Great choice! 'Work Shit Out' is probably their best spectacle of instrumental prowess, and their 'Thriller' cover will bring the MJ comparison to life.
Really fun review and I'm so happy you got to feel some of the Loops positive energy. You'll find whatever song they're playing you can just feel what fun they're having. As to that MJ feel among other things Dirty Loops are managed by the inimitable Quincy Jones. You mentioned their MJ cover which is of "Thriller." This is a collaboration they did with Cory Wong and his horn section. As I heard one person say "this is how you cover a classic." They do the original proud and also make the song theirs. Their earlier covers are all brilliant, too. DL started off as a cover band, in fact. Check out "Baby," "Circus," "Just Dance," "Wake Me Up," "Ta Fete," etc. All on YT. Check them out.
Yeah! More Dirty Loops! J. Elise has good advise for you. Then when you want something short you can pick "Coffee break is over" or something from Aron's and Henrik's stuff, like "Pink power", or "Old Armando had a farm". That is really enjoyable pieces, but not as big spectacles (still a lot of fun to check out!).
What a beautiful combo: Dirty Loops and Mike and Ginger! Love it - the best of two worlds! :-) You have a lot to enjoy still, as every song is brilliant and leaves you wanting more, but Work Shit Out would probably be a great next song. In my opinion Next To You is their greatest masterpiece! Or maybe you should start from the beginning in the DL-rabbit hole, with Hit Me! Just because noone mentions Ring of Saturn I'll do it. In that DL are in their best jazz mode. Wonderful cooperation with other musicians in which they really allow their collegues to shine. There is no "I" in "team".
Sounds like MJ Sometimes, true.But their musical skills is far beyond him. My opinion. It's like MJ mixed with Steve Wonder on steroids. Masters of their craft. Another group from ABBA land. 🇸🇪💯❤️. And one more product of public funded music school.
First thing I thought of Mike. The Michael Jackson feel 🤣 Which is not a bad thing. Really enjoyed that. Some great skill there. 🤣🤣I've taken to making duplicates of my lists, because I forget where I put them. Most important thing, put a date on them. 🤣🤣 Confusion may follow.
There was only one MJ. But just for fairness sake DL are managed by Quincy Jones (if you know Michael you know Quincy). Quincy said of Jonah's voice "he has one of the greatest vocal ranges I've ever heard." So if QJ's doesn't have a problem with their sound I certainly don't. And I don't believe they're trying to sound like anybody but themselves, every musician has their influences.
There are some songs where I do think Jonah TRIES to sound like MJ and it doesn't come off as authentic TO ME. But this isn't one of those songs. MJ is an influence for him, as are Stevie Wonder and Pat Metheny. And when one is influenced by another, it tends to show and it's not always intentionally a copycat situation.
@@staffankarlsson1428 I agree. “Breakdown” and “Hit Me” prove that point for me. Whereas “Diamond Ring” really showcases Jonah’s capacity to sound as much like MJ as he wants. Also love your Metheny reference, which really shows me that you’re paying attention to the full range of Nilsson’s influences. Anyone who summarizes Nilsson’s enormous talent as “Not quite MJ” doesn’t really appreciate how rare it is to find a performer who can competently roll all these styles together in one take.
@@robote7679 Dont apologize. We all love Michael. But Michael did not have the agility to do the kind of runs Jonah does. He is of course inspired by Michael (and Stevie too), but then he takes that inspiration and runs with it...fast and far! A vocal beast.
