Thank you for covering this. My heart goes out to all the Roblox game developers and the community. I wish there was a way to preserve Roblox history and games, but it seems we have no say in what gets to stay anymore. A corrupt platform is never a good place to host your creations.

I think that the policy may be updated to only inappropriate uses of said "Assets." This is because of how much R63 Porn there is all across the web, which might explain part of it, or just a multi-billion dollar company being a multi-billion dollar company.
This is incredibly suspicious. Why would they set things up so that so many games are susceptible to banning, then give people a detailed tutorial on how to report and ban games that violate the rule? It's almost as if they just want to kill half the site's experiences en masse, but what would they possibly gain from that?
I mean, besides the fact that Roblox is extremely predatory in terms of how they get money (seriously they use to get 70% off every purchase... SEVENTY. PERCENT.) They also are super out of touch w/ the community.

I would say there’s no such thing as a “Roblox community” these days, the platform has been growing so much in players since 2020 thanks to specific games gaining crazy popularity on TikTok and RU-vid that there’s micro-communities forming around games like Adopt me, which barely interact with others outside their circle. In my opinion 90% of the Roblox players don’t play “Roblox” but just 1 or 2 games. So they don’t care at all about the state of the platform but rather the games they play
At least the audio update had a reason, the amount of time it would take to remove all the copyrighted audios from the catalog would take a while, so they just pulled the plug. This update just straight up has no reason to exist. Thank god they cancelled it.
The “major” updates we had mostly turned out to be just a minor nuisance, but this, this is actually going to make people leave the platform. Well done Roblox, you’ve dug your own grave
One big thing to keep in mind is some quick paced games like deepwoken or peroxide for examples. Depending on how big the pop-ups had to be imagine getting attacked and half of your screen is covered just because you used a barber to add some hair... Thank goodness it's postponed but even then it may end up being released later on no matter what the community says.
imagine if the pop-up is, its OWN difficulty, it cover's half the screen and add's a pop-up each time you make a parry to an attack that you'd have to close lol
The audio privacy update almost made me quit Roblox as a developer, but as a enjoyer of old Roblox, this could've been fatal to my progress on the games i'm trying to build.

They’ve been trying since the dawn of their anthro idea to cater to older users, since they aren’t satisfied with having just kids on their platform anymore, they want to be for “all ages”. They’ve been drooling at Zuckerberg’s idea of an metaverse where a lot of your life would take place within a virtual world that belongs to a corporation, because that is the most profitable outcome imaginable. They’ll stop once the game dies, but for now it will only get worse from here Edit: For anyone who doesn’t get why they’d push Rthro and R16 so hard on people is because they want the community to look more presentable to investors, advertisers and other people who want to get in. RTHRO Was a horrible mistake, I ran into people on the seven hour war on roblox and I asked them what they'd think of roblox if they added it. They said " I'd honestly quit. I'm done. " And I never saw them again.
it's kinda sad to see the game we're growing up with becomes more capitalizing and don't even care about the community, they just do it the way roblox think they need, not giving what the community want. I'm pretty much retired from this game since few years ago, but seeing this kind of news is just hits hard, I can't imagine the old games we used to play a lot being deleted or having a major update with no more freedom for the creator to make it the way they want, but the way roblox need, and that's just sad.
WTF? they could give the right to sue and take down games by the ugc creator will, but suddenly they are forcing all these games to change for 1 week, otherwise the devs would be banned, and on top of that, you can’t use off sale items in game anymore? That’s crazy.

Roblox stole and used countless assets offsale when making their game in the late 2000's to early 2010's without permission. If my understanding of this update is correct, they're literally punishing players for the same thing they'd done for about 5 years. It's just straight up hipocrasy.
With all this rules it seems Roblox REALLY wishes to have every single one of their items deleted and leave everything UGC. And not even that, even limiting their UGC as now you will need permission for that. Do they think everyone is intp 3d modeling? This sounds as a terrible update in all ways and views.

