stern's show was just shock value, lowest common denominator, trash, and he knew it. People cast their morals aside to make money all the time, so I guess it's a personal choice, but Stern and company had no right to expect that people would respect them for it. He knew the show was trash, and he did it for the money, he never had any shame about it, and neither did the people that worked for him.
I find it funny how Stern has taken the moral high ground over the past several years, yet he made an entire career out of being sexist, bigoted and homophobic.
I'll betcha more people hear Linda daily and eternally than the "entertainment" that these ghouls have spewed. I think Robin and Howard are funny but I grew up in the Bronx and L.I. and knew about 200 Howard Sterns as a matter of course. A middle aged complaining Jewish dude? Hardly an original organism. Linda delivered some truth here.
Which makes her stuck up and boring lol if she or you don’t like it then don’t listen. Or listen to Howard’s current show, I’m sure it’s tame enough for you now
@@VashTheStampFiend Linda stuck up and boring??!? My god son, how young and stupid are you??? You can listen to his "humor", on Sirius, but please don't perpetuate what he now himself notes as "often sick" stereotypes for crass humourless abuse. Robin was token black woman, who lived off the controversy ducking any insight and contributing a mostly "nervous laugh" to the often disgusting (yeah that's right) proceedings. Linda is strong woman who speaks truth, maybe Robin should try to catch up.
What I think is sadder than Howard Stern being on the radio is that he had a huge audience that kept him there. I listened once to hear what all the hype was about. All I heard were insults and "show me your tits" for 15 minutes to 1/2 hour. I remember thinking to myself how stupid it was and how sad it was that there was a huge audience for this garbage.
Absolutely correct. I could not for the life of me understand his popularity until I realized how many children/teens/childish adults must be tuning in. I think he had more Playmates/loose women/porn stars on his show than any other type of guest. How else would he get teenage boys to tune in every day? I don't think anyone with any real talent or stature appeared on his show, with a few exceptions.
I tried really hard to understand it myself by listening often while trying hard to understand the audience infatuation. Once I heard Howard making light of Robin’s sexual abuse while she laughed along, I couldn’t listen any more. On the other hand, I laughed a ton at other skits, but that one crossed the line for me.
Wow. I'll bet Jay never saw that coming. Kudos to Linda for having the chutzpah to address her grievance face to face and stand up for her principles publicly.💪❤️
Unfortunately when it comes to politics AND truth both of these wealthy yet averaged @ the very best intellects AND further worse in lack of knowledge in subjects they have strong opinions oft stated as facts but weak in truth typical leftists know it all's
I'm blown away at the things Robin said because it's 2022 and says the opposite things now. Except for her paycheck. She still protects and defends that.
Connecting with Howard Stern was the Best thing that ever happened to Robin. It made her a very wealthy woman, which she probably would not be otherwise. Of course she is going to defend Stern, who I am no fan of.
Lots of celebs change their public views to be "wok" popular or whatever. Dr. Phil had a father on his show who was trans. Dr. Phil talked to her horribly. Called her selfish and said he (refused to say she) cared more about their own feelings and wants than about the needs of the wife and children. Told her if she wanted a relationship with her kids to dress like their father and stop wearing makeup.. You won't see that show on reruns because they all try to hide stuff like that.
she and stern are both sell outs. They became rich and famous by saying horrible things about people. Now that its politically incorrect, they bash what they used to stand for.
Robin and Howard are disgusting filth.Little wonder his wife ditched him and Robin was forced to hang onto his coattail. We outta launch them toward the Sun on Musk aircraft !!!
Why shame on Robin? Linda is a singer. A very good one, yes but a singer none the less. She's not a doctor or scientist. Both Robin and Linda are in the entertainment business. So your comment doesn't make a sense. You can like one more than the other, but ....
I would never call myself a Italian American, that's racist. I'm an American, and I choose to be only the best. Robin's a republican, she ain't going to take no liberal bullshit.
Good for Rhondstat. Quivers acted defensive instead of taking the constructive criticism at face value & just say that she understands her feelings & end it. Stern's show was gutter talk. Yes, we have freedom of speech & expression, but I would hope that human beings would want to raise things up than walk through sewage.
