Wow, that is a pretty cool vacuum machine. I just wish that Apple would expand homekit to properly support things like vacuums, stove, microwaves and other appliances natively. It is awesome that this brand has such good Siri shortcut integration (good on this company!) and can be worked around with a HomeBridge plug-in, but Apple needs to step up their game and expand the types of devices that can be used in HK.
I agree, I'd love to see robot vacuums supported natively. Also why I think it's even more important for these brands to add solid support for Siri Shortcuts in the meantime, like this one. Thanks for the comment Gregg!
I just got a Roborock S7 when we moved into our new house and integrated it into HomeKit through Hoobs. So far it’s been great. Wanted the S7 MaxV Ultra but it was out of my budget and the S7 does a really good job. I have it integrated with my scenes when we go to bed to clean our downstairs and it’s been awesome to have.
I have done the same! S7 user here. But I’ve exposed the robot to HomeKit (and everything else in the house) via Home Assistant. Automated vacuum when the last person leaves, and back to the dock when the first person arrives. Wife still hasn’t see the robot this way, and i don’t have to justly the expense! 😂😂
Wow this little robot is amazing! I always thought that Roomba made the best…this has definitely changed my mind. 2 in 1 and it does the emptying too…what’s not to like?
Great video Shane. I can attest to the nightmare of a robot vacuum coming into contact with dog 💩… not a pretty sight, and that’s just the beginning! 😷
That’s a really cool vac, I have a S5 Max and I change the dust bin everyday (there’s a lot of fur from my two dogs around the house), having this huge dust and water bin would help a lot here
Hey @Shane Can you please do an updated video on if there are others in prep for the iOS 18 release? Would love to get your take on some of these new robovacuums before spending that much money. Especially before Prime Day or the holiday season.
The Dreame z10 pro is definitely a better alternative and costs half of the price. It also has object recognition and self empty dock and, even better, supports Valetudo that makes the robot fully local while also supporting this kind of integrations.
It's a cheaper knock-off. Not even close to this vacuum. No auto-lifting mop head, no vibrating mop pad and no self-cleaning mop head. Object recognition is a gimmick and there's not an AI vac on the market that won't drive over a loose liquid shit and drag it all over if you have pets.
I have the s7 with auto empty bin currently downstairs. Going to move it up a floor and put this in my primarily tile first floor. NFC tag idea is very clever.
Lifting the mop is great! My Braava can’t even get itself up onto its charge stand because the mop is in the way! I’d much rather have this than 2 separate iRobot machines for which I paid a lot more.
Hi, Shane Whatley, is a honor to meet you and have the privilege to be able to write to you. I follow your Channel and I’m also subscribe. I see all your videos and they are the best, really useful and really fun. I have a daughter too and thanks to your videos we have a fun time learning about Smart home and Smart ways to use the Smart devices that we get on the Best Buy store. We just saw the video about the roborock s7 maxV ultra and is really impressive what this robot vacuum can do and over 60 videos of robot vacuum I saw, yours provided me the most accurate information on the features I’m looking on a robot vacuum. We really like your videos and if you don’t mind we would like to ask you if you could make, on your future videos, one comparing: the new Ecovac x1 Omni VS the roborock s7 maxV ultra, because I been searching for the best of the best on robot vacuums and Mop and I hear that the Ecovac x1 Omni is a really good options too. I’m still a little confused between those 2 and because of the price on both are pretty high I would like to just acquire 1 for now. I’m wondering witch one should be. I hope I’m not asking for too much and I appreciate a lot your help. Also I hear the NEATSVOR X600 PRO and the DREAME BOT W10 are good to consider and that the Samsung came out with a robot vac call JET BOT AI+ and LG also is on the market with the CORDZERO R9 wifi. We would appreciate to hear your opinion about this robot vacuums I mentioned. I know that there is a lot different types of robot vacuums on the market and a lot different models for each brand, and I’m not gonna seat here and bored you mentioning all of them, but I been making my own search over all of them and I believe that this one’s I mentioned are the only ones that escaped out of the definition regular robot vacuum. We appreciate you for you time and thank you for all the effort every time you make one of this videos to help all of us with this smart and some times complícate devices. 😊
Love it! But you missed one thing - how does it work with different levels in a house? Like we have 2 planes and a office on the side of the house, can you move it around between these spaces and will it still work? Or will it misinterpret different floorplanes and make a miss mash overlay? Pls test and share. Really liked your channel for years - keep it up 👍😊🇸🇪
Thanks for the comment. Good question. You can add multiple maps and can even specify multi-level or single-level maps. So it should be able to handle this no problem.
Automating our robot vacuums has never been a huge selling point for me. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely wouldn’t argue against Apple adding native support for HK, but we don’t have kids or pets so we don’t need ours to run more than once a week or maybe 5 days. I like being able to clear and pick up everything on the floor before the vacuum runs so having it run every time we leave the house just isn’t necessary for us.
