Great win but damn our fielding has been concerning so far. A lot of situations of guys trying to do too much instead of just being fundamentally sound. Morel in particular has looked pretty bad defensively but the pitching has been pretty decent and the bats have been hot so it is what it is!
Not too much to be concerned about. Most of the liabilities are just fill in guys until prospects come up. The cubs have the 2nd highest projected DRS, so I’m sure it’ll average out.
Nice to see the Cubs get off to a good start in 2024. The bullpen game starter looked impressive in his inning, really showed power in that arm. But I feel sorry for Bud Black, having to manage Colorado. Cubs went to sleep briefly, allowing Rockies to tie it, but that roster and pitching staff is nearly the worst in all of MLB. All they really have is Charlie Blackmon. Sorry Rockies fans, but if you're honest with yourself, you cannot disagree.
5 of those runs came on weird soft hits/bad defense not to mention getting squeezed a bit too. Throw in the cold rainy day and I think the Bullpen can be forgiven for this one.
Well, a wet and dreary night it was. Almost got the comeback; worked hard for it, but you can tell the conditions helped out a bit. We're still the only team in the MLB that hasn't scored first in a game this year, and we have the worst run differential. It's always a bad feeling to get swept, but we have to be used to it at least. Hopefully coming back for the Home Opener at Coors will get things going. I'm keeping faith, so here we go, Tampa Bay! Boy, Morel’s “defense” is a head shaker. To say that he’s a project is putting it mildly. His throws are the most erratic that I think I’ve ever seen by a major league ballplayer. 😬

I don't see the Cubs making it past better teams at this point. They clearly need a good starter or 2, better relievers, and better consistent batters. This little league series is over and now they have to play the top dogs. A new manager cannot perform magic this this rooster.