Robin had a right to stand up for herself and her show. This is a woman thar beat cancer and served in the US air force. She's not gonna just sit there and take that.
Pat Cooper says he hasn't changed, and he hired ppl to help him learn how to communicate and bring forth a brand new image. I have the feeling the man is a narcissist, and much more unpleasant behind closed doors.
Ronstadt's was upsep because just a few days after Tejano singer Selena was shot to death, Stern was playing her songs on his show with gunshots sounding off over the track and mocking her mourners - considering her whole family and crew in mourning and shock and over 60,000 fans coming to grieve for her, you can understand why anyone would take some offense. I'm not easily offended and have found Stern pretty humorous on occasion, but doing that with Selena's songs hot on the heels of her murder...just no words.
+Espiritu29 I cannot agree. That sounds pretty funny to me. Maybe I'm sick in the head? I loved the Stern v. Selena stuff because I'm from Texas and you could not get away from the news coverage, yet no one, and I mean no one, knew who the hell she was. We were all baffled. Maybe it's because I'm from North and not South Texas but all anyone I knew ever said was, "who"?
65,000 people showed up to her last concert in Houston the month before her murder, that doesn't happen when nobody knows who you are.I don't care who it is,mocking a persons fans and music right as she's getting set to be buried is sick.
Espiritu29 if you listen to Stern and you never get offended. Then I think there might be something wrong with you. I happen to love the Stern show, I've been listening since the late 90s. I've been offended by his shtick a few times. It's ok to get offended, and should be ok to be offensive. It's his profession to push things to their limit. It's sterns civic duty if you ask me. If I said half the things Stern has said. I would be fired from my job, and that's ok. It's not ok for me to offend people. It would be unprofessional. We live in a censored society that's not quite as free as some pretend it to be.
I’m being serious. Do you actually genuinely believe talk show audiences are genuine??? They are told when to laugh and when to be angry. They don’t do this on their own. How foolish of you lmaoooo I mean really?
Geez that's a pretty mean thing to say about Linda. So what if it looks like she gained about thirty-odd pounds since her halcyon " Your No Good/ Allison ” cub scout uni wearing concert days ?
@@maryjones0147 Oops! I thought you were mocking the 2nd chin and jowly cheeks Ms. Rondstadt had when expressing the offense she took to Howard Stern. It's his fault if you think about it. @@darnellmajor8895then ya obviously don’t know jack shit about Linda Ronstadt. Do some research before you talk out of your ass; Linda ronstadt has fought for the uplift of Mexican artists and singers. She produced two Mariachi albums. She goes to Mexico yearly and has built schools there. So yes she would “try to take up for Mexicans and Hispanics” because she is so herself.
Sadly, what led up to their argument is not, in fact, shown in this clip. The fact is that just 3 days after 23-yr-old groundbreaking Mexican-American idol and breakthrough singer **Selena** was shot and killed, Stern and Givers covered it on his show in the most ignorant, bigoted, soulless, and cruel way. And in this interview here, Givers unequivocally defended Stern, who, in the course of a 9-minute radio rant about the singer and "Spanish" music in general, had gone so far as to play Selena's songs **with gunshot sound effects** in the background. A disorderly conduct arrest warrant was even issued for Stern (though he was never charged). As a proud Mexican-American herself, Linda Ronstadt was rightly offended, and I applaud her bravery to go against the tide of the pro-Stern audience.
Thank you for the backstory. Never cared for Stern, when 9/11 happened they were live on the air and making jokes about the plane crash. Than they changed their tune after the 2nd plane.
@UCSUH1vKbI8CZPfuIzM2TyAw She kinda was Mexican American at birth you moron. Probably one of the most talented, with an overdose of perfectionism, performer of all time, who explored and shared so much beautiful music. @@davidhendrickson8378 Amazing that you can make that comment, considering the 1000's of times what an Ass Howard made of himself, or the 19,000 times he was disgustingly petty. In talent, class contest, Linda to s winner walking away. She speaks her mind, not a petty bone in her body.
