The only thing he didn’t mention is the Environmental movement only applies to white people with money to get their money. Greta *who has banked millions) said we ask China nicely. What a joke. One volcano pollutes more than we can in 100 years. These people are grifters.
It always amazes me how someone can write a script this large, memorize it and then get on stage and deliver it as though it were coming naturally from your thoughts
I always loved it when people shake off the people pleaser mindset that kills millions of people and instead speak their mind and stay true to themselves!!!!!!!!!
Asian countries were buying our recycling and making stuff with it. So it actually was being put to good use, but now I don't think they're buying much these days.
I mean that line contradicts itself in a way, because as he said saving the planet is about saving ourselves. "Since the planet is fine but the people are fucked". So by trying to save our habitat we are tying to take care of ourselves and each other.
it is comedy and it is important information to share. No one listens to an angry person who is just flapping his gums about his anger with humanity, but when you rant about it with a comical view about it, then everyone listens. Comedy puts an ease to the angry perspective and it makes it easier to listen. It's much easier for humans to take in information when they are simply happy.
Indeed, as a younger person it's super interesting to listen to his older stand up today. Wish he was still around cause I really want to know what he would think/say about the current state of the world
There sre later interviews when he is very blunt. Keep sharing Carlin. The current generation needs to stand up to ALL one sided arguments and save freedom and free speech. That’s what ever made America great.
They where jokes of course he can be touched he Is aware of that if everything he said is 100% percent true itd be delusion dont fucking follow this man like hes a monk hes just an experienced man and comedian
I am a 60's man including Vietnam. I went as a Ranger but this guy was and still is Our guy. Period! . Love him.I am 73 and still a Army Ranger and still love but miss George Carlin
Life is a process, death is a moment. Life ends in death and death begets new life. Look at life. Look at you being alive right now. ... What are you really?
@@akshaynatu1084 Quite the opposite. Although he is not the fearless sociopath that he plays in his darker stuff after '94, he is still an extraordinary person to be around as said by his contemporaries in various interviews after his death. He actually emphasized that it was only when he started doing comedy for himself that he enjoyed his work and got popular as a result. You should watch a documentary or two about him to clear things up.
There will never be a comedian that has the Intelligence and creativity is George Carlin what a wonderful person to experience and share with millions of people
George Carlin - probably the most intelligent comedian to date. I don’t laugh a lot when I watch him, but I’m left speechless by his erudition, oratory, perspective, and wisdom.
He was incredibly well-versed and had a fascination for linguistics. He also practiced his delivery like nobody else. He understood the importance of every aspect of communication. I think it is arguably one of the most intelligent celebrities of the last 100 years. If feels insulting to call him a celebrity but he was definitely famous lol
I love George Carlin. If I were ever asked that age old philosophical question.. What well known person would you love to sit down, with dead or alive of course my first answer would be George Carlin but on the other hand, that just might piss him off? He would be the one I would have loved sitting with George and just watch how he thinks 😅
I didn't discover George Carlin before this very moment. Thank God I did! THIS is what I want to hear; Life seen from the very big perspective. Amazing! I can already tell he's a legend.
"The planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE." At one point, we don't know exactly when it happened, Carlin stopped doing Stand-up Comedy and started doing Stand-Up Facts masked as comedy.
I have seen George a couple of times in Cali and of course followed his stuff before (66 here) ,he was a liberal for years then sometime he learned a bit of reality instead of dreaming and hoping, his thing has always been based on facts, language, idiosyncracies of people, etc etc
People watching this saying he is ahead of his time don’t realize that despite advances in technology, we’ve actually just had the exact same societal issues in America for centuries. He was just really talented at articulating his thoughts in a way that was second to none
Just found out about George Carlin, I've been on a binge for 2 days listening to his content. Sometimes I close my eyes and it feels like he is doing standup in 2023. What an absolute legend
Since this was filmed, the amount of nature that still exists has been cut in half. Think about that. He was wrong then, but he's twice as wrong today. Well over 90% of nature has been destroyed. Insects have collapsed by well over 90%, same with land vertebrates.
"Save the Planet? The planet is fine...THE PEOPLE are fucked! Difference." "The Planet isn't going anywhere...WE ARE!" I've been truly amazed by George Carlin's style of speaking the truth in front of his audience and still be able to make them laugh of themselves. Absolute genius.
