Roborock S8 Pro Ultra on Amazon: geni.us/Nqzo4v Check out our regularly updated Top 20 Best Robot Vacuums list on our website: vacuumwars.com/best-vacuum-cleaners/robot-vacuums/
This channel is second to none. The work you do through summarizing features and extensive real world testing is so appreciated. Thank you, keep up the incredible work!
@vacuumwars Can you post on your website the scores? I am looking for one that has better mop scores but also preferably one with a “bag-less” auto empty bin. On your site now there are a select few that you list specs for.
Was about to upgrade from S7+ to S8U, then I saw a video about Dreame X20 last week. It can extend mops to cover edges and most corners; pretty interesting. Sadly their US variants seem to lag behind by quite some. L10 is similar to S10 overseas, and we don't even get S20 (Pro)/X10/X20. Shipping the G20 (S8U equvilant) overseas is also a viable option, consider it's about $720 not counting shipping. Adding all the cost it's still half the price comparing to S8U. The only down side might be the warranty.
Is the base model still worth it? I don't think I can shell out for Pro Ultra but, yeah... I do wish to get one that comes with emptying station though.
Can you show how the ultra hooks up? Does it need a water supply line? And if so do they make it easy to hook up say to a faucet like that already exists?
In my opinion, after nearly a month with the S7 MaxV Ultra, I don't have a need for the add-on dryer module. Other people may have different needs, though. I only do mopping once a week, so I throw the mop head in the washer when I'm done. I then let it air dry. The mopping pad is so easy to remove and replace. Even if you mop several times a week, the mop can be cleaned in soapy water, rinsed and air dried. From what I've read in various reviews, those who bought the dryer module seem very happy with it. Everyone has different needs.
I agree! It seems most channels will spend 3-5 minutes begging people to subscribe! but with him, at the end of the video he will suggest subscribing if you wanted to!
These things are getting pretty great. I'm hoping the next iteration is designed to potentially connect to a water supply and drain, a la' a washing machine. With additional improvements in battery tech, I could see a not-so-distant future where self-filling and emptying robot vacuums and mops become a home-design consideration alongside the dishwasher or washing machine. Bummer about the lower power and lackluster dual-brush results, but that level of precise detail is exactly why I watch your reviews!
easily DIY to adapt the fresh water and dirty water tanks to do as you are asking. I had to adapt my Breville coffee machine for the exact same thing, plumbed in the water tank to the water line so it self fills, and just plumbed in the drip tray to the sink drain.
@@1989cranston Yes, but your average coffee machine has a water filter. Your roborock station does not. With time, lime will screw up both the station and the robo vacuum. EDIT: spelling
Plausible, though usually the goal with patents is to write exactly how to do something. If you don't do it exactly like the patent, you don't need to worry about the patent. So releasing near the patent expiration should mean they followed the patent... but it was was that bad, then what did they change?
YES. Well, if you care about mopping. I upgraded from N8 pro+ to dreame L10S, and It's a night and day difference when it comes to auto emptying and obstacle avoidance. In the past 2 months I've had the dreame, it got stuck twice (once by tangling up with a sock, once with a curtain) - and I have a messy home, courtesy of 3 cats and a dog. Speaking of, it never failed to auto empty the fur - a recurring problem for me on the N8. Vslam comes in handy with animals too. It's also consistently faster, quieter (now I have the robot set to run mopping&vacuuming cycle daily before my alarm clock), and gets better coverage. If you can find L10S for cheaper than the roborock, get it - It's almost the same vacuum by what I've seen in the review, and at last, a one that I can call perfect. It does what the box says.
I really wish you'd include a test score for getting over door frames (or whatever they are called in English). In Europe, there's a ton of really tall doorframes in older apartments and houses. Some of them being up to 3cm tall, but more often 2cm.
@@cwill2127 actually there's a big difference in how they are handled. My J7+ is able to climb a 3 cm doorframe after I made some minor modifications to the doorframe.
