Hi Jeff, Thanks again for the videos. I'm in the process of making an impact mill myself. One question I have been struggling with is the output screen. If I want 50 mesh coming out does my screen need to have 50 mesh holes? When you say yours is putting out -50 mesh dust, is that the average size, or is that what your screen will allow. I don't know how to get a 50 mesh screen that would have any strength to withstand the rocks hitting it. I can get 1/8" or 1/16" punch plate easy enough.

Wow, I didn't know you were a mechanic?! My dad owns an 8 bay tire shop and we do a lot of wrench turning. But, I have never seen so many books on different cars and parts until the video started. I am a newbie gold prospector if I am qualified for that level yet!! I have panned about 10 pans and zero yellow yet, well, I have had plenty of yellow mini pebbles in my pan. It is very frustrating but I will not give up! I have just the bare minimum tools so far but I enjoy being in a creek panning. I hope to have a mine lab gold monster 1000 soon. It is difficult to find gold without one! Anyway, it is cool that we have a few things in common. I changed the big rig truck and farm tires for 20 years and it broke my body down so now I have a ton of free time. I need some help first off with just knowing the names of the rocks and different ways they mix so I can find good rocks to crush and not waste time on junk rocks. Oh, My dad was born in Arizona I think. Not sure that is your home state or not but we also share the same great last name 😀! Could you please point me in the right direction of a book or website that gives really good pictures so I may learn faster?? I know a lot more already then I would have by watching your videos but that is not saying much for me. I never panned before the end of last week. I basically went and bought the Garrett kit with a half inch classifier and 2 pans. I am getting use to panning itself but I am sure to learn much more and develop my own style. I know you say go where mining has already happened. But, I have a creek running through my land and I wanted to make this my training grounds. A friend of mine assures me that gold has been panned on down the road from me on his land. I am just learning the ropes of where to look. There was a huge flood last year and it washed 15ft high place out of my bank and the water went very high on the land near the creek. I am not sure if I should pan where the water maxed or stay near the bedrock? Any help will be much appreciated!!! I hope to find some yellow shiny in my pan today!! And yeah, I'm gonna get wet! Sorry for the massive comment but I have watched soo many videos that I feel like I have known you for years! Once I learn the ropes I hope to come out and spend 3 days learning more!! I hope to get an ounce of gold this year to complete a goal. I may set it higher and so on because I already love the hunt for gold!

I thought I was being clever an built a hand unit out of galvanized pipe. You know - Tin can get you pretty excited until you figure out that it's the galvanizing coming off. Your device looks to work a lot better than the hand unit I built (3 " black iron [now] with a 1-1/2" pestle). It works but not without some sweat! Good job - especially pointing out a different screen location and rock feed design details.

Hi again Jeff Thanks so much for posting this video. I followed your example and built one very similar. My first trip was very encouraging and I am looking forward to more. My next question is do you use a spiral wheel or a shaker table to clean your crushed ore? The crusher does a great job breaking down the ore but there is a lot of it to process. Just wonder what you advise please?

Hey Doc see you've scaling-up your impacter from the baby mill you had before... NICE job too! If your anything like me you'll soon realize you also need a jaw crusher & ball mill or the processing gets bottlenecked something fierce. If you run that baby dry get yourself a cyclone dust separator system for your shop vacuum or expect to stop & clean filters every 3 to 5 mins. Using it wet can rot the metal/make issues with second grinds or sieving. Just what the doctor ordered though;)

Hi Jeff, A question... When you said you would put the out-port for your crusher-pulverizer "on the side next time" did you mean higher up on the curve where rock would not accumulate -or- did you mean that the best design is on the perpendicular side, the side with the bearing mounts? Thanks.

Jeff, Good solid design. I think you are correct with the outlet being up the side further would beneficial. My friends just bought a "hobby" gold, lead & silver mine, so we are going to build a crusher similar to your design, except gas or diesel powered. However, our design will put an output hose into a bucket with water in it to reduce the dust particles. A bit more messy maybe, but silicosis can be fatal. Even with NIOSH approved safety equipment there is no reason to take chances. I have had 2 in my family die from dust inhalation. Paranoid? Yes,. indeed. The way you have the input tube designed is vastly superior to a couple of designs I have seen on RU-vid. I saw rocks come flying out of their crushers feed pipe on the videos. "Do not look into feed tube on rock crusher with remaining eye".

Well, that would explain it. Hows it going? Where are you located? (state). I'm in Nevada, got my Garrett Gold Pan Kit on its way, should have it in a day or two. Thanks for the great videos.

Hi Jeff, did you ever make a follow up vid on the build? Did that work out better moving the output to the side? Season starts this month and will try to send you coffee. Thank you for taking the time to reply

Wow looks like you got a little bit of work and money in that. I hope you run a lot of rocks through it and get your efforts back and more. Gold just keeps going up. Hey I was wondering do you ever find silver?

Quartz with gold in it takes many appearances. I found a rich lode with no visible gold that assays up to 3 oz./ton with 5/8 oz./ton being the low end. Generally, quartz with gold is dirty not snow white; brown, black, rose, grey are inviting colors on the rock. Also, sugar quartz is good, crumbly quartz is good. Have it assayed or learn to assay.

Jeff, how long would it last in the field? eventually the inner wall will be hammered and decreased, so after how many tons I'll be in need to reconstruct?

I am building a brand new one as we speak, it's 20 inches around drum and 14 inches long, 4 inch feed sitting on 3 inch square tubing, I am about to make my shaft that holds the chain the problem I see or maybe it's not a problem looking at yours is it looks like it would be out of balance and wondering if I should quad the shaft then just having the 2 chain holders you have there, do you have problems with noise shake and vibrations other than normal chain noise ? Going to be doing the shaft tomorrow so any help would be appreciated tonight if possible from you or anyone who has built one

Jeff are you getting a bigger budget for your videos? They keep getting more entertaining(intro) and educational. My cousin and I were talking about buying or building one our self, thanks Chris

Jeff i am planning on putting the exit port on the side. But wouldn't that damage it more from rocks constantly hitting it trying to get out? Thank you.