Do you have a video on how you made the shortcut for “clean all”. I have each room set but like the option to clean all and not just one room at a time
That is dope! I hope to be able to buy one soon! As always Shane bringing very cool videos with awesome stuff, explained in details but in a simple way! Congrats
Love the channel Just got one, but I don’t seem to find the way to set up the shortcut command in the Roborock App. Can someone go over the steps ? I love that new little robot:)
Hey Shane, in this time im looking for new vacuum, and i will probably buy roborock Q7, and it is my dream to have it integrated in the homekit, and i look into links which you have in this video, and its pissing me that Q7 is not compatible. is there only one way to control it only by using shortcuts ?
Does it have a beater bar? I absolutely loved my S4 but after getting luxury vinyl plank installed; I’ve been told by many not to use any robot vacuum that uses a beater bar, which unfortunately, the S4 has.
On one hand, I couldn't agree more… The AI and technology in this thing is next level for sure! I have been using the S7 MaxV Ultra for a month. What I have found is that its carpet pick up ability is very, very poor. My previous robot vac, which I still have because it works really well after 6 years, is a Neato D3. This is a D shaped robot that has always been really good at cleaning but nowhere near as smart as something like the S7 MaxV Ultra… I have been doing head-to-head comparisons, and the 6 year old Neato is far, far superior at carpet cleaning. Probably picks up 80% more than the S7! I don't think people are noticing just how little this thing picks up because of the self emptying Ultra Dock... At CES 2023 Roborock came out with the S8 and guess what… They now have a completely new TWO roller design Just like the iRobot. I am unfortunately beyond my return date and stuck with an amazing robot vac that can't vacuum, but mops pretty well if I vacuum first with my stick vac!
@ShaneWhatley have you considered using the HOOBS certified plugin Xiaomi Roborok Vacuum Bridge? Looks to have autoroom generation, so no need to manually add. Shows as automatic with the S6 models (testing now), so I suspect fully automatic autoroom generation would take place with your S7.
It’s interesting that these companies are not wanting to integrate to Google Home or Home kit; it practically would benefit with direct UI notifications
Anyone able to comment on how this thing does with Golden Retriever hair? That hair is the ultimate torture test for a vacuum. It brings a Eufy 15C to its knees.
Another great video! Just bought the Ecovacs Omni X1 & I strongly considered buying the Roborock instead. After watching your video, I think I would have been good either way. They are very similar in every aspect. Always fun to have a new cleaning toy! #NeatFreak
I didn't use mine on a second story, so I can't say for sure. But I assume the camera/lidar and AI can detect that, just like it can detect other objects and map a room. Additionally, you can setup invisible walls in the app, which could be another way.
Hey Shane, what are you opinions on smart ranges (oven/cooktops)? I know Samsung makes some that are great - but since we’re all HomeKit users here, have you heard anything about ranges that HomeKit-compatible (probably not) or, at least, Matter-compatible?
Great video, Shane! I have been waiting for the release of the Ultra and this will help me tremendously. Questions: what about electrical cords and what if there’s water on the floor - will the vacuum try to vacuum it up?
Thanks Jim! I didn't test it specifically with electrical cords but in their marketing they show it detecting wires, powerstrips, etc. And mine hasn't sucked up and USB cords yet. The machine learning and obstacle detection is so good that it should recognize the cords and avoid them.
Hell of a video! Thanks and congrats. I’ve been looking at this Roborock for a while now. Are u aware of any project to integrate these vacuums to Homekit some day?
Well you can integrate them now using Homebridge or Hoobs, as shown in the video. But as far as native HomeKit support, that won't happen until either 1.) Apple adds support for robot vacuums in HomeKit (currently they are not a supported device) or 2.) Matter, the new smart home standard actually rolls out and Robot Vacuums become accessible in HomeKit through Matter.
I have an original iRobot and when we were getting our house ready to sell, my puppy was stressed out and had an accident downstairs, in the corner on white carpet. Not knowing she did that, we ran the robot vac and it smeared poop 💩 everywhere! The smell was HORRIBLE. Fast forward we can laugh about it now 🤣.
It's not as straightforward to use Siri Shortcuts with the Mi Home app vs. Roborock app. Here is an article showing how to create Siri Shortcuts with the Mi Home app: homekitnews.com/2018/12/14/using-siri-shortcuts-in-the-mi-home-app/
They were supposed to become available on May 2nd. It appears the dock and vacuum combo is available through their website but with estimated shipment of May 25th. Wondering if they sold out or ran low on stock. Or maybe there is just a delay in the release. I'm not sure
It will lift the mop when it detects a rug, which is one of the features I love. Meaning it can still vacuum the rugs, while mopping the hard floors. Additionally, you can setup no-go zones for areas (like rugs) that you want it to completely avoid.
Hey, great video, how can I have the same shortcut on the Home Screen ? When I try to creat a shortcut who ask me what’s the shortcut I want run be show all the short cut I have. I want he show me only the specific shortcut for the Roborock. Like you have 😆 the same 🥹