I've always liked him but he really missed the mark regarding climate change. Either he didn't know or didn't believe what was predicted by REAL scientists in the 70s and is happening right now in 2021 across the entire country. Can't win 'em all.
@@marshallbaxter9231 Yeah, but he was right on the mark concerning the fact that "the planet has been through much worse than us." We are arrogant thinking we matter so much.
Indeed. I never really got why he's classified as a comedian. 98% of his content is just him speaking his mind on rather serious topics. The stage is his soapbox. Sure he is funny from time to time, but so is the guy on the soapbox. It kinda reminds me of the Nina Simone thing and the "Mississippi Goddam". It kinda sounds like a show tune but the lyrics are actually a really bleak cry of desperation, pain and deep, black sorrow. But the audience laughed and enjoyed themselves, at least in the beginning. I guess even those most bent on having a good time started choking when she basically sang that they'd all burn in hell.
Much more than a comedian, Carlin was/is an inspiring human being. This could have been written a 1000 years ago, or yesterday... this makes me cry everytime on how crude and true it is thinking about it. His brilliance is timeless and these thoughts live forever. Thank you for this George. RIP
It is so impressive the way Carlin was able to deliver long sentences without stuttering, without stumbling, without mispronouncing anything. So smooth. Great presenter. And better yet, he was right!!
He practiced in front of a mirror and memorized his routines over and over until they were flawless. You can find vids of this exact same act word for word right down to the facial expressions on another night in another venue. He was a notorious perfectionist.
Same just because for example save the children it doesn't make you a morally good person but behind close doors these individuals can be physically verbally or emotionally abusive in general. So called good people on this planet don't impress me at all they often do it as a cover up and a very narcissistic point of view.
@@JennyFB1281 exactly I'm not glorifying bad behavior but these so called self righteous people in general are far worse and more dangerous because they are covert or undercover with their degenerate behavior in general and projecting in unto others.
@@abrahampalmer8761 You're right. I've had the misfortune of working for several so-called social justice organizations and the majority of the people working at them were some of the most condescending, elitist, and arrogant I've ever met. I can remember one manager telling support staff at a meeting that some days they'll feel like they're in the movie The Devil Wears Prada because she'll be taking out her frustration and bad moods on them, and anyone else in a lower rank than her. Because she's one of the bosses and it's her PRIVILEGE to act that way and treat lower level staff that way. And this is just one of many incidents I saw, and doesn't include the ignorance that was directed towards me multiple times. Sickening, hypocritical, virtue signaling trash.
Carlins relevancy transcends time. Then again, if you listen more to him, he'll say that time doesn't exist and that it's nothing more than a human invention 😁
Remember watching when it just came out I thought it was really good and funny Now I think this is genius and frightening RIP George Carlin we’re still watching you
Today i was humbled by this amazing speech yet again! I must have seen this clip atleast 1000 times and each time while laughing i was humbled by his accuracy of the "now" in each frame 1000 times. This clip is very educational, it takes layers of consciousness to understand..
"Save the planet? We haven't learned to care for one another! We're going to save the fucking planet?!" George was always so on point regarding the topics he spoke about. For me, his intelligence is the main thing that makes him my favourite stand up of all time. At times he could be hilarious, but there was always a basic truth lying at the heart of all his material. I miss him, his stand up is very much still needed today
Kinda feel he missed the mark with that stuff though. I mean, the Earth is our habitat, so attempting to "save the planet" IS trying to "care for one another."
learning how to properly share this environment is the first step to saving it. We can't just not save it though, unless we're okay with disappearing as a species in a climate apocalypse of starvation, sickness, and strife.
The fact that his material is still relevant till this day shows clearly that he was a philosophical genius & it is insane how timeless it is. You can literally watch it over and over & never get bored. George Carlin needs to be forever remembered as a legendary comedian ahead of his time 💯
@@elliott9628 Yeah because you were programmed to never go against your teachers or ''authorities'',or their beliefs. Guess you believe in climate change, think that government cares for you,and you're lined up for vaccine?
@@vietnowsoldo I'm a marine ecologist studying the impacts of climate change in the arctic ocean, this shit is real. The closest I can think of would be like a Bill Burr or a Jimmy Carr. But that's an unfair comparison because Bill and Jimmy purposely try to offend you. George simply told you his opinion and it just happened to be fucking hilarious
Many comics today hardly make me smile, much less laugh. George, however, never gets old., he’s timeless and was way ahead of his time. A true giant. He always made me laugh and still does. But even better, he makes me think.
it's strange how we think that some things could be amended in decades, or in course of a lifetime. humans have always had the same problems, for thousands of years now. think about wars, colonization, diseases. the same things have been happening for centuries and are still happening..we live in chaotic, mad, ok, a bit more sophisticated, but still mad world.

