The San Gabriel River ROCK POOLS are a paradise get away day trip to beat the heat! 🙌 Hope you all make it out soon, it has water year round, because it’s feed by a deep spring. Thanks for watching 🤩🙌
I used to go there back in the early 1990s but now I live in Northern California. Glad to see this place is still so beautiful besides the graffiti. There are so many places like this to enjoy in NorCal. If you ever come up this way you should check out the North fork American River. If you think the east fork is a clear running river then the North fork American River will blow your mind.
Thank you for that tid bit as well! I'll have to map that spot out while I can still do it. I'm closest to Whitewater and Oak Creek Canyon, but haven't seen big bright pools like this around here. Kern river goes up quite a ways too. Sooo much to get out and see. California really does encompasses parts of every state in the U.S.
I never been here before but I'm familiar with the area, seen this place on channel 4 news the other morning. What a damn shame to see that people go party here and leave their trash there. It's a damn shame because I seen it was a lot of Modelo boxes thrown. Come on jente. Keep the area clean, live clean, don't be slobbs. Have some respect for yourself and others. Por fast , 👍💪
I was there just yesterday ❤ I jumped from that rock! It was a blast! I entered through the bridge to nowhere and went against the current to get there. You entered the opposite way right?
Awesome ! we went down stream from the Bridge to Nowhere parking lot and hiked in the river to get to those locations . Love hearing you had a blast! 😀😀🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thanks to your videos I was able to discover this river! I was born and raised in LA and I had no idea this existed. I’m now 50 and I am definitely going go enjoy it! Thank you!
Yes Sept. Oct . Are typically warmer and still great for swimming. Not sure about Az. Weather at that time. This has been a great year with the water flow because of all the rain we had this winter. April and May can have some gloom and sometimes a little rain. Water is colder then . 😀😀 Hope this helps
Awesome Video! What day of the week did you go? I'd love to check this spot out some time but concerned that there might be too many people on a typically warm, sunny weekend.
Hi and thank you for watching! We went on a Wed. Very early in the morning around 7:30 and it was a hot day so the sun was shining and water felt amazing ! There are more pools up stream towards Bridge to Nowhere too .. enjoy ! 😀😀
Hi, welcome 😀😀 we put an all trails link with directions to the trail head of Bridge to Nowhere and the vlog shows the trail down to the San Gabriel River. All we did was follow the river downstream until we found swim holes and rock pools we liked. The last spot is about 1/2 mile downstream. Hope that helps 🙌🙌
Whoa 😯 what a great place, I never know of this , thanks for sharing your finding and this cool video you made, I found your channel this Friday and I love it, thanks guys ✌, hope your channel keeps growing. by the way whats the deepest those ponds go?
We are happy to hear you are enjoying our channel! Welcome 😀😀this place is beautiful but there is trash in some areas . We did a video on that . These rock pools are so much fun to enjoy! The deepest we saw was about 4 ft deep . There was a fire there recently so not sure if it is still closed or not . All trails says it is. Hopefully they will reopen it soon! Thank you for watching !
Thanks for watching! You will have to walk down the hill but you can avoid the steep shortcut and continue on the main path till you get to the river. You will be able to see and hear it!😀😀
This is my Back Yard for 58 years. Not usually a SAFE place anymore...it's gotten WORSE over the Decades. ( Party people, TWEAKERS ( which are in back country beyond "Bridge to Nowhere" ) Lots of TRASH and sloppy people. Trash cans are there but the ground is easier? On Weekends you'll see 98% car/Trucks PARKED in NO PARKING but the SIgn doesn't stop them. Weekdays & More in Off Season is BEST!!! Trust Me!
We like to bring home more trash than we bring in, if everybody did the same it would get better 🙌😀 animals also get into the trash and spread it around. It’s a bummer but fixable. We need more trash cans with animal proof tops. Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻
@@hikebytes I go Prospecting up there just to kill time untill I go where the GOLDS really at… up North where it’s crazy beautiful, Clean & don’t have to worry about my Truck getting broken into like it’s known in AZUSA CANYON. It just attacks a certain Breed of people & you know what I’m saying. Have Fun & be SAFE !!!
Love your channel guys, thanks for all the great videos. Do you happen to remember what day of the week you filmed this? Just trying to find the least crowded time to go. And do you think there’s this much water still flowing? And lastly… do you ever check out any spots near Kern river? Check out a book titled Swimming Holes of California by Timothy H. Joyce if you haven’t already! Thanks guys!
