These mainstream media music lists are trash! They're written by hipsters that only like whatever music is praised by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork etc. I'm glad you did a rant on this Guru. It would be fun to see a top 100 hard rock and hair metal album video series on the channel!

Actually done the maths on this. There are 33 rock albums on the list and 24 rap albums. Idk why people are mad at this. Maybe cos rap is getting representation and its scary for these old people who are scared of change in music i guess?

It's inherent bias, the fact that there's so much black artistry shown appreciation on the music list makes people uncomfortable because they're still looking at the color instead of the music/culture.

There’s no way someone actually thinks Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ is better than Appetite For Destruction, Led Zeppelin II, The Chronic or any other album on that list. The Jay-Z ‘Blueprint’ placement had me rolling too. My all time favorite band would have to be Aerosmith, just because they were the first band that I ever liked. I was relatively late to caring about music, my parents were both music freaks but it just never clicked with me at all until I was around 9-10 years old. My dad played Toys in the Attic one night, and I was immediately hooked to music from that moment onward. I was raised on classic rock, we had music playing in my house more often than we had a TV on. My dad was more of a heavy metal, Sabbath and AC/DC guy (he loved Pantera when I introduced him years later), and my mom was more into stuff like Rush and Yes (got her into Radiohead and Tool pretty easily). That said my parents also did love other genres of music too. Both of my parents were the opposite of "rap is crap" old-fool mentality and really embraced not only their own favorite artists and bands, but were always really open to new music and let my brother and I play DJ on road trips. I am fully confident in saying that yes, Eminem is in fact better than AC/DC. And I love AC/DC, probably more than I love Eminem, but AC/DC has pretty much been making the same album over and over for 50 fucking years at this point. Eminem is the closest thing we have to a consensus greatest of all time in rap music. I'm fine with critics considering his contribution and even influence to be greater than AC/DC at this point. There is a disease with so many classic rocks fans of this delusional arrogance that the popular music of their generation is somehow objectively good lol. It's not a bias, was it bias towards other genres in the 60's and 70's when rock dominated? Lol you're just old dude, it happens to all of us. I mean let me tell you something, KISS fucking sucks fucking ass. They have like 3 good songs. Terrible band filled with non-talented dorks. The only guy that could even play well hasn't been in the band for like 25 years now lol. Half the bands you are calling out as not being there do not belong. Def Leppard is terrible. Rob Zombie has made exclusively terrible music since leaving White Zombie. And you understand the importance of Rage but not Kendrick Lamar? LMFAO. It's not a 100 Greatest Rock Albums list, and rock is not any more important than other genres are. It's kind of half-dead zombie genre at this point where even the currently great bands just are not having huge breakthrough success anymore, while hip-hop has spent the last 30 becoming the most influential music genre in Western culture to the point where we all know the names of like 100 rap artists that we've never even listened to, so yeah, not sure what you are surprised about here. Does the list suck? Yeah, duh, it's a list of supposedly great albums released by a publicly traded corporation, of course it's out of touch with reality and pandering to whatever demographic they deemed to be currently the most profitable. But it's subjective. There is no bias against rock music, it's just fading in popularity. Can you imagine some idiot crying about Van Halen being considered above Motzart on some other "greatest ever" list? Go play your favorite local nothing but repeat rock station if you don't like Apple Music.

I never got the obsession people have with Horses either. My roots are in the 70's NYC downtown rock/punk scene (of which Kiss was never a part of) and from what I got from talking to people who were deeply involved in it was that it was a whole "you had to be there" type of moment. How that filthy hippie gets more acclaim than The Dolls, The Heartbreakers, Television, Richard Hell and even Blondie is beyond me.
i stopped caring about lists like these years ago. when the lists are compiled by those like rolling stone, apple music, or created by a group of current day artists who belong to only one genre, then you will only see the obvious artists (metallica, ac/dc) but you won't see any truly influential albums like perhaps the sweet, or the new york dolls...who influenced entire genre's into existence. a travesty that def leppard, bon jovi, and van halen are ignored in these types of lists. thank god they didn't forget billie eilish though.
I’m a huge fan of glam metal and hard rock but there is a lot of good albums on this list. Sure it may not be a good list but you have to understand not everything revolves around rock and metal.
Oh please save your blood pressure and don't read this ridiculous list. Sorry, but the general musical taste of the mass population is pretty horrific. It's what gets programmed into the masses heads by the big record company and media companies. You do far more sharing the positives and love and fun discussions about this music.
Our era of music from past to present is always over looked even though back in the day the albums sold just as well as the pop albums back in the day . Keep posting these videos mate