I agree with Linda. Notice how Robin goes off on a bunch of tangents which don't directly answer what Linda said about Howard being himself rather than a 'character' which Robin is so desperately defending. Linda doesn't compromise & says what she believes. I respect that.

I've noticed that when you're right, the opposing side will interrupt, shout over your statement, talk over you to keep your view from being heard. RQ did all of that in spades.
Linda was right that she didn't happen to like Stern and was offended by his show, but Robin was certainly right that she didn't have to listen to it either. When you are being publicly attacked, then you have a right to defend yourself and your position.
There is a difference between supporting 1st amendment speech and condoning it. Our entertainment has quickly raced to the bottom of the barrel. Good for Linda Ronstadt.
Howard Stern has mellowed out since then. Linda is well respected artist. I’m glad she’s spoke up. She’s beautiful, smart and doesn’t take nonsense from no one. And has a killer voice. She now has Parkinson’s poor Linda. She’s loved all around the world.

She also believes all the fake news stories going on today. I have nothing but respect for Linda Ronstadt. A true great singer with one of the best female voices of our time.

I had a boyfriend I was really in love with. He came from another country and was immune to a lot of views and stereotypes on woman. He became obsessed with Howard Stern, thought he was the greatest and I watched my sweet, kind lovable boy turn into a total jerk and a-hole. It's as if HS gave him the perspective he should have on treating woman in America. I lost that relationship and sometimes wonder if HS was too blame. I realize that I can't blame a celebrity on the loss of my relationship, but I watched him change sooo much by listening to HS every day (He even recorded it, so he wouldn't miss a single show.) I listened to find out what he all about & admit he was sometimes funny, but so derogatory like that was a good thing and the way to go. There has been a whole degrading down of woman in the past 20-30 years. I hope we can return to a time when people are authentic, pure and heart centered. The other thing is how woman dress, their image is many times raunchy not sexy. HS is all part of the raunchy movement if you ask me!!
Linda is one of the greatest singers of any genre to have ever lived. Robin sits in a glass booth and parrots Stern. She should have just said, "I'm sorry I offended you." Robin is just so utterly pointless.
So Linda came out, called Robin on her bs, and cleared the air - in case there could could possibly be any doubt - that Howard Stern is nobody’s ally in the simplest terms possible. That is an art.
Y should Robin apologize... like she said there r Other stations...she decided to listen to the show.... emerald wood archives....fuck out here..fuck Linda & her singing
“If you have a problem with it then you can’t comment on it.” She is saying that if you don’t like something then say nothing, in other words they don’t like criticism and only want praise about what they do and you can’t say how you really feel?
Are you really that dumb? Robin said that Linda doesn’t listen to the show, but instead gets her opinions from other news outlets. She said if you don’t listen to the show (source) then you shouldn’t comment on it
What a clever clog you are. But it doesn't really matter that Linda is the more accomplished of the two (though Robin has done just fine), or that Ronstadt was a washed up fatty by the time of this incident while the Stern show was at the height of its popularity (by 1995 people cared more about Howard and Robin than Linda Ronstadt, as shown by the audience reaction and whose side they were clearly on). Is any of that relevant to the dispute? So go on about Robin. If I had a dollar for every time she cackled you and I would still have a lot less money in the bank than she does.
If Howard Stern has changed his tune lately, it’s probably because he realizes how much moral damage he’s caused and how much closer he is today to meeting his Maker and having to give an account.

I listened to the Howard Stern show the first day his show was aired in the Cleveland market. A few of the Cleveland Indians team members had just been in a boating accident and I believe two died. Stern and crew mocked their deaths the entire morning. That was the first and last time I listened to his show.

I used to listen to HS on my hour drive to work in the early 2000’s and one day he spend the hour degrading, upsetting one of his coworkers. It was brutal. Howard is just being Howard. He is not some made up character. Robin is desperately trying to defend her job here.

I wish Linda would have used this rare interview as a chance to talk about her own life and her music. I was hoping to hear more about her than her opinion of a different celebrity. I think Howard Stern is swamp algae, but Linda wasted this interview.
