I have no copyright for this. It is Robin Williams first album which last i looked was no longer in print. In his honor, I decided to share it with you.
When my kids were old enough I dragged out this LP and let them listen to it. They could not understand why there was no "video" of this performance. I had to explain that the VCR had not yet been invented. Robin will always be my all time hero of comedy.
Actually, there were vcr's in 1979, they were expensive. Plus, he put this album out to qualify for a Grammy. Pretty sure this won a grammy. He had 5 grammys....
Best piece he ever did. *"You probably don't remember World War 3, all 45 seconds of it. Remember when Carter came on the air and went, 'Thank you very much, you're on your own, good night'."* *"Father, the president has the brains of a piss ant, my lord!"*
I used to have the cassette tape version, which I got at a tag sale some 8 years ago.. His little note at the end of one of the sides, as the old hermit from the future, was a life lesson! "Stay, a little full-tilt Bozo.. Keep the spirit of madness in you, Just a little touch of it! Just enough, so you don't become Stupid!"
God Bless you for sharing, this was my introduction to the madness that was Robin. I was in the Army in 78' stationed in Germany, and all my friends wanted to know who is , because there was no Mork and Mindy, we did not watch TV....It is bringing back some great memories.
Thanks for posting this. This was the first comedy album I ever owned, and I have looked for it here nd there through the years on CD but cannot seem to find it. Thanks for letting me revisit this highly intelligent comedy.
Highly intelligent comedy, indeed... and maybe even performed while a little high🙃 The man packed SO much content and with such a wide range of voices and emotions and and..... his combo of depth and hilarity is just priceless‼️
Thank you for sharing this. I first heard it in 1981 when my girlfriend lent it to me. It did the rounds of my boarding house at school, where it received rave reviews by all. I had thought it lost in the mists of time. May your triumphs be mighty, and your failures be molehills, many thanks again.
My Father died in May of 2014 The Three things that got me through it was True Detective, Leonard Cohen, and this Album In August of that year I cried on the way home from work upon hearing of his death and going back to this album along with his other live catalogs!!
I’m sorry 🫂. My folks got me this album. That’s my album I’m holding. I would act out what I thought he was doing when he told the jokes When I’m feeling down. I go back and act them out again. Help get me out of the funk.
this is the very first stand up comedy I had ever heard...when I was pretty young. I've been thinking about it since I heard the news. Thanks for sharing!!
Pure genius, thank you for this. It's been ages and ages since I've listened to this. I've had a lot more of life experience since the last time I listened to it, but I could always tell a real one out there in the wilds if they could finish some of these lines when I started them. I swear, even the cracks and pops are the same as they were on my dad's record.
I’m glad you liked it. My parents got it for me when it first came out, even though it came with the warning on the back. 😂. I was 12. That’s my album I’m holding. I used to act it out in front of the mirror thinking how he acted it out when he was on stage. 🤣
I was just a kid at the time when this came out and would listen to the record when visiting my uncles. Mork & Mindy was breaking out and I remember listening to this and thinking that Mork was saying dirty words.
Thanks for posting this... I remember listening to this with an old friend when it first came out... it was played on the first Portable Cassette player I'd seen. We laughed the day away.
The best things to help with memory (both recalled and storing) are 2 things. 1. A strong emotion. 2. A heightened sense. For example, I remember playing up trees as a kid.. There was a strong emotion of playfulness and all senses were used but in particular the smell of certain bushes stay with me and I'm taken back to my childhood each time I go past certain smelling bushes. So what you have experienced is a memory recall. Your activated sense is hearing and your activated strong emotion is humour. Activating these 2 things has led you to remember :)
back when this came out I went to a department store and they had 2 versions of the same album why ? One version was g rated for family and the other was his uncensored nightclub act, I got the nightclub act version and I played it so much I could do the routines as good as him. I tried a longshot and put the name of the album in the browser box and was surprised to see it was there the same one I had thank you so much