Alright, I’m gonna make a big long comment and whether you respond or see it is up in the air, but I honestly have more thoughts about the way this video was put together. I’ll start with a disclaimer: I do not agree with this list either, I think I just disagree with your video even more (and I love rock, I grew up on a lot of music from that era, and continue to appreciate and look for more rock) Let’s start with things I agree with you on 1. The list could’ve been better, there were definitely some odd inclusions (bad bunny, drake, to name a couple), and there is definitely some recency bias 2. There were some rock albums left off that should’ve been here. There could’ve been a Police album, In the Court of the Crimson King, Animals, Wish you were here, Grace, etc etc Ok now on to the stuff I have problems with for this video. PLEASE don’t read this in an angry tone, this is conversational, there is not an iota of anger in my head as I write this. 1. I genuinely don’t think you even try to respect either pop or hip hop music put out after the 80s. It seems you’re allergic to new music or something with the sheer hatred you say the names of a lot of these artists with. There were some odd placements for sure (Taylor Swift is WAY too high and Billie Eilish should probably be lower as well to name a couple), but for most of these I doubt you’ve even listened to the album You can’t even be bothered to pronounce some of the artists names right (like Rihanna), and sardonically write off entire albums, artists, and honestly almost the entire genres of pop and hip hop as unimportant (you dismiss 50 cent, Bjork, Nas, Beyoncé, even Nina Simone and Nirvana, which shocked me) All this to say, you say at the beginning you’ll “give respect where it’s due, but honestly I don’t think you even try to respect either the artistry or influence of anything put out in the past 30 years. If you dislike an album, that’s fine, but at least recognize the importance of an album like Illmatic (considered perhaps the best rap album ever) or Fame Monster instead of calling it garbage 2. This is a list of greats, some of your favorite bands are gonna be left out. You named a whole bunch of bands you were salty with getting cut, and I get it, my favorite album ever isn’t here either, but the thing is, this is a top 100 list, meaning there are only hundred spots for every genre ever, we can’t have 40 different rock bands because then there’d be no room for nearly anything else. Which also brings me to: just because an album is 40 spots better than another doesn’t mean Apple Music or anyone thinks the gap is massive, or that they’re in different leagues. It’s the top 100, most of these albums (with the exclusion of a couple duds) are in the same league: the best one. (Back in black was still too low though) 3. Rock is not “shit on” with this list from a numerical standpoint. Look at the percentages, they’re easy to find on the wiki, and you’ll see that it is the second most represented genre on this list. Obviously it doesn’t seem like that, because you’re really categorizing the genres as “rock” and “not rock” mentally since you’re a massive rock fan, but rock is actually very well represented (numerically speaking). I say this because there actually are a lot of very under-represented genres in this list. There is literally one country album on this list, and also not nearly enough jazz, singer-songwriter projects, metal, or world music (which they can’t exclude because of the weird bad bunny placement). Rock is actually incredibly well represented when looked at through this lens 4. More of a nitpicky thing, but you expressed utter contempt for the genre of gangster rap, but then respected the beastie boys placement? The beastie boys were some of the biggest pioneers of gangster rap, why do they randomly get respect? 5. I don’t think you actually listened to most of these albums. I say this because you have such disrespect for so many great albums and artists, whose names you sometimes even mispronounce, and if you’re going to express hatred for an album then you at least should listen to it. 6. Think about this for a second. I get that you’re a rock fan but with the amount of albums you listed that should’ve been on here it seems like you can’t even conceive of a top 100 list that doesn’t feature almost exclusively rock and also leaves almost all music after the 80s excluded. That wouldn’t be an accurate list, we both know it (though again, I agree there is a bit of recency bias). 7. Apple Music putting an album below another or leaving off an album isn’t shitting on an artist. Also, just because one Beyoncé album placed among the Beatles (for example) obviously doesn’t mean apple values that one album over the entire Beatles discography, or that they are devaluing the entire genre of rock. They are being ranked as individual projects, and should be treated as such by any who react to the list. 8. A final couple of things. Number 1: Yes, the miseducation of Lauryn hill is THAT good. Trust me. Yes Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid Maad City is THAT good, even if it isn’t your cup of tea. And finally, what’s with the nirvana hate man? They’re like, really good, I don’t care if it’s basic, they’re a staple of the grunge genre (I do prefer Alice In Chains though). And finally, you know how there are rock albums not included which upset rock fans? There are at least 5 albums like that for the fandom of every music genre. And you know how no rock fan ever thinks the Arctic Monkeys belongs that high or even on the list at all? Same thing with every other genre. That to say that Apple Music got it wrong almost across the board, so don’t think this treatment is exclusive to the genre of rock. They aren’t shitting on rock, they just suck at making lists, as do most corporations. Alright, have a nice day to anyone reading this, love you

