It's very awkward to call a tornado a thing of beauty, however in this video I can't help but to admire the true might of mother nature. Incredible footage !
What are the chances that a massive tornado happens to touch down in your area and the fact that you happen to live in wide open, unobstructed rural farmland allowing you to watch it pass by from a distance far enough to not be threatened by it. And even if it changed course and decided to barrel right your direction you'd still have plenty of time to get out of it's way. I mean this is the perfect spot!
It was incredible how stable the structure of the tornado stayed. So many of the large, violent tornadoes are erratically structured fluctuating in size with sub-vortices twisting around everywhere (which is also cool to look at.) Great footage
Just for scale, the farm in the foreground is exactly halfway to the center of the tornado. The Twister is 1.6 miles away and the farm is 3/4ths of a mile away.
I know you were glad to see that thing go on by! Hope your friends and loved ones were all ok. That was a bad tornado! I don't know why youtube just now started allowing me to see anything other than the most popular tornado vids, but I have seen a bunch lately, that I never saw before!
The best video of this monster by far. Steady camera, calm, no talking, perfect setting. Unfortunately areas were getting hit around this time, so that dims the mood. The zoom in showed the violent motion, plus the width
Life-saving tip: Don't go outside when there is a tornado. And if you're outside, just get away from it in general and seek shelter instead of staying outside. Optionally, keep low to the ground (not to sure about the last one, but I think it helps keep your ground).
the fact that one of the most impressive tornadoes every filmed is on a channel with 90 subs speaks to how amazing weather actually is. anyone can participate!
I was actually near Rochelle when I was 6, we were going to one of my relatives houses there, and then the tornado warning started alerting us on the TV, then we stayed in the basement for about 45-50 minutes. It was a scary experience for me
@@drxm. My comment was referencing the assigned windspeed. It was an EF4 at 200 MPH. EF5's start at 201 mph. The EF scale uses both damage indicators AND windspeed. Tornados have been rated less due to debris doing the damage for instance. For this tornado, the damage was severe enough to warrant a 200 mph rating, so... maybe that clears up some questions you may have had about my comment or the rather confusing EF scale you might have had.
Excellent video! ^_^ If I recall correctly, this is the same tornado that Clem Schultz captured on video, destroyed his house & neighborhood, & took the lives of his wife & next-door neighbor.
@@rawfoodwriter this tornado travelled 30.14 miles in 41 minutes. Assuming it’s speed remained around the same the entire time it was on the ground it was going roughly 44 mph.
What a terrifying and beautiful site of nature on display here. Hopefully people were okay! I am a tornado freak but I understand how deadly they can be. A mysterious wonder
Great video of a monster killer tornado. Out of curiosity, is that a bass pond you have in your yard? Congratulations on the video & not getting impacted by that monster.
Nice video! I drove through there a week later. There was still debris laying by the road. I remember seeing the top 2 ft of a power pole with some things still attached laying by the road where there were no poles around. Can’t believe anything would have enough power to snap the end off like that unless it hit something else and then blew over there.
I remember this tornado because it skipped my town, Woodstock, IL. I just remember the weather reports saying to tornado spotted in your area, seek cover NOW!! Very scary!!
It's scary that this tornado occurred on my birthday and in the same state that I was born in and now I feel uncomfortable when seeing that beast going over my state
My husband’s car got dinged up pretty bad by the hail from that storm 😬. We had just moved from McHenry county to DeKalb so half of our garage was filled with boxes to be unpacked.
It’s odd that such a strong tornado is so beautiful. In most videos of tornadoes this strength they’re just messy blobs. Borderline ef5 and it’s this beautiful. Not many ef5s are this pretty.
Hey Tornado Rochelle il, do you have an email address at which we could contact you regarding this video? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible? (i.e. via email) :) Cheers, Felix
I remember witnessing this on our way home to Wisconsin after working in Illinois all week. Watched it form and move across Rochelle and then the highway way. I have never seen the sky so black after it had passed
Clem Schulz. Very famous video. Sent his wife to their basement for her safety, but the brick chimney fell on her and killed her. Clem was healing from a leg injury and couldn't move. He was interviewed maybe 4-5 years ago and was alive and OK at that time.
wow! good job filming and u have a lovely home. God bless Rochelle and the surrounding areas during this difficult time of putting their lives back together! have faith in God ya'll. that tornado was massive !
Even with how bad it was...people were probably lucky that day. It just clipped Rochelle, it didn't hit the heart of the city. Rochelle is only 10,000 people, but it has a major railroad terminal there and a major railroad tourist attraction that is quite busy, especially that time of year. It was bad, but it could've been even worse when I look back on it.
WOW, good job calling your neighbor's!! I watch so many videos n people say, oh it looks like it's gonna hit Harold's house, n then do nothing.. Finally someone did something!! Great footage and good guy!! 😘
Wow! It's like the power of God is in that tornado. Good gracious how you stood there so calmly recording that beast. I call you BOS. Lol. Glad you and your family were safe. Happy New Year!🧚♂️
