RoboCop has a dynasty of comics. I already named one in the other comments. Here's the other 5: Marvel Comics (1990-1992), plus adaptations of the first two films. Frank Miller's RoboCop versus The Terminator from Dark Horse Comics (1992) which became a video game in 1993. Dark Horse Comics, (1992-1994), 13 issues plus adaptation of RoboCop 3. Dynamite Entertainment, (2009-2013), 14 issues. Boom! Studios (2013-2016), 34 issues.
As for the third one just skip it. Also there is Frank Miller's Robocop comic book. The story was made out of unused Robocop 2 script which was at the time unfilmable
Watching Robocop 3 is a must, don't short yourselves or us on viewing it, that way the viewing the remake would be worth it. I think the rollercoaster ride y'all felt on Robocop 2, you'll have that but it'll be much more fun in Robocop 3. Also, quick note on the drug Nuke in Robocop 2, I didn't pick this up before, but it was the action one would take during the commercial for the war board game in the 1st movie.
Fun fact: When RoboCain "broke" the actress' neck, it looked so real when she landed, the entire cast stopped and thought she was really dead. She was perfectly fine, though, as being a dancer made her extremely limber.
I remember reading about that; the cast, crew, and director were alarmed at the way she landed and rushed to see if she was okay because, as you mentioned, they thought she was actually dead. However, she got up and showed that she was perfectly fine LOL!
Also, their freak-out reaction to her landing scared her into thinking that she had actually hurt herself and that's when she go up, kinda panicked herself, to ask where she was injured!
i also heard that when they shot the scene where the arm grabs her, they were wondering how they could get the stop motion effect without her moving. not sure how long they shot the scene, but she didn't move the whole time and got the effect they wanted. she was good.
It changed nothing. They find a solution anyway in the first movie even with the grey finish. They change the color mainly because they wanted a more friendly image, more "toy" appearance for a younger audience.
I read that they tinted it more blue to make him look more "Cop-like," like the blue uniforms most officers wear. No clue how true this is, though. 🤷♂
The blue tint he has makes it look like his armor is blued steel. Bluing is a way of finishing steel that gives it that kind of blue look. You see it a lot in firearms. So I'd argue the blue tint actually makes him look less toy like and a bit less space age.
@Furyswildmeat well that doesn’t contradict what I said. In the first film the camera would keep reflecting the camera so when they had the chance to use the other finish they went for it.
Still better than this movie. Honestly the kid being the drug lord boss and robo 2 being an addict it's dumber than ninja cyborgs and the jetpack from 3.
Yes... you guys NEED to see that. Putting Rocky and Rambo aside, Demolition Man and Cop Land are Stallone's best films (also Lock-Up... a smaller, but strong film)
You guys are right... the script, the 'idea' is much like the original film... BUT, the studio wanted to make it more commercial, flashy and Batman Forever-ish, sell toys to kids etc. etc. After this is Robocop 3 which goes PG-13 (1 and 2 are R) and complete drops the crazy violence, clever 'soul' of the original.
Also Robocop the series live action kids show. Robocop stops crime without actually shooting bad guys its super corny but decent enough to watch. All different actors that are worse but not terrible
Fun facts: Peter actually returned to play Robocop in MK11, and he’s also reprising his role in an upcoming video game that is supposedly either meant to be a direct sequel to 1 or 2. Speaking of sequels, a direct sequel is reportedly in the works, with Peter also returning. Though, who knows if it’s still going to happen, after the writers strike.

Coy you're absolutely right. I had the battle damaged Robocop. You could take off the regular chest plate and helmet and swap them for the ones with the bullet holes. It even had the retractable USB spike thing.
That second RobiCop 2 prototype...when my brother and I first saw this movie as kids, we were screaming with laughter when it took its own helmet off. Glad to see you guys thought it was just as funny as we did.