Hi HairMetalGuru, I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on Apple's Top 100 Albums list. I just want to say that Wikipedia doesn't organize record labels listed for how many albums by order of most to least but by the parent companies who own the labels, selected in no discernable order I can tell, and then it is listed by most albums to least top to bottom until it shows the next range of numbers with the next parent company. If you scroll down you'll see that Columbia Records has 13 albums on the Apple Music Top 100 list, 3 more than Interscope Records, making Columbia Records the number champion record company on the list.
This list stinks worse than a portable toilet at a fairgrounds in mid July!!! I can easily remove and replace at least a third of this list and the top half albums that would stay I'd relocate to the bottom 50 of the list!
Just realize that if the mainstream is shitting on, censoring, or canceling something you're in to, you're on the right track, and there's something actually redeeming about it. This is just more confirmation that this music is solid.

Lmao never heard of the VAST majority of these albums/artists. I know music will naturally always evolve. As well as a massive 80's rock/metal fan im also a big rockabilly, punk, surf and doo-wop fan and collector. When it comes to rap, while i cant stand it I try and remind myself at least in its heyday it was a genuine grassroots movement that formed much the way doo-wop vocal groups formed in the 50's.

I do love some pop music from the 80s and mtv nonsense but modern pop sucks coming from a hard rock and metal I do dislike grunge but i do love alice in chains But i think dave grohl is great guy for keeping rock alive IMO
I'm very similar, massive AOR, glam, hard Rock fan but appreciate other music , Alice in chains were definitely different , I had a special fondness for The Screaming Trees, Sweet Oblivion very underrated album .

They have no appreciation for some of the biggest acts ever because the panel they chose doesn't understand it. There is no way those artists listened to a full sprectrum of genre candidates. The list really isn't "about the best". It is a marketing device to what best serves Apple and its higher profile streaming artists. These types of lists generate a viral response whether negative or positive (doesn't matter) to increase streaming. The demographic targeted audience is a younger generation not necessarily aimed at rockers still listening to physical media. Just my opinion.

Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar. All of these are relatively new artists but the albums that were chosen were groundbreaking for the time and we are yet to see the true extent of their influence
Most of the rock albums on the list suck ass. Back in Black and GNR are super overrated, they picked the wrong Led Zep album as well. GKMC absolutely slaps every rock album on the list though.

If you want to influence politics you engineer and change the culture. If you want to engineer and change the culture you rewrite history, memory-hole a people's past and bury it, and force the direction of the future.