Let's say I made a game that uses something like sharbloxs trashclub mask, I wouldn't be allowed to use that asset, that's what this update is about, it will cause so many games to break
If this what gets considered in the company, 90% of the executive staff must be fired without any chance of being reinstated. This is straight up dumb and self destructive. There is no benefits neither for the community or the company.
To be honest this was somewhat expected. For the past few days we've been seeing a lot of improvements from Roblox, but whenever there is improvement, there's the bombshell.

There's no way that they could've possibly thought of something so atrocious. This update would've been absolutely NOTHING compared to the audio update.
I have wondered for years if they would do something akin to this because of how useless this would make Roblox's catalog and avatars for revenue. A more SENSIBLE option would be to block IDs the same way they did with audio, but that would still be CATASTROPHIC.
This was just gonna limit creativity so much.. Roblox really could've been done for. If this went through, all Sword Fighting games and all users with basic items can't use said items.

I think there's something going on within the company. They have all these tweets on their brand account constantly recognizing games shared by users on Twitter. To me, it seems like some parts of the company are in touch with the community and other parts aren't. I wish they'd just be transparent with us.
I've never seen a platform take this many L's before. It is astonishing to me how Roblox has constantly made the worst updates over and over, and then manages to come up with something even worse than the last thing they created. We really need someone else to make decisions for Roblox because whoever is making these choices needs to do something else with their career. I don't know how much longer Roblox will last if they keep this up
We need to get some public statements from the people working under the company just so we can see what they were thinking when trying to implement this and everything else in the past.

Well their little practices have broken my hope for the sites future to the point ive cancelled my subscriptions and ceased spending money on the site alltogether.
The funny part is that there is a literal whole tab called "Try On Shopping" which they promote on the home page which contains games like Catalog Avatar Creator, yet they planned to release an update that ruin those games. Someone at Roblox REALLY didn't get the motto, did they?

Probably one of the worst roblox updates since the audios have been removed from the platform. But unfortunately I believe updates are only going to get worse as time goes on
What’s worse about this is that things like HD admin and more is no longer usable due the fact you can change/give your avatar some items like gears and hats.

I’ve already been done with Roblox since March when they decided to falsely terminate my account with 6 years of hard work. Now I just spectate and see Roblox fall more.
I think what roblox thinks is that since they have such a loyal fanbase they can do whatever, make people angry, and other random crap and yet people will still play it.

@@Kromiball Yea but got worse in 2018-2019 imo, UGC being introduced at first was nice, but then we unoriginal cash grabs, milked items like the FNF stuff, straight up stolen stuff from existing fictional series' without any credit, etc. Egg hunts also started to fall off and events were no longer as memorable, either being shameless brand promotions or movie promotions, although I did like the free accessories. And the final nail int he coffin was the Metaverse bs, trying to make us all Rthro and what not backfired so bad nobody uses it except trolls and Roblox employees.
same, i don't play it anymore yet i still watch videos on new shitty roblox updates because youtube is reccomending me these videos. i don't play it anymore because: the byfron update is terrible, ever since that update its just been lagging my roblox player app on my computer and plus it didn't even stop hackers because i still see a ton of exploiters i saw some exploiter who modified country flags in a geography game to be graphic pornographic drawings. the games are all copied cash-grab games with bright colors and they use trends like skibidi toilet or grimace shake. i remember when roblox used to actually be creative and not a ton of games that are basically the same thing; same rules; same concept but with different settings/atmospheres/environments/themes. roblox is super boring now, so i don't even play it. the community is so toxic; the moderation is so bad they never even ban people who bully/harass literal children and ruin the mental health of children. i once reported a guy to roblox who told a kid to kill themselves just because the kid accidentally private messaged him and roblox did nothing about it.

