I always thought the RoboCable story could work well if given a larger budget. I still have fun with this mini-series, but the budget was stretched thin haha
Yeah, there were numerous interviews with the filming crew that basically reveals, they wanted it to be more accurate to the movies but couldn't due to budgetary constraints. Like ED209's should be guarding OCP offices.
Imagine if we could have gotten a version of this story in the original universe instead of Robocop 3, with Peter Weller as Robocop. That film would have killed it at the box office!
@@AaronMorrisTheSteamFoxIt is interesting with the writers who try to make sequels to Robocop. They all want to make different versions of Robocop, their version. Rarely is it to increase the number of Robocops. Imagine where dead cops are successfully made into Robocops. Wasn't that the original idea of the classic movie?
@@gregorymcavoy758yeah, I watched the remake, and it's just a totally different movie. Rather than a tale of how corruption came into Detroit (yes, IRL, fictionalized a bit to avoid scrutiny), the remake is a moral lesson about mass surveillance. Not the same story at all, although a few elements are recycled to lure fans of the original franchise.
Fun Fact: The actor who plays John Cable/Robocable was in the 80s sci-fi series Captain Power and The Soldiers of the Future as the member of the team whose power suit gave him the ability to disguise himself.
The others were kind of a shock, but Robo-Cop just had the sort of look that young children (boys in particular) would be and were in fact drawn too. Robo-Cop was pretty much a license to print money.
I wasn't familiar with this character, or the show he's from, but I did see the 2010s Robocop movie. And while the darker parts of the movie aren't presented as over the top satire, like the the original and its first sequel (I haven't seen the third one) often did, I didn't think it was a bad movie. The ED units were given a darker, sleeker, and not laughable presence as well. I like the original a bit more still, maybe cause I saw it as a little kid and have that nostalgia factor, but I enjoyed the remake too.
Robocable was always a cool concept. By this point it was years since Bob Norton and his team, and we had already seen that OCP without that team and perfect storm of research and know how failed to replicate Robocop. So it was reasonable for someone at some point to just say, 'well why don't we just replicate what norton did step for step instead?
Bob Morton But that doesn't make any sense. Why would you replicate what was surely an outdated experiment by this point? Why cram useless tech into a supposedly new RoboCop? All they did was give him two pistols. Woop de doo! 🙄 Whatever software that ran Robo would've surely been obsolete at that point and who's to say Cable would've assimilated to it? And if it were so easy why didn't Dr Flax do the exact same thing once all the other Robos went haywire in RoboCop 2?
Ohhh. So Cable was Murphy's partner before Ann Lewis. That's interesting. I never thought of that. I think there should be a stand alone Robocable movie. John Cable/Robocable is a great character who I feel deserves his own movie.
Detail. The people fighting Robocop and Robocable are known as "system support," aka Robohunters. Their basically I.T. but with guns, they're not cops.
I loved the movies (except the 2014 movie ) the tv show was meh but I remember seeing this minister. Edit: the guy who played Robocable also played in the movie called The Cube
Truly Robocable is no doubt an upgraded version to Robocop but the only difference between the 2 is that Cable's tragedy was worse. Unlike Murphy Cable married a power driven wife who do anything & sacrifice anyone to see her ambition come to fruition & by an ex-OCP employee who have beef WITH OCP. Despite the reprogramming as well as being use as a pawn by his wife Cable save Delta City from from that ex-OCP employee as well and reminds Murphy who he is.
For all its flaws, pacing and editing being the worst, Robocop Prime Directives is worth a watch. While on a budget, the production tried very hard to capture the feel of the original Robocop film. For the most part, they actually pulled it off with the corporate subplots, the offbeat humor and news stories in the mini-series. Robocop is Robocop in this mini-series. The ending was solid. (Just make sure to watch the scenes during the credits of the last part of the mini-series.) Care went into the making of this mini-series. If you can get passed the flaws of the mini-series, it is an enjoyable six hour watch.
Yeah, watched them a month ago or so via streaming services. I acknowledge the budget constraints, yet I found it very worthwhile. A good watch, IMHO, if expectations are adjusted accordingly.
