Rock Hopping For Bass, Roanoke river, Floating Gaston to Weldon Boat Ramp, Largemouth & Spotted bass

I see this every year. That is such a a good place for stripers. The boats & bank fisherman want to use it. I would like to fish there also, but There is only so much room. When the water drops next week, no boats can get there, it's too shallow. The week days are the best time. The biggest fish I've seen caught came from the other side of the river.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. They were sitting right in the calm part between the two rapids. I normally cast all the way over to the far rapid and work the bait back to the rock. When I seen those boats there 2 days ago I turned around and went to Gaston tore up the spotted bass. I couldn’t catch a striper because of the spotted bass were on that white and chartreuse “the mayor” by rapala. I’ve caught many striper on that bait. All super small probably the biggest one was 20 inches. Back to the people on the boats. I don’t understand why they put their boat in when they can easily cast from the bank to that spot. One boat had some old heads in the boat. They were right to the left of the big rapid pitching the bait maybe 10 feet from the boat sitting right where I couldn’t cast in mg favorite spot because they were quite literally anchored on top. I didn’t say anything because they were some old fellas and I didn’t see them catch anything. They weren’t there long but they seen me on the rock and still pulled right up there. People don’t understand ethics any longer I expected the old dues to give me some room but he went up the main rapid dropped his anchor right at the end of the white water and drifted back. They knew they were in the wrong because they didn’t say anything or even act knowledge me. I wish I wasn’t so nice to people sometimes because they’ll sure as hell take advantage of it.

@@willbutler2639 The Rapids on the Other side are just as good if not better. When the water drops most big boats will leave.

I know they are lots in Gaston lake, so they are in RR lake also. NC Wildlife Guy told me to Keep taking them out of the River. No limit.

There are some up there I see them hitting shad. But this spring they seem to stop at Weldon.. I'm hoping it will pick up. The biggest fish I caught last year were in July August & September.

Hey nice video Jeff. Good to see you on the water. We talked to you early that morning at 48 bridge. We ended up with 1 striper on top and a few largemouth on top at the gasline. Missed a couple blowups too on top. Keep em coming and we'll see you next time. ✌

Not much rain in sight. They are going to have to drop the water soon.

There are some big cats in the Roanoke river. The 7-10 lb are perfect fillet size. I was in a striper hole using a striper swim shad. So I was disappointed to see a cat.

I'm pretty sure they will attack anything moving on the surface.