I loved that the last reaction was nothing but praise and a genuine critique of the themes and world, until the last 30 seconds with Dick falling out the window with “outstretched” arms. Looking forward to this one 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
To those upset about the afamily plot getting concluded, the game coming out Robocop: Rogue City is set after the 2nd movie and supposedly delves much deeper into the murphy family
I was always disappointed that this movie never delved deeper into the subplot with Murphy and his family. But instead it just gets brushed aside for the comic book story of him fighting Cain.
That is true! There was ALOT shoved into this film! And sadly this film never got to explore Murphy, or settle his yearning for his family. Had they placed his wife somewhere after Caine’s Arrest.
When I first saw this movie when it came out in the theater I thought it was alright and nothing special. Over the years I started to appreciate it more as a good solid film. The first one is better but part 2 is a worthy sequel.
I like Robocop 2, it is a worthy sequel without obviously surpassing the original, I compare it in that sense to Predator 2, another one that received mixed reviews, but it was good, it wasn't that bad, it had its good moments.
@@masamune2984 Robocop 3 is much worse in every way, poor script, poor production, the violence was washed out a lot to make a movie for the whole family, the irony no longer exists, at least Robocop 2 tried to maintain all that, that's why For me, despite its flaws, it is still a worthy sequel,
Check out Frank Miller's Robocop comic run (2003) - it was adapted from the original screenplay Miller did for Robocop 2 (there's a lot more of Murphy's family & history)
True. But that’s also the problem with Frank’s script! He doesn’t delve into as much you think and he shoves way too much into the script to where it feels bloated too. It’s certainly not all his fault, it’s clear they had a lot of Ideas for this film that really hurts. But I still love this film!
Despite being dismantled and reprogrammed, the returning cyborg policeman is still more than just the sum of HIS parts, cleaning up and saving the streets of Detroit!!!!!
The villain from this movie was also the villain in "Last Action Hero," with Arnold Schwarzenegger." If any chance you haven't watched it, you really should!
Thought you were confusing the CEO actor with the one who played the mob boss or something at first until I realized you meant Kane and the Raincoat axe man from “Jack Slater 3” in Last Action Hero. 🤷♂️
Yeah, Part 2 isn't on the same level as 1, but it's still a good time and a pretty fun flick overall. Definitely the earliest movie in my memory where it became clear someone stepped in and changed the direction of the plot though. Part 3... honestly it swings into "so bad it's good" territory for me. lmao
So this movie was originally written by frank miller, but many changes were made to make it more adaptable to film. He turned his original script into a comic book that is infamous.
I just love when they say "don't you have bazookas?" to the cops! and I'm like "is it really normal for law enforcement to have anti armored vehicle RPGs made for warfare?!!" :))
Indeed. I don't think police in general need firepower capable of taking down a tank or an armored vehicle as in most Western countries the chances for a cop to run into someone driving these are really small.
@@TheDutchGhost yup, tbh unless a country is in an active full on military coup or civil war, the chance for cops to encounter armored vehicles is close to zero in any country on the globe!
Im the first person you see taking Nuke. The guy with the mohawk right as it fades to the street scene out of the newscast. Shot in Houston November 1989.
Literal spit-take at Greg's Mars Attacks! Martian impression. As for Robocop 3, it's gotta be done to complete the story, or for the sheer pleasure of watching Bradley Whitford, CCH Pounder and Rip Torn if for no other reason. Watching you guys react is pure joy and more so when the movie doesn't quite deliver 🤣
If you guys like Robocop, you should really consider checking out Robot Jox. The setting is completely different, but it has an overall similar feel and tone when it comes to the world. Admittedly, the middle of the movie suffers from a pacing slowdown that hinders it, but overall, it's a lot of fun with some wacky performances.
There are two other movies that are sometimes called sequels: Robot Wars (about the last giant robot being hijacked by bad guys) and Robo Warriors (basically same as Robot Jox but against aliens)
Everything you want to see in a robocop movie like dealing with AI ,humanity, and better effects are done in the robocop remake , I personally luv it and I know alot did not but I honestly think you two will. Give it a shot 😊
Now you have to watch number 3, just so we can see how you react to it. I remember the series being good, but I haven't watched it since it first aired when I was a kid, but Prime Directives is a four part Mini-Series that, while having it's "cheesy" bits; is great. The actor does a great job of portraying Robocop and Murphy (as in he plays pre Robocop Murphy in flashbacks), and it's definitely an experience you won't regret having...
