Hi Geoff…….ah this takes me back to my childhood too 🥰 baking these with my mum (I’m 51 now) when I was little……I’ll definitely make these ones, the mixed spice and nutmeg sound lovely..…..I remember when mum made them, she’d let them sit about 5 minutes from the oven, gently slice them in half and slather them with lots of butter! It wasn’t margarine, mum and dad called it BEST butter and because the rock cake was still quite warm, all the butter would melt and soak in - delicious - thank you Geoff, not just for another great tutorial, you’ve genuinely just brought back to me some wonderful childhood memories…..hope you’re well…..lots of love Jan xx❤xx

Hi GEOFF... you take me back to grannies kitchen I'm very young @helping her......we are making afternoon tea cakes and rock cakes were always one of my favorites as she would let me do the whole thing... I love Rock Cakes, a childhood favourite to eat and cook! Thank you Geoff 👏 Heads up, the printed recipe on your blog says 2 tbsp baking powder. You say ‘2 teaspoons’ baking powder in your video. Pretty sure it’s teaspoons. Tablespoons would make them inedible.

I am glad this brought back some memories of baking with granny. It has been raining all day, but seems to have eased off now and the temperature has risen to a balmy 16C.
Hello Geoff the rock cakes are a real favourite l make them sometimes and l use a ice cream scoop ( a round one that has the bar in) to measure and dispense them out on my tray it keeps them equal sizes although you have rather round rock cakes😅 they still taste lovely though 😊❤all the best and thank you

9could I make these without the fruit? If so, would I have to adapt the recipe or keep the other ingredients the same? My mother's favourite cakes these are so I was hoping to cook up a batch for her but my father not too keen on the fruit
Hi Kelly. Yes you can just leave out the fruit and everything will be fine. However, since your mother enjoys them with fruit you could make the batter and take out half and then stir fruit into the other half.
12.5 tablespoons of butter?? How on earth do these poor Americans measure *that* out accurately? 😲 Why don’t they just get some scales? Seriously. They cost about £2 in a supermarket.