We are so glad you are enjoying our channel !! 😀😀We went out there on a Wed. Around 7:30am and yes the water will still be flowing . We have gone to the Kern river but we went after the fires and the river was pretty muddy unfortunately . We could tell it would be amazing if it was clear! It was 110 degrees when we went 😳😳 Thank you so much for the suggestion we will check it out sounds like a great book ! We love rock pools ❤️❤️
We saw lots of kids playing but as always be careful with the young ones ..it is a river and there can be some heavier currents in some areas. Lots of rocks on the bottom so we wear our lightweight trail runners or water shoes to protect our toes and feet. The rocks are really hard on the feet ..Ouch!!
Went there today. Bad luck for us and others. Our car and others was broken into. So be careful not to leave anything in your car. Especially your car keys with other keys.
I have a question, since the fire happened they recommended not to go to this river which sucks. Do you know another river near campbrook ground that is like this river?
Oh no that is a bummer !!😔😔 Have you been to Stoddard Falls? We have a video on it and also another one called Below Stoddard Falls showing hiking in the creek below the main fall . Lots of small falls and swim holes . We don't know of any other rivers in the area that look like the Rock pools with that water and places to settle for the day. We are going to have to explore more to see what we can find!!
Thank you for watching ! There is a link in the description from all trails . You can plug in your address and it will give you directions 😀😀also an adventure pass is needed to park here it is $5.00 for the day and $30 for the year . We also have a link as to where you can get those. Big Five sells them as well. Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions. We are here for you😀😀
Hi guys I’ve been loving your videos! We’re planning a trip to the US next year and undecided whether to go in April/May or September/October. Two things we want to do is explore the canyons and waterfalls you guys show in your videos and also catch an NBA game or two. What would you say the general water flow/level of the waterfalls and swimming holes is like around September/october? Would most places be running dry? And is April/May warm enough to swim around California? Keep the videos coming, by far my favourite showcasing the swimming spots 👍🏼
Wow thank you ! 😀😀 Well April and May sometimes can have some rain or gloom but more green hillsides and wildflower beauty . Water is colder.and more abundant . We did have a very rainy season hence the large amounts of water flow. Sept and Oct. are warm typically so water will be warmer but less in some areas . Punch Bowls and The Rock pools at Bridge to Nowhere East fork of the San Gabriel river should be flowing pretty good! Both have deep water sources.
@@hikebytes thanks for the reply! So it would be safe to say that September/October would be warmer and better temperatures for swimming, whereas April/May would be better for overall flowing water around California and Arizona? Would April and May still be warm enough to swim at some of the places you have on your channel? Sorry again for the many questions 😂
You could absolutely swim in Springtime but sometimes water flow could be too heavy to swim and would be more of a cold plunge . It's warmer water and calmer in Sept Oct. some smaller water falls may dry up or be a trickle . What swimholes did you want to visit?
@@hikebytes okay so maybe sept/october will be better to be able to actually enjoy the swimming, especially seeing as a few places you guys have shown have all round water sources. so far our list has a heap of places from your channel, the Canyon Narrows, Stoddard Canyon falls, Punch Bowls, Seven falls, palm springs oasis hikes, green valley, Santa Ynez and Kern River etc. as well as hopefully a few in Arizona, Wet Beaver Creek, Indian Maiden falls, and around Sedona region.
Thank you we are so happy you enjoyed our vid!! 💕💕 We only noticed some flies and spiders on the trail a little . We were mostly in the river the whole time and it is moving even in the rock pools so no mosquitos there. Sometimes along the shoreline where water and mud are sitting still the mosquitos can be hanging out there. we can't guarantee there won't be any in certain areas. Also when you are in nature there are always going to be bugs! Spiders , ants , ticks, etc. you can bring bug spray to keep them away . Hope you get there and explore 😀😀
@@hikebytes Amazing, thank you for all the details! May I also ask what time you arrived? Planning how painfully early I may have to drive up from OC on a weekday. =)
Hi ! We went during the week last week so it was not crowded at all. There are all kinds of pools for miles .We recommend arriving early before the crowds come on the weekend just a heads up . Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. We recommend wearing water shoes to protect your feet as you can stub your toes on the rocks easily it hurts😆😆
Hi there, thank you so much for posting your videos. My wife and kids want to go here to the rock pools. Question, is the hike to the river kid friendly? I have a 7 and 10 yr old. I'm assuming from your video the hike down to the river isn't too far. Looks like about 10-15 minutes. I was just wondering if it's a steep hike to get there? Thank you. Hope to hear from you soon
Welcome and thank you for watching❤❤️! Not sure of your family's skill set ..Where we went down it was a little steeper but manageable . To the left you can go down easier . Also there are all kinds of pathways going down to the river from the top of the road. We have another video it's our latest one on our channel . We show other locations as well easy to get down to ..We show which is the most crowded and least crowded areas. Hope this helps and you and your family have an adventure together! Also be sure to get an Adventure Pass to park here. You will get a ticket . We have a link in description on where you can get these. They are $30 for the year or $5 for the day. They are also available at Big 5 .