We should keep in mind the possibility of Roblox announcing a much horrible change than what they have in mind to then change it to what they originally waned so we accept it because "this change is bad, but not as bad as what they originally wanted".
Honestly I don't know what's been happening recently. Roblox isn't the only company doing this sort of stuff, unity and other companies in similar industries are doing it as well, it's as if all the boomers running these companies collectively got together and decided it's time to end the ability to have a good time on the internet or something.
By Far this is the worst update, especially for games who has a community making maps and whitelisting to those games (Flood Escape 2 for example). The only benefit of the doubt that a Roblox Executive would greenlight this, could be to prevent model stealing, previous to turning off-sale items off. However, that perspective is likely to cause a huge failure, considering only one audience, and having all games affected, when model stealing could have been moderated, by identifying who possess the item, and what they're going to do.
RIP Catalogue Avatar Creator, the one tool I have used for nearly a year to ensure thousands of UGC accessories and characters were up to my standards.
The larger Roblox gets the more money and income centered they get to the point of aiming to harm the whole community deliberately. This was inevitable, yet still tragic to watch
This is truly one of the worst updates ever, but there can be worse and I don't want to see these happen. I hope the policy refinement will be dropped.
Roblox needs a larger board of developers that must all approve updates before release i feel like this update wasnt approved by anyone but the developer who made it
If we get something like this at all in the future, then people like me may very well have to quite developing on the platform and give up on dreams some of us have had for maybe even over a decade. I can't tell you how tired I am of Roblox's constant ignorant and inconsiderate updates. If Roblox continues to go down this path, then I am packing my bags and leaving. And I hope millions of other people like me do so as well. Because the fact of the matter is that it may very well take pretty much a kick in their balls for them to realize that when you keep messing with the bull, you will eventually get the horns.

For new developers, here’s some stuff I used to do that could help your game not get banned by this update IF YOU’VE JUST STARTED DEVELOPING IT. These tips are probably not helpful for a finished game. Also, these tips are not good for heavily scripted games. For non-moving NPCs, you can use a part or a cylinder as the head and add a decal you made for the face. Or, if you’re into 3D modeling, you could make a replica of the original roblox head, slap a face on it. and import it into the game. If you want to be creative, you could make an original head, but not a lot of people do that. Just make sure to weld the head to the NPC or anchor it. For shirts/pants, make your own. If you have no robux, use parts or 3D models to make them, but if you do have a reasonable amount of robux, make and upload 2D clothes onto the roblox platform. There are dozens of templates available to use. Just make sure your clothes have no copyright symbols on them, or else you could get a warning, or banned. Stay away from free models! This is common sense, but some people don’t listen and continue to use untrustworthy models without checking them. Free models can have harmful scripts that can hurt your game or force-teleport you into another game. This includes admin commands too, because if this update rolls out, the abilities of admin commands could potentially get you terminated. Take this point with a grain of salt, though.
Roblox basically shot themselves in the foot, thought about it, shot themselves in the foot again, thought about it once more for a bit longer and then began to repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot until it was mush.
This update could've easily ruined the devs hard work on Roblox, Banning off sale stuff to be used on an NPC or in the game itself is just straight up ridiculous.
Basically forced in your face adware you can’t refuse as a player IP abuse should be down to the copyright holder/creator to figure. ROBLOX should only be acting in the case of a DMCA notice being filed by the copyright holder or someone authorised to act in their behalf. They should not be acting as the main man at all and should not be judge, jury and executioner where it comes to copyright
I don't think very big devs(like big games unfortunately) will be affected but well for small or inactive devs, well they are doomed, i just hope this still took alot of months so almost all devs can get ready for the update
I really, REALLY hope Roblox gets absolutely lambasted for this update so there's at least a chance they realize "Hey! This update is pretty stupid!". They just don't care anymore.
What is with every company deliberately making everyone mad and losing money? Is it some kind of trend or challenge to see who loses most? Nintendo is even straight up encouraging piracy by abandoning an enormous amount of good games after closing the 3DS and Wii U eshops. For the few old games available, they don’t let you buy them anymore, you’re forced to rent them on a shoddy subscription! Does it even count as piracy for games they completely abandoned and won’t let people pay for? It’s not like they want the money. Anyways I wasn’t too into Roblox but enjoyed several games, which won’t have long left if (or should I say when?) this update happens. I don’t let myself get attached to online games anymore. Even if it’s as huge as Roblox, it always falls apart eventually. No matter how big or rich, the company can easily decide out of nowhere to end it. I’m playing the Roblox games I liked again. At least I’ll have some closure before losing everything I’ve done since 2018, or they’re heavily downgraded and never the same.