I love this movie, mostly for nostalgic reasons. I have a cousin who lived several states away at the time, but he was able to come over and visit for a week during the summer this movie came out. We were barely teenagers, but we absolutely loved the first Robocop and we convinced our moms to take us to the theater to see this one. At the time, we thought it was amazing, but now looking at it through an adult's perspective, we definitely see the flaws. I think it would've been a lot better if they used the scene with Robocop talking to his former wife and made that the very last scene of the film. And a couple of other tweaks here and there, but I won't get into that here.
i still very weirdly prefer the 2nd to the 1st - possibly because i saw the former first. Was the first time i had seen a movie with this amount of violence and was kinda sensory overload. The warehouse scene where you are introduced to Kane Robocop always scared the hell out of me.
It's not a critique of capitalism but a warning of government corporatism where the corporation buys the government and that not capitalism that's corporate cronyist socialism. Kinda like Amazon controlling most web servers and then essentially becoming a government/corporate entity
At 21:37, the guy says "These are death-row inmates!". The picture on the screen is Irvin Kershner, Director of Empire Strikes Back, Never Say Never Again, and a bunch of other films, including Robocop 2.
Robocop 2 was one of the first R Rated movie that was under heavy scrutiny for a particular reason. critics and parents were under the impression this movie was designed for kids to be able to comfortably watch it and be entertained, they were not impressed by the sizable number of kids swearing and committing crimes in this movie. they also think this is why the violence was considerably toned down compared to the first, there is more humour and the anti-drug message sprinkled throughout courtesy of Reaganomics.
Robocop 2 was a step below the first one, but then they clearly thought they weren't going downhill fast enough and made Robocop 3. I can watch the first two anytime, but damn ... that third one.
33:56 That Terrible CG face WORKED back in the day I remember the first time I saw it our minds were blown it was so "real" keep in mind this is still new we just got 16bit and this guy is pushing an impossible 64 bits and it has 3-axis.
I actually owned a Robocop action figure w/ jetpack and noises 😊 Yeah, I was suckered into the merchandising from the movies 😅 Couldn't find a Clarence Bodicker figure, though 🤔
They never made clarence or Cain and I was always pissed lol.. and i could never find ED209 (260) unfortunately but I had "headhunter" tho whoever the f*ck that is 😂
Awesome to see you guys get excited about this.. when I first saw this as a teenager, Robocop was like the tippy top most anticipated movie.. including the sequels. Well at least the first sequel..
- Watch the reboot before you watch the 3rd one. In fact, don’t watch the 3rd one at all! 😅 It’s not so bad it’s good; it genuinely sullies the first two. - I like how the secret foot clan arcade from TMNT makes its way into this movie 😂 - If you electrocute someone in your car, your car’s gonna smell like ASS for a number of reasons 🤢😄 - Robocop being FORCED to say “I’m free”… it’s HAUNTING. Delisciuos irony… I get why Weller signed up for this sequel. (PS… I typed this last part a MINUTE before Koy said it 😮) - The NOT SMOKING thing WAS a meme if it’s time. Theaters actually used it as a pre-movie PSA - NO way that bartender stunt guy survived 😢
The best of the Robocop sequels. Also it's the final film to be directed by Irwin Kershner (Star Wars:Episode V-The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and the James Bond remake, 'Never Say Never Again' in 1983). Plus it's the first of the 2 sequels with comic industry legend, Frank Miller as screenwriter and he played Cain's head lab scientist. This one really felt like a comic come to life. So many stakes and awesomeness. A lot was cut out of the scripts for the sequels (mostly from Miller). But it was re-utilized in Avatar Press' RoboCop (2003-2006) comic series with Miller's name on it. The Arcade scene had a bunch of games from Data East. Robocop 1 and 2 were made into games by the same company. Robocop 3 is the most hated of the trilogy. Because of it's lowered quality, it feels more like a tv movie than theatrical feature. RIP to Galyn Görg as Angie, Cain's girlfriend.