@@hikebytes Yes sir, that's what I thought. I saw both of your last vids of the San Gab river and it gives us a better idea of where to go to avoid the large crowds. We might skip the Oaks picnic area and head to camp Williams. Any other areas you recommend where there aren't too many people? Thank you for replying.
Hi !! Welcome ! Yes it was on a Wednesday avoid the Oakes picnic area it is very crowded. On our channel we have a video called “rock pools trash talk,”and we show more secluded areas there with landmarks. Avoid weekends at that river. 👍🏻😀😀
Hi there! We went on Wed . At 8:30 am We also did a video on other locations as well . If you go to our channel page our newest one is called "Talking Trash"which we are dealing with a serious trash issue here on the beautiful river, but we also show other locations as well . One of them The Oakes picinic area is the worst with the trash! We don't suggest that place even though it is very pretty. Hope you make it out there and have some fun😀😀
When is the best time to go? This place isn’t a secret. At least not anymore. We went on Sunday around 10am and the place was PACKED! No parking anywhere. We ended up having to turn around and head back 😢
We recommend going during the week and early , we were there at approx 8:00 am on a Wed. And hardly anyone was there. 😀😀if you go on the weekend go early !
Thanks for watching We went again last week to talk about some trash issues at some of the local popular spots there. (Video comes out today at 11:30 am, we show new spots to visit some are more crowded ) This time we took the Glendora Mountain Road to East Fork. It’s another route there. It weaves a little more through the mountains, but it’s very beautiful. That was a bummer, road was closed.. Sorry to hear that. We like to use the Waze app navigation to make sure the route is open. We got to the Punch Bowls in Santa Paula with this app when one of the roads there was closed. It’s a very helpful app.For giving alternate routes. There was a wild fire up at Mt Baldy last week that may have been why it was closed.
Thanks for watching ❤️ we went downstream from Bridge to Nowhere trailhead and ran into them in less than a mile hiking through the river .We do not know what part of the road they came down although you could park at the top of the road and hike down to the river. There are so many cool spots and pathways down. 😀😀
Check with the Angeles forest Forestry website To find out where exactly you can camp. There was a fire here recently and we believe it is still closed unfortunately. 😔😔
I lost my wedding ring there in the 70s about a mile upstream. My finger shrunk & my golden rose with a diamond inset fell among the rocks in the riverbed. I looked all day & never found it.
Oh no !!we are sorry to hear that! It sounds like a beautiful ring !I had a silver rose ring (not a wedding ring) with a garnet stone in the center and one day it was gone ! I have no idea how I lost it ! It's such a bummer loosing something sentimental especially your wedding ring!
San Gabriel river at the Bridge to Nowhere parking lot in the San Gabriel mts . it runs all the way along the East Fork rd. There are several rock pools for miles downstream . Link is in the description.
Yes 🙌 it’s fed by a very large spring, we have a new vid coming out today at 11:30 am it is called “Rock Pools trash talk” we cover the issue of litter in some spots and show many more local spots less known about. We give visual directions and land marks for un named spots. Hope you get out there while it’s hot. Water is cold, so refreshing 😀
Thanks for watching 😃😃 It is a 1/4 mile from Trail head at bridge to nowhere, just follow river down stream and have a blast, it’s close to Coyote flats on Google maps, watch the video and check out the simple path we took
Thanks for watching, there is many miles of rock pools along the East fork of the San Gabriel River, we found more this week. Try weekdays and early, weekends we don’t hike. Hope that helps 😀🙌😀
This is a copy past from Google: it was the question you asked: “Can you bring dogs to Bridge to Nowhere? Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. The rocky trail along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River to the Bridge to Nowhere is not only one of the best trails in the San Gabriel Mountains, but it's also one of the most unique hiking experiences you'll ever have.”
