Filmed in early March 2020. Have you ever wondered how a robot could milk cows? I was looking on the internet and youtube this last while and it was difficult to find an honest opinion of someone running a robotic milking system without a sales rep standing beside them. Hopefully, you are more informed about how the system works and some routine maintenance on a robot. This is not paid sponsorship this is just an honest opinion from a young farmer, enthusiastic about his system. If you would like to know more about the system or the grass management in another video let me down below. Hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.

What would the maximum number of cows he could milk after expanding? Would be good to see what he has had to do to make the farm ready for robots and what the future plans are.

There is a bay for another robot , the lely lads in mullingar designed that shed for 2 robots and as far as i know its around 60 cows per robot like so the system is built for 120cows. Yep there savage points , ill deffo do a video on that stuff cillian , thanks for that Cillian

Whats going through a dairy farmers mind after he shells out 300k for a number of robots, another 300k for a building, auto scrapers, cubicles, crush and handling yard, another 300k for extra heifers and a bit of extra ground next door + grass he is already renting......then to see his fellow British and American farmers dumping milk as domestic and international dairy markets crash, on top of unpredictable weather patterns like 2012,13,18,winter 19 etc, and a very possible WTO brexit after December 2020??

@@simplyagri5191 Don't worry, We put in our new robots in 2009 in Australia. As soon as we put the first cow in, the milk price collapsed and has taken ten years to recover. The robots were the only way we could survive because I was able to work a second job instead of taking wages. Now I will be able to buy the farm of the old man. Hang in there. P.s get onto Lely about adding manual connection, would make life a bit easier.

The price of fertiliser, feed etc going up and the price of a litre of milk going down. The problem with equipment is it needs constant supervision and maintenance.

To be honest you do seem hands and willing to learn about the robot and that is necessary in order to keep things running smoothly as one cannot be calling out technicians all the time. I have heard horror stories about robots with regards to call outs and cows left there without being milked. It's serious technology.

Gman Paddy. Yea , im doing exams for the next 2 weeks but after that ill be back out and ill try cover that aspect of robots for you and get the boys opnion. Honeslty my opnion is your a lucky man that u havnt spent the money because for the next 2 years until this virus is a thing of the past ,dairying will be stop start with tight margins for the men who have pumped money into the job. Ill try do some investigation into financing of robots , i could be wrong but i think if u take the minimum salary for your self like 10 to 15 grand a year , with 60 cows you should have a robot payed off in 3 years. Thanks the comment Paddy

For the ones it doesn’t get on (like the ones with weird udders and heifers with small teats) that you had to hold on. Does that mean you’d have to be around every day of the week to make sure all get milked?

The robot takes images of the udders when entering for the first time. So robot knows where the udders are and how big they are.