The only part I didn’t like about this movie is they set up the idea of Robocops identity and feeling human and then kinda just forget about it. You don’t see his wife again and it’s like they forgot half way through the movie what they set up. Also I’m kinda pissed the music is different, I loved the theme from the first film, noticeably absent this film
hardly anybody is watching "wheel of time", but coy seems to be following the trajectory of the lead actor who started as a curly-haired ginger and opted to be a shaved head ginger for the second season. 😄
There is an Adam Savage video where he talks to Phil Tippett the stop motion guy all about Robocop 2 and they had some Cain Robo props there. I love RB2, yeah it doesnt have the 'soul' of RB1 but the Robo carnage is awesome! :D
My personal feelings on each film: Robocop: The near-perfect one Robocop 2: The weird one Robocop 3: The terrible one Robocop Reboot: The forgettable one.
yes, Peter Weller and Nancy Allen returned because of the Frank Millar script but then Orion pictures butchered it going against input from Miller, Kershner and the actors so all of them have distanced themselves from the "finished" product. Frank Miller's original screenplay for RoboCop 2 was turned into a nine-part comic book series titled Frank Miller's RoboCop if you want to see what it was supposed to be.
Robocop 2 wasn't 'that bad', it had some good elements but Robocop basically resetting was an odd move. He'd found his humanity at the end of the first film and in the second they work to strip it away very quickly in the first act. Not a bad movie by any stretch but pales in comparison to the original but the bar was raised impossibly high already so it was always going to be a stretch.
THIS MOVIE ROCKS! Phil Tippett, god bless him, did an outstanding job with the stop motion animation sequences. This was his last film to do stop motion animation as he was hired by Steven Spielberg to do VFX on a little movie called JURASSIC PARK.
You kind of hit the nail on the head when you commented on the fact that this movie was made by a large corporation and the movie is trying to make a statement about how greedy large corporations are greedy plus they were trying to make this statement in a sequel.
SOOOO glad your watching the whole series. People always stop at the first one. The others may not be top tier or deep, but they are still fun to watch. Especially since these felt more like "straight to DVD!" sequels.
Robocop 2 is terrific fun and still all sorts of gory and over the top. 3 is just not good. It has some interesting ideas, but having lost Petter Wellers and the whole PG-13 move just ruined the "feel" of the movie. Of course, having a $15 budget didn't help either lol
I’d actually be really curious to see you guys react to the 2014 RoboCop Remake with Joel Kinnaman lol. I know it’s not as good the original but I remember it having a well known cast and some cool stuff. It also focused a lot more on murphy’s family like what you guys were talking about
Well known cast doesn't mean it's good. Robocop 2014 was crap. I mean it was rated PG 13 for crying out loud and the Robocop movies were always known for being very violent.
I recommend "Interceptor - Phantom der Ewigkeit" English title "The Wraith" with Charlie Sheen and "Mad Max I - III". Tina Turner stars in "Mad Max III - Jenseits der Donnerkuppel (Beyond Thunderdome)" and also contributed the soundtrack with "We don't need another hero".
The first movie was an adult rated film (not for children). The second movie's audience was directed towards teenagers and young adults (still not for children). The third (and yes, it has to be included because it is part of the franchise and not many people love Robocop 3) movie's audience is for kids.
I can’t believe you guys didn’t notice a young Frank Miller writer of the Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, and this movie, as the chemist working for Cain @27:38 and @29:02
I remember seeing Cain's horror stricken face as a metaphor for him going to hell. Just seeing your brain being smashed in front of you, well, he got what he deserved.
I love all the RoboCop stuff even the stuff with extra cheese but if you want more of the Robo and family you'll have to see the live tv show they delve more into that aspect. Great reaction as usual guys. :)
One thing about most reactions on old movies, 90s and prior is that they are being scrutinized with modern eyes, with the modern era, but imagine watching these films in the context of the times they were created, they were literally mind blowing, some called masterpieces. It’s just more than a reaction but more of understanding the film and transporting yourself to those times, only then you will set apart a good critique.
