I love how they say "High standards." I guess play tested, functional games are high standards now.

The ironic thing is the Trilogy's disastrous launch is totally something Rockstar would parody within GTA. Rockstar lived long enough to become that which they mocked.

my favourite part is the fact they call the issues "unexpected" - I guarantee there are lots of emails from Devs / Qa telling senior management the game isn't ready, and they ignored them anyway. When will upper management start actually listen to the people under them? the short-sightedness of these greedy companies amazes me as they won't keep getting away with stuff like this forever.

They aren't sorry because they released a butchered version of 3 classics, they're sorry that they didn't get away with it. It's nothing more than insincere damage control.

I think this is just a case of "see what we can get away with". It's basically a win/win for game companies to release bad products. Under-deliver on a game and one of two things will happen: There will be an uproar or there wont. If there is no uproar, the company just made a ton of money for virtually no effort. If there is an uproar, the company can choose the extent to which they "fix" their product, allocating just enough resources to quell the masses while still maximizing profits. You will still play GTA5 online, you will still buy GTA6, you will still buy RDR3 or Bully 2 or whatever they come out with next. The failure of one secondary product has virtually no effect on their mainline releases.

Absolute genius from Rockstar Games. Make a definitive edition SO shit that people flock en masse to buy your original versions of thirty year old games and then "apologize" for releasing shit game. Almost impressive how evil that is.

Hey everybody. Remember when rockstar openly said they had no problem people modding their games as long it was the single player mode only and not online ? Rockstar is really good at keeping their words.

If Rockstar really loved their fans so much they should’ve hired their most loyal and most talented modders to remaster GTA Trilogy. The amazing modifications I’ve seen these guys do is mind blowing. It’s so upsetting. That would’ve been something groundbreaking for any video game company to do. I really hope they come back. What a shame.

To be fair, things are getting personal when: 1. They ban the mod community 2. Filed a lawsuit against the best mod in the franchise so far 3. Delisting the great original trilogy 4. made us paid the $60 broken toy to my pov, the one needed to be insult are that "multi billion" company, who could handed to themselves remaking their own art.

Personally grew up with Halo: Reach, Left 4 Dead franchise, and Cod. So many memories :’(

I just started a new playthrough of GTA IV recently and you can see how much love and passion they used to have for their games. That game is just oozing with atmosphere and brilliantly designed, and even does a few things better than V.

LittleBigPlanet was the game series I enjoyed back in school. I just loved how unique it's level editor was with the ability to draw the level geometry whilst you were still in the game and that the different materials you could use in making levels like polystyrene which would float in water and sponge which was grabbable. Plus I loved how the game aesthetic was all about fabric and materials.

Grand Theft Auto, Resident Evil, and Tony Hawk were my childhood franchises.

Its definitely a lot of games from Rockstar I grew up playing. From Midnight Club, to GTA, to Bully, to The Warriors. Its such a shame to see how they’ve went from a company thats consumer first to a company that only cares about their pockets.

I hope these modders win this case. Mods are one of the best things to happen to video games as a whole.

Honestly, for me the nostalgia goggles are most powerful with King's Quest. It's the game that made me want to learn english - in order to learn how to EX-a-MINE KN-ife. :) After that we have Heroes of Might and Magic and Baldur's Gate, with honorable mentions to Wolfenstein / Quake. Rockstar can literally fix this by remaking the games from the ground up. Sure it’ll take way longer but look at 2K when Mafia remastered came out.

I grew up on GTA, Need for Speed and Gran Turismo. I would give anything to go back in time and re live those moments again and again. Man it's sad because once you grow up and become an adult, games don't excite you like they used to as a kid, I don't know if it's because they have genuinely got worse or if I'm just getting old.

I grew up with the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Love modding Adventure 1 and 2 as well as the classic games. Just playing the vanilla ones every once in a while is great too. Even some of the spinoffs like Sonic Riders are great experiences for me that I turn to regularly.

The European Court of Justice recently filed, that it is allowed to reverse engineer proprietary software if it is for bugfixing reasons. So essentially the ECJ allowed private persons to decompile every software one has bought in a manner of the right to repair clause. Maybe this helps the guys going against Take2. I really hope so!

“Putting the original games back on PC was literally the nicest thing they could do.” The OG Trilogy was also available on the PS Store. The nicest thing Rockstar could do is put the classics not only back on PC, but on the PS Store as well.

