@@jrag1000 That's what a good roast is supposed to be, to my understanding. And you can tell Robin Williams meant it as such here, just two friends ribbing each other.
I don’t know if it’s the era, the comedians or the theme in general, but I feel like the older roasts while typical “insult comedy” were humorous jabs at the guest maybe at each other, I feel like the roasts in the last 10-15 years have had the most vulgar comedians making the rudest and cruelest jokes at everyone’s expense, hell I saw one comedian who made multiple comments about each other roaster, plus people not even in attendance, and just a little 3 word “poof” about the guest themself…it’s less “let’s have a fun time” and more “who can I insult next”
@@mariabolt3881 he was one of the best. He worked with many comedians, wrote for shows and comedians as well. Please look up some videos of him. He's hilarious.
We need comedians like RW and RP both sorely missed can you imagine the rib busting laughter we'd have if both these legends were around the content they have to work with is near infinite.
Ah, I knew the "in my day no one was offended" b.s. comment was in here somewhere. But I guess, people say this stuff thinking likes on RU-vid will eventually turn into...something. Meanwhile, pretty much every popular comedian are still saying "offensive" things, making money, not cancelled, etc. In fact, some of them are deliberately trolling to get people "offended" so they can get their Netflix streaming numbers up and pander to people who think society is soft. Hook, line, and sinker.
@@humantacos9800 Then I guess you never heard him talking about lobbyists influencing politicians, corporatism, educational indoctrination or how politicians (including presidents) are just puppets for corporations.
For those who didn't realize it, Robin's last part was a race joke. A man named Earl Butz who was a member of Gerald Ford's cabinet was overheard making the statement: "I'll tell you what the coloreds want. It's three things: first, a tight pu$@y; second, loose shoes; and third, a warm place to sh!t.” This obviously caused a scandal even in the mid-1970s.
I don’t get emotional when celebrities die but when Robin Williams died, I cried. Best human to be out on this earth and made so many people laugh and love.
he was great in the Louie episode right before he passed. too bad louis ck got cancelled over something he was man enough to admit and apologize for but later messed it all up with his terrible "comeback." oof.
Steve Martin, Johnny Carson, Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Dana Carvey, Bob Hope, Chappelle, Seinfeld, David Brenner, Gracie Allen, George Burns, Lucille Ball, Fran Descher, Redd Foxx, Bob Saget, Esther Williams, Artie Johnson, Ruth Buzzi, even Muhammad Ali was ten times funnier.
@TheLarryBrown if Bob Hope made you laugh you're rare. That guy never wrote a joke in his life. That's why everyone hated interviewing him. Because his staff wrote the jokes so the interviewer had to follow the exact script his staff wrote. But I would say you are right about 3 of those. You know which 2. Right?
I'm glad I grew up at a time when comedy was actually funny, and nobody got offended.... Robin and Richard will always be legends in the comedy forum.... RIP Guys👍
The conservatives especially the religious right got offended plenty at the time. The woke left is just this generation/centuries religious right. Both groups are made of the same kind of people authoritarian ideological zealot busybodies that think they are doing what's best for others (and we all know what CS Lewis said about that "Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.). And griffters/ opportunists that are using it gain power and money.
Seriously, stop with this bull💩. Comedy is still funny, still pushes boundaries, still offends the overly sensitive. Just go to a real comedy club and watch some actual comedians. Exactly what are the things you think comics can’t say nowadays that you want them to say? Give examples or stfu. I’m nearly 50 and comedy is only getting more exciting if you bother to look for it.
@@NecramoniumVideocomedy isn't funny anymore because everybody is so incredibly sensitive. Generation z and alpha need to quit crying about everything.
Richard died from burnout and abuse like I should have , but there was something underhanded with Robin. Robin Nor Richard would take that way out. Hollywood is so evil I believe they sacrificed him
If he had said about the yellow ribbon now, people would have torn him apart about it. That's when the best comedians could make jokes, and people just laughed instead. Best years ever. ❤❤❤❤
I really miss both of these guys. Robin Williams was one of the best actors from Mork and Mindy, to Good Morning Vietnam, to Mrs. Doubtfire, to so many more movies and shows that he made iconic just from his pure talent. We miss him so very much, we miss Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder, John Candy, Sam Kinison, and Chris Farley our current generation have been cheated out of so many great actors that they may never know.
Hands down the best comedian ever. Best at ad libbing, best at spontaneity. It was like when Robin took a left turn you didn't know what he would say, or where you'd end up after it. Most likely it would be on the floor having peed your pants, and laughing so hard you were crying and out of breath. Yep, Robin Williams was the very best. R. I. P ❤❤😊
That wasn’t a roast. That was a tribute! And Robin’s genius. He could cut you down, but most of the time it was just holding up the world’s most accurate funhouse mirror.
Of all of the great comedians that are gone now, I miss Robin the most. 😢 I have watched him from his beginning and his humor has brought me through some of my darkest days.
The world still mourns the loss of Robin and Richard two of the best at making us laugh and we all need that even to breathe they just couldn’t make them selfs laugh and were lost but it can’t take away all the joy and laughter that they created thank you both
This is true comedic genius. So much better than the low-hanging fruit you see at most roasts these days filled with whoever can be the crudest and swear the most.
I love and miss you 😘 mr Robin Williams 😢❤❤❤❤ You are one of a kind and there will never be another one who could even compare to your talent ❤❤❤❤❤ I hope 🙏 ❤ that I get to met u in heaven ❤ ♥ 💖 Fly high in the arms of the angels 😇
This is so fabulous about celebrate roasting you can make lite of a tough situation. Love Robin Wilams and and his ability to make people laugh thanks dude great stuff …!!
"I think the saddest people always try to make others happy, because they know what it's like to feel absolutely worthless and don't want anyone else to feel that way." - Robin Williams. One of the great comedians - sure miss him.
yeah cause when you realize your oppressor aint laughing with you but at you and continue to do vile oppressive things then its no longer funny. we would love not to be offended and defensive but bru you got republicans really trying to set us back to the good ole days if you know what i mean. go look up project 2025
He is definitely one of the nicest people I have ever met. I saw him in Philadelphia at the Tower theater and had a vip backstage pass. He signed an Aladdin unopened anniversary DVD along with a Jumanji and Popeye DVD. He was friendly, didn’t mind signing a few things, made small talk, and took pictures with everyone there. I have never laughed that hard as when seeing him do his standup. I think it was 2009. I had started teaching the year before. I was really sad to see him pass away. I hope wherever he is that he is happy.
Robin got away with so much because he somehow managed to never ever have a mean bone in his body. He roasted everyone equally. One of the greatest comedians ever.
and a roast where the people roast the person who is supposed to get roasted. man, these days all they do is attack everyone in the room EXCEPT the guy who's roast is in the name. ??
Hard to believe that’s recorded 50 years ago. Before (I) was born!!! A true Genius, it was a privilege, growing up with him making us laugh. He could find a bright or funny spot in anything. -Thanks Robin
Exactly a master of comedy roasting a master of comedy. They both had their own personal specialties. Robin had the quickest thinking mind of any comedian in history in history. Richard was the boldest smoothest in History
Robin, brotha, we love you and miss you! I wasn’t born in the 80’s but this was a much better world for comedy due to very little PC back then. Wish we could go back.
