i’m willing to wait another 2 if it’ll be as good or better than cmiygl and the estate sale wasnt bad at all, i just wish there was more even if it’s not perfect
RUNITUP I feel is pretty straightforward. The reason it may not be clicking for you is that it's heavily referencing Tyler's 5th album "Flower Boy", where he discusses his wealth, and how he uses his wealth to drown out the pain he feels. "I might just spend it all" is said in a confident manner, which contrasts to "Flower Boy"'s depressed and guilty feeling about Tyler's wealth. Every Tyler album has a theme if not a story and "Call Me if You Get Lost" is an attempt to combine all of the styles he has done over the years. PLEASE LISTEN TO FLOWERBOY AND IGOR. Although chronology isn't important, it does shape how you view Tyler's albums. If you were to listen to "Call Me if You Get Lost" after listening to all of Tyler's discography it would sound definitely different to you.
holy shit ur so right wtf. i was wondering why it felt so good in contrast to flowerboys anxiety about how his wealth might be taken from him at any moment.
Do you have advice on how to listen to music? This is such a dumb question I know but I love music, yet I only recently started caring about lyrics (before I’d pay attention to and be fascinated by the instruments and other sounds in songs). When you listen to Tyler, do you know what each song is about straight away? Or with any artist’s song? I’d love to be able to understand lyrics to the level you do and be able to figure out what/how songs connect to other songs, even if the lyrics are straight-forward
@@1bh2nd3md it's kinda one of those things where you have to listen a few times, really take in the song first, then you'll start appreciate the song and it's lyrics combined with whatever else you like about songs, example i hated willshire, but i grew to appreciate and listen more then started understanding certain phrases or lyrics, like the flower boy refrences etc.
DUDE YES, massa is my favorite too, just such a good song. also fun fact, tyler recorded wilshire in one take, so if you listen to it again just think that all in one sitting and on the first try too. love your content man and will be giving you so much praise and recommendations in the future.
@@nick_h143 yeah man, it’s super cool. i believe the interview he said it in was a quite recent one with zane lowe, definitely should check it out, it’s pretty good.
I love how knowledgeable and just intelligent in general, and in music, you are. Makes it really easy to watch. Props to you! Some reaction channels are really generic with what they're saying and they aren't relatable or interesting to watch.
Cherry Bomb is actually his most underrated pivotal album, where he adopted his current techniques and stylizations. It's more than a worthwhile listen, and borderlines on the industrial.
I always maintain the opinion that Cherry Bomb sucks. Aside from a couple masterpiece tracks it's garbage, HOWEVER it's monumentally important to his progression. Nothing is the same without it
@@arthurdunn4594 I think also quite a few songs on there were absolutely great. I would say it was alright because of that alone but if I were to rate some tracks like "Keep da O's" and the majority of the album was a dumpster fire, I would have the same opinion as you
i was just looking for something to listen to while i do my online school and i found these videos, this channel is a hidden gem! you have great takes on everything and your reactions are funny also you give great song recommendations. i'm definitely gonna be watching more!
32:42 the "here today gone tomorrow" is an extension of the theme of chasing your dreams. We here today and gone tomorrow so why not chase your dreams while you have the chance. It's a feeling of having fun, being young and reckless even, that's why he says "I might just spend it all" ontop of the fact that it's an extension having success
Juggernaut is a favorite of mine. I grew up listening to Pharell and The Neptunes. N.E.R.D. too! And I know the love Tyler has for Pharrell. He's mentioned his love and respect for him countless times. A huge inspiration for Tyler. That's no secret. To see he finally got a sick ass verse without changing anything. I know he wanted it a bit different on Cherry Bomb. But he's always wanted a rap verse from Pharrell in his 2006 style. Around that time we was heavy into materialistic shit. Fast cars, jewelery, girls, money, etc. And his debut album at the time was filled with that. Although he always had a different side to him too. Just see what he did in N.E.R.D.. So yeah, I love that era too even if it's ignorant and flashy. It was dope to see. Getting Pharrell to rap like his old self is rare.
noooo you really should react to cherry bomb!! it’s such a great and diverse album and i don’t understand why it gets so much hate. i would say i like it as much/more than call me if you get lost!!a couple of songs even have rock influence in them, so i think you’ll enjoy it a lot! the instrumentals on that album are just top notch
I really like Cherry Bomb. However, I'm sad to say that I cannot react to it because I've already listened to it so much lol... maybe I'll do a "revisit" video or something. Cherry Bomb is just my style with all the distortion and loudness that's happening on the album.
cherry bomb is personally my favorite album by tyler, it’s a beautiful mess especially after watching the documentary by illegal civ you get to see so much of what he does and what he goes through is really amazing.