Interesting. I don’t think we have that in the US unless you’re going from a room with carpet to a room with another floor type (like wood) and it’s usually a small metal strip that’s barely noticeable. Why do old building have them over there?
One feature thats important to me is a bagless auto empty dock. I dont want to be stuck in 10 years unable to buy bags because they no longer produce them for that model. And if I was to buy such an expensive item I dont want ongoing 'subscription' costs/additional outlay all the time. Can you please highlight this a little more in the future or with comparison tests. I think one of these robots has this feature but I cant remember which
Buying bags forever is a definite negative. Having allergy problems, though, mean a sealed bag is important to me. I'm hearing that Roborock will be unveiling zippered, cloth bags that are washable and re-usable. Stay tuned!
My floors were mopped just fine with the s7 max v. There's features they removed that I don't like, like the removable mopping tank and the removable mopping plate
@@RubenKelevra well you may not care about the camera but ALOT of other people do. Them removing the camera just PROVES you don't need one in the first place. i still have serious issues with the app on a separate device bceause a smart phone in a SERIOUS security risk as it is. but i can just put it on a tablet and lock the tablet down at least
@@sarahc.3795 On the back. You can physically remove the water tank to refill or replace if needed. Or remove the metal mopping plate to take the mop off to throw it in the wash
One thing to note when comparing the S7 MaxV Ultra to the S8 Pro Ultra is that when you did your navigation tests on the S7, the navigation system probably didn't have the navigation system updates that it now has with the S8. Just something to keep in mind with the software updates that older models have gotten in the time since.
Very surprised about the carpet performance. I thought it was supposed to have more suction power than any previous model? 6000 PA for the S8 , 4200 for the Q7 and 2500 for the S7 ?
Thank you for the great review. I considered both the S8 and the S7 and went with the S7. With a mix of very low pile carpets and wooden floors in our house, the S7 performs great, and the extra cost of the S8 didn't seem justified. Based on the many reviews on RU-vid, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni seemed a great second choice, especially with the much lower price tag. Coming from an S6 that I've used for 3+ years with excellent service, and seeing Roborock's product development helped me decide. The only gripe is there is no warning when the onboard dust bin is full. A drying attachment is available for the S7 for about $100, but since I only mop the entire house once a week, I just remove the mop head, throw it in the washer, and let it air dry. No odor problems. Emptying the dirty water container after a mop job, rinsing it with water and adding a few drops of disinfectant eliminates another source of odor. Based on other reviews, I understood the S8 was better on carpeting, especially in homes with dogs or cats who are always shedding. This review may question that assumption. Since we don't have dogs or cats, that made the S7 a better choice for us. It's a wild market these days with lots of robots out there that do a variety of things. Reviews like this help people choose the model that's best for their needs and that meet their budgets. Thanks again for your hard work and presentation!
I am in the same boat as you , with a house without carpets, so I got the S7 MaxV Ultra.. I bought the drying accessory for the dock, though. It works great!
> Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni seemed a great second choice, especially with the much lower price tag. Compared to the s8 or the s7? I can't find an x1 omni cheaper than an s7 maxv ultra, and honestly I don't find s8 being worth it, seems to not behave that much better than the s7. I'd say skip this one and go for s9 if you are on the fence, I'm looking at s7s for round 800 which seems to be perfect, split it in 4 payments and it's as if you paid a maid to come clean your place in those months, and then she keeps working for "free"
@@user-bl4lf9rg8m If you have carpeting, you may find the S8 performs better with pet hair. I'm also hearing that people who bought the S7 are buying the roller brush for the Roborock Q5. This is a brush roller, unlike the rubber roller that comes with the S7. The brush roller seems to greatly improve the S7s carpet vacuuming ability. As with ANY robot, if you have shedding animals in your home, be sure to check the roller, spinning brush and wheels to avoid hair tangles and poor performance.