No but you need an Adventure Pass or you will get a ticket. We have a link in the description on where to purchase them. It's $30 for the year or $5for a day pass. Big 5 also carries them. Hope you go and enjoy this beautiful place . Check out our other video on our channel the thumbnail says : Talking Trash ..we show more spots 👍👍
Thank you for this great video! I am planning to go there this Sunday with my elderly parents. Do you know if the site where people were camping in your video is accessible from East Fork road? My mom cannot walk too long…
Yes you can get there from the road, we are not sure where . They pointed up the hill from where they were. So I guess they parked and walked down a path as there are several. Please be careful with brining elderly some of the paths coming down looked steep and rocky although we have seen some older people there. It just depends on their own abilities. They may have found an easier path. You may wish to scope out the area first before brining them . 😀😀👍👍have fun ! Hint : week days are the best time to go and early!
Thanks for watching 🙌 Weekends are crowed at any spot, we like week days only and start early. We have another rock pool video coming out Sunday at 11:30 am because we went again, both times were mellow crowds and had many private areas. This new vid covers the trash issue in popular areas, but shows people how to avoid crowds, to find less known spots. People watch, but not everyone goes. The river has miles of rock pools to explore, just pick a spot along the East Fork road and hike down (1/10 mile or less) and see if you like the spot, it’s that simple to find a less crowded area.
@@hikebytes thank you I usually try to get weekdays off cause it’s less packed everywhere lol but I’ve seen other videos talking about the trash gonna have to take some bags just in case there’s trash to keep it clean that place looks amazing to relax and chill
I remember going to this river the water was SUPER COLD but it was a hot day it was refreshing but hard to get used too lmao the water is amazing and clear but i rather go to the azusa lake (Santa fe dam)
Yes it can be cold !! Some areas are definitely colder than others . The further downstream we went the warmer it got. Especially where the sun was shining! Cold is good for those endorphins that can last for hours 😀😀
Thanks for watching! Check with the San Gabriel forestry to find out where exactly the campsites are located. Make sure you have an Adventure Pass to park here . $30 for the year or $5.00 for the day. We have a link in the description as to where you can purchase these. Big 5 also sells them 😀😀
Unfortunately we do not recommend this 8.5 mi hike for kids . Trail is overgrown in areas , there is continuous boulder hopping and top it off with an unleashed German shepherd that lives on the ranch where you have to pass through an easement would not be safe for kids. This dog jumped over the wall and jumped at Heidi growling and barking the only thing that kept her from getting bit was the owner from a distance called for the dog.
This is awesome. I've seen videos of San Gabriel river and it looked trashed up with lots of ppl. Is this the same place?? This video is the same place ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bx1Hyx5MUCg.html
Where we filmed was a different location it was shot closer to Bridge to Nowhere trailhead, see our complete video for exact location we give detailed info visually. Actually that location did not have as much of a trash issue. The trash is more at Cattle Canyon trail head and the Oaks picinic area We are going to make an environmentally conscience video this week. Drawing attention to trash and everyone’s responsibility 😀👍🏻
We saw dogs along the river, yet we do not know officially if it’s allowed, we have always seen dogs on the Bridge to Nowhere hike, which is the same River. East Fork of the Adam Gabriel River 😀😀
The water is clear and beautiful it's got rocks on the bottom so it stays clear not muddy . We suggest not going to The Oakes picinic area there is a lot of trash in that area . Watch our other Rock pool video we show other areas to go to . Even up stream toward Bridge to Nowhere there are tons of areas to explore in that beautiful clear water. 😀😀
Hi we wanted to let you know according to All Trails it's closed due to a fire recently . Keep checking All trails app to see when it will reopen . It may be open downstream from the fire .
We all hear about the good spots from a friend 🙌😀 we hope you go and check it out soon, there is 10 plus miles of that beautiful East fork of the San Gabriel River 🤩
Just want to remind everyone that while it's nice to swim, most of these big rock pools are man-made by people that visit. They are unfortunately bad for the habitat of animals that live in in the streams, and we really should not be building more.
By the way we have another vid coming out tomorrow at 11:30am that shows many more rock pool locations away from the crowds of popular places, and also tackles the trash issue, encouraging all of us to pick up some as we hike 🙌👍🏻