"This is how we got to Trumpism..." No, complete bullshit take. This is the first video of y'all i came across and was enjoying y'alls takes but i'm out. Thankfully you have 1.14m more so you won't even notice anyway.
This movie should have focus on Robocop dealing with the kid and his struggle trying to defeat him with OCP having turned this kid, afterwards, into R2.
I think most Robo fans have held Robocop 2 in high regard. Not quite as high as the first, but still a great sequel. Whatever you do, do not watch part 3! The 2014 remake is easily better than that turd.
I remember one of the reviews at the time declaring it as a ‘Tale of Two Scripts’ , lamenting Frank Miller’s demise as signaling the death knell of the script. Backstory, according to Miller, was a desire to explore Murphy’s relationship with his wife and humanity more and that it was decided to lean so heavily into the ‘comicbooky’ battle of robots.
The different director from part 1 changes the view alot Frank Miller was hired to write Robocop 2 but wanted a darker script but fights with Orion made it difficult to settle on a script. There are Miller elements in this film...mainly in the 2nd half.
Thanks for the reaction. Great video. I enjoyed Robocop 2 back in the day. Even though the first one was a lot darker in tone, more cynical and satirical. They still got some of it here (the commercials for example). This one here had one or two too goofy scenes for me. But overall still a strong sequel. And for the time pretty violent and gory. Tom Noonan for me stole the show, he was great as Cain here. He's also very good in the original "Manhunter" as Francis Dollarhyde.
I just realised how ahead of its time it is "sorry only TV and media" they could put a spin on it while ocp get exposure for "rejuvenating" the city. You had me nodding and laughing along with your critique.😅
You should watch three, it's a crazy roller coaster. They made it PG-13 to sell toys and ended up making a so bad it's funny kind of film...need to watch it to see how far off the first one.
I have fond memories of this movie when I was a kid, Cain robot was so terrified and maybe that distracted me from the rest, RoboCop is a masterpiece and this was really far behind, but I love how you don't hide you didn't like this movie at all, that gave us trust that the other reactions to things you liked were geniune, not just for likes or views.
Growing up, the Cain robot gave me endless nightmares... Like no joke years until i saw Predator and that took over and then an old cheesy horror movie called GRIZZLY.... now that bear messed me up and still today i have vivid memories of the nightmares i had.... i no joke just got goosebumps thinking about it..... god dammit, i bet i'm going to dream about it tonight 🥺
@@republicofcasuals Cain Robot took over the cyborg thing from Superman 3, that thing really gave me nightmares. I remember watching the first appearance of Cain Robot, it was really terrorific, when the girl was touching his arm I was expecting the worst... then it happened, I was trying really hard to look away
@@MarcoBayod_MB Yea that warehouse scene where you first see Cain was the nightmare inducing part and crushing that girl, and why did you have to remind me about Superman 3..... i went a looked at a clip as it's been a very long time since i have seen that and i got instant PTSD.... yea that robot thing haunted me as well. Did you ever watch Labyrinth? I loved that movie but that was full of nightmares as a kid... the hands that make faces and talk when she fell in the hole after going through the wrong door, the Cleaner machine in the tunnel, those red / pink creatures that pull their heads of and throw them around.... I do actually miss being scared of movies now though. The last movie that kind of got me looking over my shoulder was a low budget movie called (It Follows) just a simple idea but i used to have a recurring nightmare where a crocodile would always be following me... Not chasing, but always slowly moving towards me, like i could travel to another country and eventually it would work it's way to me and watching (It Follow) gave me that exact feeling i had as a kid of always looking around every corner and over my shoulder for anyone making eye contact.... if you've seen the movie you know what i'm talking about, if not, maybe check it out. Sorry for the long essay 😁
While not nearly as iconic and gritty as the first one, the movie did hold up decently. The movie is ironic since it is tamer, and that was one of the main things robocop had to deal with. Also yes... I had a battle damaged robocop toy.