For me its COD, Battlefield and GTA and well all three has turned to be like 2077 😂 but to be fair I lowered my expectations and enjoyed at least one mode from all 3 games but its still sad how gaming is turning out to be nowadays

Muta saying "watching my cousin play GTA on his pc" reminded me of how my gaming experience was just sitting next to my older cousin while he played whatever game he was playing on his pc. Max Payne, Transformers, Devil May Cry, Skyrim... Of all those games, Sims 3 was one of the games I decided to try myself... And DMC4 too I guess

I grew up with a lot of games but the ones that always stood out as my all time favorite series are in this order: Halo, Fallout, Mass Effect and GTA

My favorite games from my childhood, they were probably Gran Turismo (mostly 4), Sim City (mostly 4), and Animal Crossing. I wish I had all these old games I love emulated on PC.

I grew up on gran turismo, Pokémon, little big planet. Those 3 game series I played the most as a kid and still play today.

Here’s how Take #2 can fix this. - Dismiss the Lawsuits. - Allow officially approved mods via a store like Bethesda. - Renew licenses for original soundtrack. People get good games, modders get paid, no lawsuits, and everybody is happy. Seems simple to me.

Tbh I fully believe them when they claim this was unexpected, I truly think they didn't think this was going to be that big of a deal and would just be a nice way to supplement their income, that's why they just gave it to such a low tier development team, and then when the release happened and they realized their negligence came with a price, they all collectively shit their pants and went into damage control mode. The problem is even if they fully fix it and make it what it should have been there's still going to be people that are understandably burned and at the very least will be highly reluctant to buy future products from Rockstar, truly this company is a shadow of it's former self.

Sonic was the franchise I distinctly remember growing up with. Loved the series of games that came out

Friendly PSA that you can still buy working G2A keys for the old Steam versions, *and* it's slightly cheaper than the "Definitive" edition. As long as you don't mind sorting some bugs out with modding, it's the far better value, since you can manually downgrade those versions to work with older, otherwise defunct mods.

I grew up playing the Sims series. I started with 2. I also grew up with the Super Nintendo so I was able to play Lion King, Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, and Aladdin. I was unfortunately was always too young to play the GTA series. My mom didn't even like the small blood puddles that appear after your skater gets hurt in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4. Me and older sister would always play that together, she's only two years older so we were close, playing video games was one of the things we did together as kids.

I grew up on the God of War series First game I played was God of War: Ghost of Sparta on the PSP.

I grew up on DOOM series. Still play classic ones, love DOOM 2016 and Eternal, and I even like DOOM 3. And I love ID Software even more now because they, let's say, keep showing middle finger to companies like EA and Take Two/R*. They allowed and even encouraged modding of classic DOOM games and this is why classic DOOM still have pretty big community out there. And they don't hunt DOOM Eternal modders with lawsuit gun either. They also interact with their community instead of staying in complete silence. Oh, and what did you say, EA Games? "Primarily Singleplayer games with no microtransactions are doomed (no pun intended) to failure"?

The worst part for me was seeing the dough-nuts being literal circles, no flat surfaces on both, it was so annoying because that was the only frame that I was allowed to see if the game as I was over at my moms friends house and her husband was playing the game, that was my first real experience (although not knowing it) with any of the GTA games, really hurt to see it tarnished by the studio that developed one of the best selling games in the world, they couldn’t put the care into restoring the memories of childhood

Rockstar is very well on the edge of dying out. Literally the golden age of their games is gone, they can release 6 but it’ll just be 5 with mods no matter how much improvements are made. It’s sad and a reminder how much time has passed.

Oh I grew up with a ton of games mainly racing, fps, open world adventure and all the classics back to early 90's.

for me it was Hasbro Interactive, their game Glover was one of the first games i've ever played and stuck with for a while, still brings back good but also kinda rage moments from my past.

The game franchise that I grew up with was the elder scrolls franchise I always loved it because you had so many different selections play styles and character customization in the game and the world was so big and had so many different quests and in-depth characters

The GTA Trilogy DE is the latest in the line of games being rushed out to celebrate anniversaries, when consumers care more about getting a quality title then whether or not it's released during the anniversary

That case won’t be a precedent one mainly because Take Two actually used some of their code and this isn’t usually the case. This can be interpreted as an approval on their side since they didn’t ask the content to be taken down at this point and it falls on Rockstar to prove that it wasn’t one. To help their case they can also try to prove that Rockstar issued takedowns solely because of the release of the Remake, which, if proven true, would almost guarantee a win for the devs. It kind of depends on the lawyer and how capable he is

I'm a game dev and I don't understand why take two or game companies just work with the modders? If I had my own game and had a whole community modding it for free? I would work with them and even pay them, because they are enhancing the gameplay experience of my game FOR FREE!

When Command and Conquer announced its remaster they did so on community forums and mod forums and reach out to modders and fans to help make the Remaster Epic. That is how you do remasters right.