I picked one of these up and set it loose just a couple days ago; I'd ordered it long before this video came out in anticipation of it's awesomeness. Mopping is as mentioned, fantastic! Better than my Braava Jet, so I'm glad I can put that thing away! The vacuuming though, to be honest, my previous Neato D10 did a better job in a single pass on hardwood floors. (I have a Roomba S9+ for the carpets upstairs, and it's fantastic too.) The rest of the features blow the poor D10 out of the water though. Only thing I might add is that this robot sure talks alot! Scares my 2-yr-old daughter!
I have a German shepherd. How well does the mop washing/cleaning deal with pet hair?? I have the iRobot vac and mop. And trust me. No matter how “clean” the floor is when the mop goes after the vac. There is pet hair on it. 2:22
This is my first robo vac. I never thought I needed one until I got two golden puppies. I was vacuuming and then mopping daily. Too much! This is such a game changer for me! I take the pups to doggie park and let the robo rock run. When I come home, spotless squeaky clean floor! It’s seriously a must for people with long hair dogs. I got the bundle and keep the stick one in my bedroom, and my only confusion with that is it says to unlock to self clean? Thank you for educating me on this vac. ❤
Sad to hear about the lack of power.. do you think it’s something that could be changed with an additional power setting as a software update even if battery life suffers? Maybe they handicapped it because power was draining too quickly?
I am a HUGE Roborock fan.I have had an S5 max for years and love it. With that being said I cannot being myself to spend $1,600 on a. Vacuum. That is insane. And I say this as someone that can easily afford it. I just choose not to.
Hi! Thank you for the review and great job as always! I'm torn by this video because now, I'm contemplating on whether I should still splurge on the S8 Pro Ultra or save some money and get a decently discounted S7 MaxV Ultra? I was hoping for an all out knockout with the S8 but with the low carpet deep clean score and crevice pickup, I'm wondering if I should get it. Do you think they can fix this with a software update that improves suction? Or maybe we now need to run the robot on higher suction power to assist with the pickup? Please do a follow up video about this; I hope you'll do more tests and investigation on it. Maybe Roborock can help answer some questions too. I'll wait for a followup before pulling the trigger on the S7 MaxV Ultra
I feel exactly the same!! I watched the video anticipating it to only reaffirm what I want which is to buy the S8 but now I’m think about going for the S7!!
I highly doubt that the carpet deep cleaning and crevice pickup results were due to operator error. You're a pro! Super disappointing that the dual roller wasn't the smoking gun to overtake iRobot for carpet cleaning. I certainly hoped it'd be. I'll stick with my S7 & S7 MaxV for now
I’ve bought three shark vac types based on his review and they are spot on. He does summarize in detail about the pros and cons and budget of vaccum models and is on point. I just can’t see myself paying over $1,000 for a robot vacuum that is not perfect. Especially, if it is weaker in suction than the Roborock Ultra S7. Shark tends to be 1-2 year behind technology improvement features compared to Roborock but their price point is a lot wallet friendlier.
Nice video as always! Theorising why it didn't impress you when it comes to the crevices and sand - I imagine that the much larger aperture for the dual rollers would decrease the floor pressure of the suction. I think the dual rollers are better for hair and dust/fluff/lint than the S7 MaxV which I found struggled with the standard brush for some pet owners. Keep up the good work!
I was waiting for this one! I was wondering if you performed your hair tangle tests on this one like you used to do? Since we have had a change to dual brush rollers - I am wondering how this one handles pet hair? You briefly mentioned it that it was a bit dissapointing and showed a clip of some hair in the brushes.. but you didn't really elaborate?
