Nate, would you consider doing a little video explaining the machine that helps stabilize the cows while you work on their hooves? I'm fascinated with it! ❤
It’s basically straps that hold the cow up in air so he can lift one foot without putting weight on the others! It would be cool if he made an in depth video though!
@user-xf1dm2te8v Its called a "cow crush" or "cattle chute". So, the cow walks in, the front gate closes with the cows head out of a gap. Straps go under the abdomen and chest, so that if feet need to be picked up, the cow can be supported comfortably on 3 legs. Theres also the device that picks the legs in a hoof trimming crush like Nate has. The device to do this ranges from just a simple blunt hook and rope arrangement you hook around the leg and turn a crank to lift the hoof to the fancy thing Nate has that grips the leg and lifts it all in one motion. This is so the foot can be held steady. Horses are trained from a young age to stand still and lift their feet for hoof cleaning and the farrier, but Im not sure if you could even get cattle to do that (I dont know if they are physically capable of it) This way, the head, rear end and feet are easily accessible for examination and treatment the cow/bull can be supported, and s/he cant thrash about and potentially injure the human or themselves if they become alarmed or something is painful.
Just imagining sapient aliens with hooves like cows, “have you heard of Nate? I only trust him with my hooves, no one else is as gentle and patient. I’ll give you his number so you can book a session with him!”
I don't like it when a cow has problems on two feet, but I love it when a cow goes strolling out of the crush with two matching neon wraps. It's a scene out of a 1980s movie where everyone is wearing leotards and leggings: Flashstance.
Nate, after watching your videos I can NOT stand to watch other hoof trimmers with their horrible knife work!🫣 You are the best imo….Careful, diligent and a great teacher to boot! Great job as usual Sir…..God Bless you and all the bovines you treat.🙏🏼🐮👋🏼🇨🇦
@@humanwreckage4563 The Chinese do this with a very sharp shovel like tool…..It looks like something from the Middle Ages! They make these animals bleed and tie them up to a pole very tight by a ring through one of their. nostrils! They treat the animals with no respect or dignity! Pure animal cruelty and they really don’t care. Just horrible and immensely sad.😢😭 Blessings send form Canada🙏🏼🍀👋🏼🇨🇦
Nate I love your videos. Direct, concise, and no banter. Your videos are absolutely the best because of your professionalism and detail to video recording.
@@Petey0707 "oh no, a RU-vidr is doing something THEY like and not what my entitled ass likes, I'm gonna pout and trash them on another trimmers video"
Iirc he has a LinkedIn profile if you'd like to see his face, and afaik occasionally he'd post update on his private life, where you can see him and his family.
I grew up in the country, not on a farm, but hearing the cows plus the way you work is so relaxing. A funny note is my dentist gave me a Chlorhexidine rinse after some oral surgery to help heal. I thought of your videos when he said that.
one thing that pissed me off some people are making money off of you by using your shorts videos you do the work and they make the money that makes me sick
I started watching hoof trimming about 3 months ago and the rest is history Nate and Grim Parker(hoof GP) are my go to guys by far all the others are gd but Nate and Grim styles of hoof trimming is the best in my book 👏👏👏👏
I would love to see you and the Hoof GP get together to collaborate on trims. The difference between typical trims in the US v. the UK is so fascinating to me!
One day you showed up on my feed, a few years back, no idea why I've subbed that day I don't always watch, but whenever I see your videos in my feed, I start watching a handful of them. Thank you for what you're doing for these babies, keep it up :)
Been subed to your channel for about 6 months.....i dont know why but this is so satisfying to watch you help out these farmers with their cows ......nice work Nate !
Hi Nate, curiosity question. Do you bring your sharpening stuff with you and sharpen as needed, or bring enough extra knives that it won't be a problem and sharpen later?
I watch to goof gp and I gotta say one thing I like about your work you clean the cows foot of all the shit and gunk instead of leaving it .....very clean . I like that . 👌🏻
What’d be neat is a before and after transition of the hoof before any work and after the trimming(but before wrapping) with the hoof in the exact same position and angle so we can just how much has changed over the period of trimming.
❤NATE❤ 🐄 , I notice that you don’t dry off the claw that you plan to apply a block to, with a blow torch , although you do essentially score the claw before you attach the block. Does this depend upon how long you want the block to stay on and What kind of glue you are using? How long does the block generally stay on and is the block a more slippery surface for the cow to walk upon? Especially on a cement floor covered with slurry? It’s dangerous for the poor cow who slips and slides and ends up doing the splits…they’re really not physically built for gymnastics..and can seriously injure themselves..People see the back ankle shackles as cruel, but they really do prevent more serious injuries and may even offer some comfort and stability to the cow…and they can be removed when she’s outside..so she can kick up her heels in the pasture.. Keep up the good work Nate! ❤🇨🇦🙏🏻
Ok, absolute city guy here from Toronto. No idea how these hoof trimming vids got into my feed, but here we are. Anyway, what is the texture of the white coloured hoof material that you carve off? Is it soft? Plastic like? Also, why didn't you scoop out whatever was in that roundish hole in the middle of the cow's hoof? Wasn't that just a ball of infection, so to speak?
The thing in the middle of the hoof seems to be an infected but live tissue - lopping that off would be really painful and pretty pointless as the wrap will kill the infection and allow it to get back to its normal healthy state. And as far as I know, cow hooves are made out of keratin just like our nails and the shavings would be pretty similar in texture.
I don’t know why these videos are ASMR for me. Especially when he’s using the tool to scrape away some of the debris. I never make it past 10 minutes and I’m sleep.
Nate, just a question but after shaving all those hooves and trimming them, why do you not wash them with water? Isn't it more better to try and at least wash them after trimming them or wash them before trimming them?
My question is after youve trimmed the area down to where the problem is and you spray the Chlorhexadine (sp?). Can the cow feel the spray ? Does it give relief? I know the Salisilic powder does, but i was wondering about the spray.
As someone who has used the grinder extensively I wonder How often do you get smacked w a rogue rock or whatever? I know you can control where stuff flies but things can bounce lol