I watched this when it first aired on the Sci-fi channel. Despite being a made for tv movie, it was neat how it explored the backstory of Alex Murphy prior to becoming Robocop.
And that's why entertainment ie Hollywood always messes up. Everything doesn't always have to be explained. Characters lose their mystique when you either humanize them (drago in that trash Creed 2) or explain where they come from (aliens in Prometheus/Covenant)
He was also in the 80s sci-fi series Captain Power and The Soldiers of the Future as the member of the team whose ppwee suit gave him the ability to disguise himself as enemy droids and others.
It's because Robocable is new, and shiny armored body that I liked him. But in Indonesia the series ended when Robocop manage to reawaken John Cable in Robocable and walks out together.
@@porko882 we'll see how it would become "way better" than a female Robocop. It's gonna be transgender. 😂 It's also gonna be rainbow colored instead of silver like the original one. 🤣 Plus it's gonna show bigotry towards straight citizens. 😆
I have a lot of thoughts about this because nobody I know saw this set of films. I did not really like these straight to dvd Robocop films because they did not capture Verhoeven's vision. In the theatrical films Robo 1, Verhoeven managed to blend the most extreme gun violence and language with comedic moments like the news clips and tv ads. Also, the villains were usually oddly funny (example: Boddicker hitting on Jones secretary & Boddickers crew each had funny moments). Verhoeven also bought this charm to the Starship Trooper movies before the studio ran that franchise to the ground. Kirchner directed Robo 2 and was able to capture some of Verhoeven's vision, but once again the studio wanted to sell merch because somehow Robocop attracted kids and they wanted a safer experience to sell more tickets. We got the steaming pile of dog poo that was Robocop 3. I felt these set of Robo movies followed in the footsteps of the unwatchable Robocop 3. None of the charm of the first 2 films were present in 3 or these dvds. The other problem I had with this was creating another Robocop in the same style as Murphy. Whenever a franchise does this, it takes away from the title characters. Even if Robocable was a different build like maybe War Machine to Stark's Iron Man, where there are similarities, but you can tell the difference, then it would be better than this. I felt if they were going to go this route, then Cable should have survived, and Murphy should have died since Murphy's original cast (and actor was gone) therefore, I felt his story is pretty much done. Crowbarring his grown-up son was interesting, but from what I recall it was underutilized. I felt there should have been more emotional scenes. What is it to see your father as a cyborg? Was there resentment on his son's part that Murphy never visited him (even though Murphy tried). To bring my juggernaut review to a close, I felt Cable should have ushered in a new set of films the fans would accept. This was done with another defunct series called the Highlander. The Highlander in theaters had heavyweights at the time like Chris Lambert (Colin McCloud) and Sean Connery, but the tv series created a new character Duncan McCloud (like these movies) played by Adrian Paul, who had the same abilities of immortality. The show was such a hit, they got 6 years out of the franchise which led to one more theatrical film that joined the original cast and the tv cast together. That is what Robocable could have done but alas this remains in what Mr Sunday calls 'the caravan of garbage'. I did look up Robocop and apparently Verhoeven wanted to return to the franchise by making a direct sequel to Robocop 1 that would have ignored part 2 and 3. I do not think we will ever get that film. I also wonder if the original actors Nancy Allen and Peter Weller would return. Unfortunately, the captain and the Old man are no longer with us, so they would need to figure out how to get around that. Hopefully, they won't bring back the Kanemitsu Corporation. I would like to see Cyberdyne Systems take over and we get the beginning of the famed Robocop vs Terminator that has been in development hell since the 90s. If you like what you read or were somewhat entertained. Please give me a like and or a comment. I am gauging interest of building a review platform. I truly appreciate it.
Oh man, I missed this back in the day. In the original RoboCop, Murphys change into RoboCop was the peak of cybernetics, yet he is armed with a burst fire 9mm that can be stored inside the thigh. So RoboCable is the upgrade, think they might give him a bigger gun, or a fabricated weapon that can do more stuff? Nope! Instead he gets to dual wield chrome berretas, and get a new targeting system that is chrome too RoboCable? More like RoboBling!
