I appreciate your review of stone paper. For fountain pens it seems more like micro mesh paper, something I may use for nibs that need a bit of grind or smoothing. But for everyday use, maybe not so much. Dry times are horrible. Still it looks good maybe for a ballpoint? I am also left-handed. I would worry about smearing from my hand.

I know the paper being grippy seems bad but for people like me with tremors it might actually help to stabilize abit. Gonna try it.

Smooth yet abrasive: sounds perfect for silverpoint.... wish I could test a single sheet.

From the various pen tests above, I've concluded that this paper probably has a similar feel to the 'address' writeable area of Australia Post's satchels.

Thanks for a very interesting video. I didn't know much about stone paper. Now I know more. :)

Thanks the FP warning, this what I keep reading also. I would love to see more products created from product waste but of course they won't be universal which puts it in a tight niche product segment. Thanks again for the review!!

I guess it should be mentioned that it can't be recycled with normal paper as it's stone (I forget what) and plastic.

calcium carbonate aka Limestone. I'd never heard of this stuff before.

@@Ryan_H22 limestone is everwhere in the Midwest (US) ... it's quarried and utilized heavily here given it's location and abundance. That's my limited experience but hope it helps.

On their website, they state that it's compostable or recyclable as type 2 plastics. You can also send the book back to them for end-of-life recycling.

It takes ballpoint pens really well.

I picked one of these up the other day to check it out, since the concept intrigued me. I picked it up specifically to see how it works with various fountain pen inks. I can understand the concern that the product may be more abrasive than paper. I think that is might be baseless given fountain pen nibs are tipped with very hard metals, so I'll investigate. I'll use a kaweco sport with a broad steel nib, and a Lamy 2000, also broad. For the latter, I'll endevour to only use the underside portion of the nib. If the ball flattens out from abrasion I'll have a flatter stub as the sweet spot, which would actually be an upside for me. In the case of the kaweco, if a noticeable flat spot forms in the tipping, I can replace it. In terms of this "paper" it is sort of alien feeling- it has a certain uncanny-ness when you handle it. It is heavy and cold to the touch. However, for my use case (wet broad nibbed fountain pens) this stuff is really pleasant to write on. My pens can all write under their own weight just fine so between ink lubrication and lack of pressure my pens have a nice "matte" glide to the writing. Dry time sucks a bit, but I really like how my favorite inks look on it. I'll be interested to find out if it does anything to my nibs and let the community know. Let the pensperiment begin.

Good thing I didn't commit to get it... I don't use ballpoints that much and tend to use rollerballs... also that weird sponginess is unfortunate! I was thinking it was nice and firm

how long does it take for the ink to dry completely??
@theoffstageme
@theoffstageme 2 года назад
That depends on the pen and ink as much as the paper. But it some inks will take a while to dry on Stone paper

I've always assumed that "stone paper" is really "plastic paper"--I bet there is less stone than there is stuff holding it together. Seems like a gimmick. Given how much it deforms with normal writing pressure, it also seems kind of...awful. Thanks for the review! There is another company, Rite in the Rain, that makes waterproof paper. It's not claiming to be stone or anything, but I wonder how it performs. I can imagine it would be similarly prone to smearing but I haven't tried it.

Rite in the Rain works fantastic with ball point. Have used them at work for past 5-6 years. And its waterproofness is great. I’ve primarily used Fisher Space Pens or cheap Bic type ones.

20percent plastic HDPE which doesnt degrade on its own and needs to be recycled which probably wont, so basically you are writing on a plastic bag.

Why does plastic thin sheet of plastic looks and feels and pends like plastic? Hm, let me think.....

This paper is intriguing, but in every review I’ve seen it performs pretty awfully. The environmental claims made by stone paper brands are very dubious at best I think.

I just bought one and feeling the paper was nice but strange. it does have very thin chalky feeling. if you want to keep something in this note book forever, use a ballpoint or a Uniball Jet stream rb/bp pens on this. Anything gel IMO is going to run, smear, get on your hands and the inside of the note book possibly from an ink such as gel and it pushes through from the other page that you are writing on such as the inside front cover. Writing with a Bic Fine liner is very stuttering. I wish I had done more research that is if it can be shredded. For some things you write might be private. Maybe you can burn it if need be. Need to be careful maybe buying something on a whim.