I think Carlin would roll in his grave if he saw how people interpreted this segment today. Carlin believed in climate change, but he thought humans had it coming for putting nature to the test. This segment isn't about shitting on climate change action, it's a mockery of our "Save the planet" rhetoric, because ultimately, we're trying to save ourselves, not the planet.
he was a political nutjob anyways. He would make bernie run for his money lol. Lets not even mention his backwards views of lynching people he disagrees with in front of a mob or national television. Politicaly and philosophically he is just like my dad, not to be taken seriously. They hate democracy but dont know what to use as a substitute for it. So i think concervatives actually using one his few LOGICALLY GOOD points to say a message is actually a plus.
I would say that he also at least was mentioning the fact that extinction events and worldwide cataclysms happened well before we got here and certainly well before we industrialized
I am a Senior at a university, and this man would enrage the ENTIRE "Science" community at my campus. I LOVE IT!! I'm a going for my major in Biology, and it's the same thing: "Save the Earth. Save the Earth. Save the Earth." George Carlin is right about one thing: even before man became super industrialized, species, animal, plant, microscopic, ecosystems were already being naturally destroyed and/or replaced. Not to mention, not every damn thing humans do to the Earth is harmful. And I'm not talking about the preservation stuff. I mean stuff we inadvertently do. Don't some animals flock to our factories or powerplants, where water is warm and stuff to keep warm? Look at Barn Swallows. I've been seeing them make MASSIVE nest colonies under highways using mud during their yearly migrations. also, the people who do destroy rainforests and all, WHO owns the money to afford to destroy it all? The average person? No. Rich and greedy corporations. If the average person tried to deforest the whole rainforest, we know they would be stopped with no problem.
@@trustinJesus_only-_ Not to mention, people love to use the word "Organic." You know, if the molecule contains Carbon, it's organic. That's where Organic Chemistry gets its name from: Carbon. But not every Organic molecule is safe. Lots of them are toxic. I was in Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 labs, and the chemicals we worked with (Organics) were known to be toxic. So, yeah. Hard pill for them to swallow.
"Been through earth quakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sunspots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles, hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring Ice Ages and we think some plastic bags!!?" The best question of all time.
He's sane but still lacking modern sciences, we figured out that climate change will likely kill us, not the planet, we should be extremely careful what we do in the future and now to save ourselves.
Such a good and random act of generous hope and reconcilation wetween generations who needed too balance out any social gaps we all had to save ourselves from or of more. This guy's example helped me think of how my life might of been the same with others later❤️ What more can we ask for.
Carlos Bosso Except it's not his word against scientists. Any scientist would tell you that he's actually correct; we pose no threat to the planet. Animals? Absolutely. We're poisoning fish and wales who eat the plastic and sea turtles end up with plastic straws lodged up their nostrils. Plant life? Of course. We're deforesting at an alarming rate. But at the end of the day, there's nothing we could do to the Earth that hasn't already been done ten fold. And the Earth has recovered every. Single. Time. And will continue to do so. After 5 ice ages killed everything on earth, plants and animals included, more life bloomed in it's absence.
He's so right, in every conceivable way. "Take care of yourselves. And take care of somebody else. Goodnight." That's really all it comes down to. R.I.P Carlin, you're the man.
When many people talk " saving the planet", what they actually mean is.....saving the lifestyle of human beings. Not the life of our planet - but the lives of people.
He was a genius that was always ahead of the times. Saw Him live in the 90's. I had worked on the ac systems in this theatre when it was built. So I took a side exit instead of following the crowd out when the show was over. A limo rolled by and stopped, the rear window went down & it was Mr. Carlin. He shook my hand and thanked me for coming to his show..and told me to have a safe trip home. Such a down to earth & nice man. The world is a lesser place without him. But at least we have him recorded going back decades
@@micahbodha6129 The limo service is commonly provided by the organiser of such events as part of the whole deal. For someone huge like Mr Carlin it's a standard practice in many parts of US and he deserves it even more than most. The humility mentioned by OP is the fact that he stopped the limo just to greet his random audience - which you probably won't even bother doing if it was you in that limo.
