THE LAST HOLDOUT" ON THE ROANOKE RIVER... OVER 40 YEARS OF FLOATING & FISHING THE ROANOKE FROM GASTON TO WELDON, NORTH CAROLINA, "THE ROCKFISH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD"
What's up Mr Jeff this Richard again was there Sunday morning caught 2 stripers biggest was 28 inches then we caught 2 6 pound large mouth in tail race
@@TheALBIECHASER The Guy I Talked to on a Different video. Best I can tell He Entered Near "Becker Farms". He had to Cut thru someone's Yard. You can wade out under Gaston Bridge on the Boat ramp side.
@@TheALBIECHASER That guy entered at CANAL WALK SUBDIVISION" I just googled it. The map shows a access to get to the Canal Trial" It's off "Old Farm Road" that cuts thru Becker farms. Looks like Public land to me. Google Canal walk SUBDIVISION/ Roanoke rapids NC.
I do know about the chemical fire in South hill. Most of the run off went in Mountain creek. That creek leads to the Meherrin River. Some run off went to Gaston lake. I have been watching for fish kills & chemical smells. I also waded in the river. I think we dodged a bullet. The river is good.
Great video Jeff and that was an awesome fish. The tsunami poppers came yesterday and my cane Walkers are coming. How the water level? I am going to try Gaston tonight both sides
@@Bowdoc64 River is low till 7 pm. This weekend it will stay at 2400cfm. You need the low water. I tried the spot above the bridge with No Strikes at all. They were behind the pylons. I caught another fish over 30 inches, that did not record. I also caught 2 bass in front of the point on the Gaston ramp side. Near the canal
What's up Mr Jeff this Richard Timberlake i was up there morning of july the 6 we caught 2 that where over 36 inches caught some bass to behind bridge i found out that there is more fish in front of paper mill before u get in shallow water
@@leighpope2902 if you still want cane Walkers they have them directly from Barkley for 10 bucks a piece. Mine will be here tomorrow. They have the regular and salt water
@@jefftiz1 I have a 14 foot john boat with a 25 hp motor and a 40 lb trolling motor onit and i was trying to find out if there is any way i can fish that area. I figured you would know
@@garywoodlief1976 Yes. You can fish under & around Gaston bridge using only the trolling motor. You need to check the RR Dam Schedule for river levels. This day it was 2400cfm. In front of the paper mill, you will need that 25 HP motor to come back up stream. It is 3-4 feet deep. Just go slow.
Jeff it’s so hard to find cane walkers in town right now (found 1 at drugco in RR) I was able to get some from tackle warehouse online. Try that maybe you can get the patterns you like the most. Thanks for all your great videos Jeff
The single hook rule stinks for bass fisherman and rockfish season was closed so I don’t get it plus it has to be a barbless single hook. Great video as always Jeff👍
@@bidenhasdementia8657 There is good fishing in front of the paper mill. But i Don't fish it much because of the Noise, sounds horrible on the camera. I will try my luck in the morning.
Great video. Cool fish. I fished the rocks last night. Slow I don't think I say any caught. I fished the ramp this morning and saw one small on caught on the rocks super skow
@@jefftiz1 it was just right last night I thought it was coming up but it was actually low low this morning. Lower then last night. I might hit Gaston tonight
Hey Jeff been watching your videos the last 4-5 months and enjoy them. You said it was to hot to float to weldon ... Question - can your boat make it back easily to the ramp at Gaston Bridge with your trolling motor? also when your down river from the bridge can you make it back up stream to the Gaston Bridge? Take care
Once you start down river, You can't come back upstream with Paddles or Trolling motor. Even a outboard motor is not much help when the river is low, like this time of Year. You are committed to float the 8 miles to Weldon Bridge to take out. Takes about 6-7 hours while fishing. However, You can fish under the Gaston bridge & catch Striper & bass without having someone to pick you up at Weldon. Like I did in this Video. It can also be fished from the bank, while wading out. I do recommend floating to Weldon. Not many people do & That's why there are Lots of fish there. No Pressure". I've been fishing that stretch of river for 40 years, and I am always amazed. You can also Camp on the Many islands that are there. Free. Hope this helps. Thanks!
@@TheALBIECHASER I have flipped over 3 times there when I was young. One time I was in front of it & Changed my mind, spun the boat around, & tried to abort. The Flow sucked me thru Backwards"! I made it, boat full of water. Too much beer.
Single hook for now, but This Monday July 1st. Treble hooks are Legal. I use a 5 inch Berkley "Cane Walker for stripers. The Whopper plopper is Great for Bass.
You don't have to float to Weldon to catch Stripers. You can paddle out 100 yards under The Gaston bridge. Check out my last video "Gaston bridge Rockfish".
2800 is Perfect flow to float to Weldon. But this heat is too much for me. Starting Monday Treble hooks are legal & The temp should drop some. There are plenty Rockfish still here. Early morning & late evening.. The white Whopper plopper 90 mm size is deadly for bass on the Roanoke, but I can't use it till Monday. Thanks✌️
Im on the other side of the dam, at roanoke rapids lake. Is there good fishing over there? Is there a way to get past the dam to get to lake gaston in my boat?
What up Mr jeff this Richard Timberlake tore the fish up of rocks Saturday morning the 15 over 70 striper and 5 bass and I caught my biggest this year 39 inch striper on top water
I caught 3 fish in front of them. You can fish the water at the paper mill @4000. The only reason I don't fish close to the mill is the noise sounds bad on the camera.
