To be honest Elton John is without question a musical genius. The 60's and 70's had by far the most gifted and talented singer/songwriters as a whole in the history of music making.
Being gay also helps being promoted in our brave new world. I've seen plenty of talented musicians (write/sing/play) who have been ignored because they don't fit the media's agenda.
Boy you said it, I grew up as a teenager in the 70's and you couldnt turn a corner without hearing an elton song, I like him from the start - very different sound and some of his songs like (your song!) tiny dancer rocket man and sooo many more are pop masterpieces. I do prefer his earlier stuff, but you mellow with age I suppose. Its cliche but he was a big part of the soundtrack of my youth. Noone like, never will be. So cool that hes still going after all these years, saw him in StLouisA+!
This song by itself reveals the essence of the great Elton John. If, in the not-too-distant future, my grandchildren ask me who Elton John is--or was, perish the thought--I'll just say listen to Rocket Man. Behold the wonder, child.
An absolutely fantastic talent, in his heyday, myself and my wife went to hear him live a few years ago, and while it was good to see a legend, his voice is utterly gone by comparison with this performance. But what a body of work this man has, and what a fantastic career he's had, an icon.
Once upon a time, a long time ago, in the ancient Hanseatic city of Memel, two souls met. The ancestors of both souls were tightly connected with this city: for one they were scientists and teachers, and for the other they were rulers. Their meeting took place in a very exotic atmosphere, during the times of the Soviet Union. Memel, renamed Klaipeda by the Bolsheviks, has lost its former charm, but still something has been preserved: buildings, beautiful sunsets, architecture of that elusive aroma of the 80s era, the energy of the socialist way of life, which cannot be expressed in words. But the strangest thing was that in the evenings in local restaurants they played Elton John, this particular composition. And after such a huge number of years, this music sounded today too. She did not let me forget those wonderful impulses of youth, that unforgettable time. Slandered today, called occupation, it was the best time, without a doubt, and not only for these two souls.
Every day I thank the powers that be for creating the internet so I can be re-introduced to different versions of the songs I love and would have only otherwise known on the albums. I saw Elton in the last 5 years and it was truly amazing, but he's lost a certain quality in his voice that is fully captured here.
Hey, I also used to listen to Elton John's songs through shortwave. Albuns were very expensive and I was just a teenager with no money. I used to request Elton's songs I didn't know so I could learn them. Once BBC Brazilian Service answered my request. I was so happy!!! Just like the chorus on Captain Fantastic: "From the end of the world to your town" or the other way round, I guess.
From a time that we had so much to dream about. We had just been to the moon several times. The future was so exciting and so many things happened. Now, 40 years later we haven't been as far as the moon yet.
First time I ever put together a song with a singer was when I was a little kid listening to this song on the radio as I was going to sleep. That plaintiff, lonesome voice just touched me inside...and I think it's gonna be a long, long time...
I LOVE this song so much. I was born in 1984 and I'm not a big music guy, but if I'm in the right mood, this song can bring tears to my eyes. It's fantastic.
a genius is nothing without the right envormonment that supports you. we missed so many female genuise because until not long ago, women were not wanted to be artists or musicians or scientists anything. and they still get less spotlight
Holahula puffin Um excuse me! I find that to be very sexist! Here are a list of great historical women the true feminist' not this SJW crap: Marie Curie St Joan of Arc Lise Meitner Ada Lovelace Hypatia of Alexandria Émile du Châtelet Ellen Swallow Richards Sophie Germain Clara Schumann Nadia Boulanger Marianna Martins Rebecca Clarke Anna Bon De Venezia St Columba The Virgin St Monica St Germana Cousin All of those are off the top of my head!
This is a month before his 25th birthday. So much skill and ability ... the world was about to hear Rocket Man... and everything changed after that. From '72 to '76, Elton owned popular (AM hit Radio) music.
Elton is great - Mr. 70's , don't ever let them tell ya that the 70'ssucked...But from this song to Someone saved my life tonite in his solo concert in '76 Sir Elton went bald
Imagine being the producer for Elton John's albums. OK, Rocket Man, take 1... and that's a wrap. There are only a handful of them out there, but he sings as well or better live than on his albums. Crystal clear voice.
Still to this day one of his best performances. David Bowie´s Hunky Dory was released in 1971 and it´s obvious that even Elton John enjoyed at least one of the tracks on that album. Elton´s answer to Life on Mars!
My dearvElton , you are a so big star , an interstellar big so you give love and light in all the world in every time. I love you❤ ❤Online LOVE❤ONELOVE❤TRUELOVE❤ALLBROTHERS❤
One of the greatest musicians of all time. His hits have spanned over 5 decades which very few singers/songwriters/performers can ever say. The outfits from the 70's/early 80's were a strange period, but other than that, Elton is an incredible performer. Thanks for the music Reggie!
I've seen a few good bands and artists perform songs live before they went on to be big hits but can you imagine being in that audience? That performance would have knocked my socks off!