I looked forward to dual brush so much and waited until s8 is released but im so disappointed with their power :( if s7maxV ultra and s8pro ultra were the same price, which one would you recommend to buy? What would be a reason to buy s8pro instead of s7maxV if there is any? (Except for mopping function (i dont use mopping))
I own the S7. Its biggest disadvantage for sure is obstacle avoidance, it does make many mistakes there (this is my first robo vac, im sure its better than others). Any improvements in that area i think are worth it
Great review as always. Have you noticed significant difference in mopping tests compared to S7 MaxV? Do you have any scoring system for mopping, if yes, what are the scores of both S8 Pro & S7 MaxV? Thank you! :)
So the S8 has a significant amount more suction but either through faulty parts or because of the dual roller creating a bigger space to such through, it ends up having worse pickup ability… kinda disappointing of roborock
Having lower suction and lower battery range than last year model makes me think it MIGHT be somehow related to a slightly lower quality battery, or even a defective one. This is a hopeful thought, supposing roborock would have no reason to release a product that has lower performances than its predecessor
Check out other reviews of the SP8U. They all say the SP8U has better battery range than the S7MaxV, and that it also charges much faster (30%?) than the S7MaxV.
This isn't the successor to the S7 MaxV, it's the successor to the S7 Pro, and it blows the S7 Pro out of the water. The MaxV line is a completely different range of products.
You need to do a review of the just announced S8 MaxV Ultra asap :-) I really like the Ultra Dock, and they're claiming an incredible 10,000Pa suction, and 20mm mop lift height. It sounds great, but I'm waiting for your review before purchasing.
I stopped thinking about this channel as a RU-vid channel awhile ago. Now it's just my own personal standards and testing lab for vacuums... Sort of like UL but without horrible invoice controls because I don't pay you directly.
Take notes Vacuum War Vetrans. This will most likely be another commander unit. We will need to train all the new troops on how to fight these new deadly machines.
I think that you should do the Navigational and Obstacle Avoidance Test on carpet as well, because obstacle detection might be harder on carpet? Great video by the way!
Can you do a review of the NEW S7 Max Ultra vs. the old S7MaxV Ultra and the new S8 Pro Ultra? I think the new S7 Max Ultra has the best of both worlds, the best features of both S7 MaxV and the S8 Pro. Thanks.
The removal of the camera is a big turnoff for me. I would have loved to use it as a quasi security dog and do security sweeps of the house while I'm away.
Nice review as always :) what about hair Tangles with this new dual brush on this vacume? Would be really cool if you can do an episode on robot vacuums just for hard floors.
Cheers for the video, a lot of us are going, S8 ultra or S7 Maxv? Would you be able to do a video to compare both and not just what is better or worst but what feature are missing on the S7 compared to the S8 in the app e.g. the one way mopping, think this could really help us sitting on the fence with which one to buy. Another thing I was wondering is, do features get added with Roborock, eg do you think the S7 one way mop will be added or does Roborock not tend to do this as a company.
HOLY SHIT. We are in the future. When you show it with fast pace video it’s scary how precise it is like there’s a ghost maid nanny invisibly controlling it
wow what was that AI art at the end there. The S8 Pro Ultra transforming gradually into more and more futuristic designs? it definitely got pretty steam punk and/or star wars-y towards the end there. I really loved the S7 Ultra and now the S8 pro Ultra just makes me want it even more, but I simply cannot get myself to pay $1000+ on a robot vac. I currently have the Shark IQ+ and the terrible last gen navigation bugs me a lot. Maybe if shark comes out with a mopping vac with a dock that cleans the mop at the $599 price range, I might go for it.