I’m a little late to the party but this is one of my Tyler albums because i think it showcases his production abilities incredibly, from the small sound effects through the entire piece to the song massa where it starts of slow and slowly adds more instruments. Glad you enjoyed it lol. ( also while i’m here you should give mmm food by mf doom and unlocked by denzel curry a listen )
At the end of lemonhead I was balling like sobbing like a baby because I heard franks oceans voice in sooo long and his baby brother had passed away I just miss him so much and wish him the best
Down Rodeo is a favorite of mine too! No lie! Tool and RATM! Both insanely amazing bands. Can't wait for RATM's return. Tool did it after 13 years. Now it's time RATM returns. We need them!
Bob, I'm pretty sure you'd like The Weeknd's Kiss Land album, I saw you mentioned Industrial, that album is like Phil Collins meets Blade Runner soundtrack, with Michael Jackson singing. It even samples Portishead's Machine Gun in one of the songs. Really experimental, alternative R&B shit. Really depressing too.
the “GANGSTA GRIZZILL” is basically a mixtape/album hosted & produced by DJ Drama. that’s who’s talking on every song. and that’s who produced this album. it’s been a goal of Tyler’s to do a collab with him & they won a grammy for it 🙏🏾
I compare the message of RUNITUP to that of Lateralus, about pushing the envelope because there being no real ceiling / no real boundaries holding you off of that. To know you can grow and move further than what may seem right now.
for the past three days I've been binge watching all your videos man, absolutely love the energy and your point of view on all these awesome albums. much love out here man!! I totally recommend oncle jazz - Men I trust, for you to react too, its a lot more slow and rnd/indie type music but personally i love the band. keep on doing what you're doing and keep rocking!!!!! - Zane
The video you were referencing during lumberjack is called brown sugar salmon which was a skit Tyler did. I highly recommend you watch it its hilarious. He also did a skit called the really cool converse club
This album speaks one single story but divides into two perspectives: Tyler falling in love with a girl whose boyfriend is Tyler's friend and Tyler talking about his wealth and success to remember himself he does not need her to runitup. Tracks such as Massa, Runitup, Safari, Corso speaks about his wealth and other such as Sweet/ITYWTD, Wilshire, Wusyaname about his story with this girl.
No fucking way. Tool! I'm so high I didn't even see your shirt! Tool is literally my favorite band, as you can tell from my profile pic lol. But honestly, Pushit is hands down one of my favorite songs and I love playing it on guitar. The live version off Salival is absolutely incredible too. It's amazing how essentially changed the song. And the intro for it says it all.
Hey Bob, just came across this video and saw the part where you said that RATM would be a great transition from Rap to Rock and I couldn't agree more. A rapper/artist named Denzel Curry covered Bulls on Parade and added his own freestyle spin on Triple J a couple years ago, I recommend checking that video out if you haven't!!
just to let you know, the interpretations on genius are not based on the artists own meaning so the genius descriptions often arent 100% accurate. i love your reactions tho
Dude you are genuinely one of my favorite music reaction channels on yt. You have absolutely no bias or judgmental mentality and that is so hard to find in society today. Much love man ❤️
Have u listened to asap Rocky’s testing album? He’s literally testing new sounds. Going to look on ur Channel to see if u posted it and if u haven’t I’d love to see ur reaction to it
if you ever wanna try out a group who was super influenced by tyler, you should listen to brockhampton, with their saturation trilogy. Maybe do a reaction to their music video HEAT. it’s the first song off their album, so you wouldn’t be ruining the album too much.
wish you couldve started from somewhere like goblin or bastard and listened in order to really get on track with tylers whole story line but great review
Look into if it’s possible legally (I don’t know the laws or RU-vid rules with dmca) but do a full reaction to Bo Burnham’s netflix special called inside, I think you would really like the songs and idea of it
It's tough. It all depends on who owns the copyright and what they tell RU-vid to do when their software discovers copyright material. Some (like Kanye) let the video post and claim the copyright. Others (Kendrick Lamar's group) block the video entirely. You basically don't until you post which is very annoying.
For me RUNITUP it's the intro that's the message. "Fuck them, Imma do my own shit". Just because people tell you you can't achieve your dreams doesn't mean you can't.