I 1st saw the original Robocop wwwaaayyy back in 87 after it left the theaters. Still madly in love with 1 and 2 till this day. Never knew there were straight to DVD films based on the franchise. Interesting 🤔
If you're interested in watching it. Just keep your expectations low. At best, its a movie with Robocop TV budget. At worse, it's like the Disney animated sequels.
I actually enjoyed this series. I find it a lot more entertaining than the 3rd movie. Yea, it was low budget, but I think they did good with what they had, and made good use of it. The story was entertaining, and I personally enjoyed see more of Murphy pre Robocop, since the movies focused on this family and not the rest of his life.
Despite the fact that i like this movie, along with almost all Robocop movies, Robocable is a kinda stupid name. I mean, it doesn't sound right. Like, i can understand such name as Robocop and what it means and why he has that name, but WTF is a Robocable stands for, the person who became this cyborg? Like, that doesn't stick with what he is in the movie as this cyborg. Like, they could name him anything else, like Cybercop, Cyborgcop or Robocop 2.0 and that would sound better than Robocable. Anyway, cool movie but bad names for some characters.
RoboCable was used on promotional stuff, not in the miniseries. He´s called "Crime Prevention Unit 002" or "Mr. Cable" by the characters in the movies.
I didn't know these Robocop straight to video B movies had such a good story,if Robocop 3 had this story Peter Weller might have chosen to be involved in it,instead of the crap Robocop 3 we got.
I've got a great idea for a TV show: "Robocops" 👐🏼 a team of five deceased police and servicemen are brought back as cyborg enforcers, each with a different area of expertise.
@@justaclosedaccount he was the Nazi Officer in Enemy at the Gates, he's the man in black in West World, and he played John Glenn in the Right Stuff. He's in a bunch of movies. I can see how you can get him confused with Peter Weller though. He looks like he could be Peter Wellers dad
@@tdtommy196 oooooh yep yep yep, you are correct sir.. They're both old blokes now with that gravel Robocop voice. I'll have to double check if it was Peter Weller or Ed Harris in Son's of Anarchy. Now I'm also confused about which one was the bad guy in the startrek reboots... IMDb ftw.
Robocop prime directives was awful, the guy playing Murphy, couldn't get the get the movements right at all, very low budget show and the limited makeup effects on the actors once they take the Robocop helmet off, even the original tv show got that right, he also looked very awkward and moved more like Frankenstein monster and looks like he was having a stroke when he was getting shot (7:32) for example as that's not what Peter Weller established with his movement coach. One point, the stand in for the actor who plays Robocop, the stand in didn't even fit in the suit! you could see how the chin guard was miles away from the actors face. The pro's of the show are that at least they had the right intentions, I mean the people were disappointed of the KID friendly 1994 show and Robocop 3, so I can appreciate prime directives tried to bring back the adult focus themes and violence that made the original 2 memorable it's just a shame the budget let them down.
Many of the fans would or should understand armor upgrades there needs to be repairs and modifications a common educated mind should be able to fix and understand that RoboCop is a legendary Officer of the law a hero cop who is qualified to be that defined by his actions being a hero is more the. Saving a life it’s BEABLE to save your own as well and any others in the vicinity? It’s Nick guess star Robocable I wonder since A.I. And robotics in history seem to at sometime realize they are Self aware what about sentience Consciousness makes There Senses up 🆙 even I get confused about it
What a piece of B grade shite haha. I never knew about it till now, I think I was better off. I remember Maurice Dean Wint from "Cube". Now that is a good movie.
Ive been a Robocop nut since i was little im 46 yrs old now & literally just got hip to this show & the 2 others last month on Tubi i enjoyed em i thought Robocop was to big & bulky but thas nit picking i liked the shows!!!
15:40 why in this scene robocable didnt grab mind controller with free left arm from Kadic, broke it and do what he wants instead of being Kaidic's puppet?
The scene with the dogs is such a ripoff of Watchmen (the original comic, not the movie) that it actually made me mad when I first saw this back in the day, lol😂
If Verhoeven do this as a movie it will be a big hit and true robocop sequel. The story have much potential and have the human aspect of the first robocop