I have one of "those friends", you know, the pretentious yuppie "sheeple" who would be at the front of the long lines on launch day so they could buy the newest model and say in their latest selfie: "Guess who got the newest iPhone~!" For the past sixteen years, he would tell me the ungodly amount of money ($900-$1500) he spent(/wasted) on getting the newest top-rated robot vacuum and would make me sit and watch as yet another year's model would scattered rice to the wind and left a wake of Cheerios. And I would always look back at my same $120 Shark Navigator that picked up more fine powder than the human eye could perceive and asked myself "Why the heck does he keep doing this? I always see these stupid vacuums circling around his flat, but I'm always stepping on crumbs around his place. He spends thousands on worthless plastic toy cars." This year however he's complaining that his money's gotten oddly tight and he may have to skip out on upgrading, and I'm thinking to myself, "Huh, the year robot vacuums finally seem to perform a decent job performing their actual function and he can't afford it... Maybe this will be the year roles finally reverse at the New Year's party. 😈 -Hey pal, check out *my* new robot vacuum. And with the savings of holding out for so long for the industry to mature, over there is also my robot lawn mower, and my automated pet feeder, and automated odorless litter scooper, and medical-grade air purifier, and automated lighting system, and self-optimizing HVAC, and security system with facial-recognition, and water-filtration system with alkalinity control, and tankless water heater, and central PA system, and my solar power battery backups, and it all connects with my Google Pixel... How are your sixteen obsolete robot vacuums and iPhones treating you?"
These things are a bust after awhile: the reality is there’s so many bugs and maintenance involved keeping this thing clean. It’s a waste of time, I could’ve vacuumed quick with a cordless dyson and be done in a few minutes.
to stay on the carpet better, without a doubt the solution is to place two mops, a smooth rubber one on the front to catch most of the hair and put another mop like the conventional ones, it doesn't make sense to put two identical mops, or put a mop with a brush and the system When turning, cut the hair.
I think it failed in deep carpet cleaning because dual roller system has much more surface. And becuse of that, rollers arent pushed to the ground with enough force.
@@MandrakeRoomba yea they are not XDD do you have any robot? and how you imaginating it could vaccum not touching the surface and still vaccum well with 5000 mAh battery? on my carpet roborock is arranging all the carpet hair in it roller rotating way, that way u can see the whole path and that it didnt missed anything.
It looks like the same problem I have with S7 MaxV Ultra, is going to be on this new vacuum. I never refill the water tank on the vacuum on my own, because it auto fills it, but today, I was looking at the cashback offer, and cleaning it up for pictures, and there is brown build up or mold/mildew in the tank! So I have been cleaning my floors with dirty water! gross! I have found the same brown mildew in my clean water tank too, but Today is the first time I even looked at the vacuum's water tank. Please come out with a better solution to add to the Roborock products! It says you are only allowed to use Roborock cleaning solution, so now I don't know what to do!
Nah, I've had a ton of Roborocks and they got worse not better. Yes they got more features, and more pumps and bigger home stations but at the same time they got dumb, buggy and blind. They keep crashing, keep hanging on invisible edges, keep ruining the map. The problems of the early days of vacuum cleaners are back with the new roborock series.
So let me get this strait it’s a few stupid customers that decided the camera wouldn’t work as a mobile security camera? Wow… that’s literally one of the best and I even asked support if there was a way to add it
2:20 when are they going to have a robot vacuum that can empty all of this into the drain in our house, and fill up new water from the water line?! It would be completely hands-free
What about pet hair? I have a mini Australian shepherd and with her 2 shedding seasons both 6 months long. I would like to know how to deals with alot of pet hair!
It's very interesting, as I think this is the only RU-vid review where the carpet deep clean test was worse than the S7MaxV. All of the other reviews found the S8PU is better on carpet but worse on hard floors.
This review honestly seems like the outlier review. They may have a defective unit. Everyone else has had no complaints about the suction power or battery life. Id definitely like for them to exchange the white one for the black one since iirc the white ones on the s7 line had issues.
From the many reviews I've seen, I agree with you. The S8 was highly recommended for homes with higher pile carpeting and/or shedding pets. The S7 was considered superior when it came to hard surface floors.
Great review, it's not the results I was hoping for. I waa missing some information about the lack of camera and do you think a maxV version is around the corner.
Why would irobot not renew the patent for dual brush system ?! It is their only saving grace. I dont want to get chinese bot but it does everything better than irobot...