Let's face it, Stern made it in the business by being a vulgar, obnoxious, in your face "shock jock," with minimal talent outside of that box. Ronstadt was completely right to call him out here.
He couldn't be successful with his angle and initiative if there weren't individuals that loved to see and hear what he did to others. Personally I didn't watch his interviews, but the times that I did see his E show, some of the goofiness that I witnessed was hilarious as well as entertaining. *Most (not all) folk that complain about what other people are doing/saying, usually are behaving just as poorly. You can't point your finger at someone else's behavior, if you are just as bad in yours.
Politically she is out of her mind therefore has no mind. tho she is a duplicitous limo-leftist hypocrite egoistic self I absorbed where truth is an opinion stated as fact...!
Linda Ronstadt has more talent in her bowel movements than Token Quivers has shown in her entire career. She is the single luckiest human being that ever lived.
Very well said. I am amazed at how many mainstream celebrities have sanctioned or openly participated in the abuse of the mentally ill, those with intellectual disabilities, people struggling with addictions, etc. As Robin continues to make a career out of riding Howard’s coattails, bravo to Linda for being principled enough and calling them out for their BS. I still cannot believe the legitimacy this show has been given to in engage in this type of behaviour and then follow it up with an interview of a former presidential candidate or a member of the Beatles, etc. Howard Stern and Robin Quivers are the most talentless duo in show business and have made an incredible living through the exploitation of their staff and devoted listeners. It is not shocking, but is despicable.
Back then Howard only spoke to one type of audience, the deeply disturbed and vulgar one. When Selena was murdered at such a young age, and the entire nation of fans were weeping after her death, Howard wasted no time to use his dirty and obscure comedy to belittle her on his radio show. I think he apologized eventually, kinda. He got better over the year
Well you confirmed my opinion of that POS. Too little too late with the apologies- he was out of control for years and still talks sex obsessed and racist nonsense most of the time.
Robin was the one who continued to laugh and make jokes on the 9/11 morning Stern show even after knowing that hundreds and probably thousands of innocent people were dead. No respect for her. None.
As O&A would refer to her, she was nothing but a worthless "Hole" there to hit the brake pedal! Glad to see a classy lady like Linda put that "Hole" in her place!
Linda is insanely liberal. But she does her homework. She doesn’t mind admitting she is somewhere left of a Sandinista and you know where she’s coming from. A good case can be made that Stern comes from a POV that is diametrically opposed to her brand of liberalism. I disagree with her on almost everything but she’s honest and smart.
Good on ya, Linda. Howard is never playing a character-what you see is what you get, whether we like it or not. He counts on it and always plays himself to the max.
Yeah, I think she's right on that. I never viewed Howard Stern as a character. I always looked at him as Howard Stern. It's his freaking real name even. It's almost like they are claiming he is an actor portraying a character, so what separates Howard Stern from Howard Stern?
FFS, Ronstadt didn't insult anyone. She said that she found Stern offensive and that she thought Quivers was being used. Those aren't insults. What Stern does is insulting and Quivers gives him cover as a black woman while Stern is crass, misogynistic, and purposefully offensive.
She opened her big fuckin’ mouth about something that she had no idea what she was talking about and acted as if Robin was some dumb unwitting accomplice. If you’re Robin that’s absolutely insulting. Howard is only insulting to thin skinned prudes searching for something to get upset about.
I thought she moved from Tucson to San Francisco. I saw an interview with her, about 2 or 3 years ago, where she said Tucson had become too hot because of global warming, so she had to move (I'm not kidding).
Love how Linda firmly but gently smacked Stern's sidekicks down. One of the few superstars that didn't crave their own reflection - Ronstadt was something. Stern and Quivers thin- skinned bullies.
You couldnt even hear robin over the crowd and shes saying fully “you have every right to express yourself and so do we.” She even at one point gets her point misheard because theyre applauding over robin as well. She says “if you dont listen but you have a problem with it you shouldnt comment on it” trying to highlight the importance of context and its actually heard as “if you dont like it you cant comment”. I felt that was an important distinction.
