AWESOME!!! This vid is one of my FAVORITE canal vids of ALL-TIME!!! The battle was great, the anticipation of the catch and you guys kept it REAL from start to finish. GREAT CAPTURE, CONGRATS!!!
Thank you so much we always try to keep it real. We're just a bunch of laid-back Southeastern Mass guys that have a passion for fishing. The incredible thing is that Ron was slamming even bigger bass before I got down there that day. This guy is like a fish whisperer.
Cool bro, you're welcome. That Ron seems like a BLAST to fish with. GOOD LUCK IN "24". I'm from New Bedford myself, GREAT fisheries in our area@@GroceryBagAngler
Glad to see that he released it. Those are full or heavy metal and all sorts of nastiness. When I was a kid they had the 36 inch minimum or 42 inch. I can’t remember. So just anyone catching a striper was a Chinese firedrill
Yes of course we had to release this fish. We didn't measure it but it was definitely over the 28 to under 31" slot limit for bass. I personally kept 4 stripers this year mostly around 28-29".
Yeah Rocket Ron is no stranger to big bass. A couple years ago he landed a 42" striper from his kayak using only 8 pound test monofilament. We usually run on the lighter side with gear. I've caught many keepers from the bank and kayak using only 10 pound braid, Power Pro. It holds up well.
Thanks for telling him to not curse. What people forget is a lot of children love and do watch these fishing videos. My son brought me this one saying “dad’ he is saying a bad word”.
I apologize for that. This isn't what this channel is about. It's about fishing and the outdoors of southeastern Massachusetts. My friend Ron is a good fisherman but does curse a lot.
6" Al gags pearl white you can buy them from the tackle shops. Crank them like a swim bait, don't jig it. Let it drop for a second or 2 and then start cranking. Canal is a gamble best time in my opinion is early morning 4-5 am. West end near the RR bridge has been hit or miss. Good luck!
It’s hit or miss. They probably spent a month there with out a good catch. Don’t let them fool you. I used to spend my summers up there in west Falmouth and it’s called fishing for a reason. Not catching
@@judd0112absolutely correct. I was 2/10 there last season (2023). I do like to fish the canal but I would prefer to fish the rivers in my kayak. It's much more enjoyable in my opinion. When the bait is in the canal it's game on. This was late June/early July when the tinker mackerel was so heavy that the bass were pushing them into the shallows at our feet. It was total madness!
I believe it's a Diawa 9' rod and Penn 5000 reel. I'll have to ask him about the specifics. He really needs an upgrade for this upcoming season to land some more slob bass.
