A lot of people told me "Why would you want to spend your time making a video of the popup plant? There's not a lot of money being made on them and they're not as popular as something like mini lites or geo props" I could only say "Why not?" in response.
It just didn't feel right making the trip down WITHOUT touring the facilities for the #1 most popular popup brand on the market today! I'm actually glad I did too as I really got to see how while Rockwood's popups are certainly built differently than their travel trailers (as they should be) the methods often remain the same!
You see similar pre-staging of multiple pieces and materials. Similar wiring processes, and a similar discipline here not like that you'd see up on their Signature Ultralite luxury trailer and fifth wheel lines!

I know this is 2 years old but just wanted to say thanks for the tour. We pick up our new to us Rockwood popup camper next Saturday. We are getting a 2022 Rockwood Freedom 1940LTD. I have watched a lot your videos and they are really informative and entertaining. It really helped us make a decision about what we needed and wanted. It really is great to be able to see what Rockwood does to build their pop up campers.

This is why I love your channel! You don’t just do the big expensive campers, you do them all and even though I’m only interested in fifth wheels, I appreciate and enjoy all your videos especially the folding campers. I just enjoy looking at all of them, you never know which one will give you an idea for your own rig! We started out our camping life in pop ups and have some great memories of camping in them with the kids. Thanks Josh!

A lot of dealers just don't "mess with" popups. We've always had them in our lineup and likely will. The dealers that carry them do well with them & seem to be sold out

Very interesting tour of the plant. I noticed that made a point to make sure that seams are always maintained. This was interesting to me because there are people on forums and youtube that have really bad leaks due to the seams . Some of them are on fairly new, 2021,2022 rockwod popups. It's a huge project to take on for the average person. Why , in your opinion , would these seams be failing so quickly only after two or three years of use? In my case, I have a 2019 Rockwood premier 2514G and the seams are leaking on three sides when I opened it up yesterday, yet it was fine when closed in October.. Forest River will not fix it because they only warranty the roof for three years. The service advisor said they would have to tear it down and rebuild it at a cost of approx 5k, depending on what they find !!! Do you happen to know if Forest River sells and ships a complete roof assembly? If yes, that might be most cost effective, I don't know...Thanks in advance..

I am so over the 50 shades of gray which seems to be the only interior choice for RV interiors and cushions for about the last century or so. I miss the wider color pallet choice which used to be common 30 or 40 years ago. Reds, blues, greens, oranges, yellows, tans and so on. I remember when cray started becoming the Prominent inter color choice almost to the exclusion of any other colors. How many new trailers do you have which are not grey or dark brown on the interior fabrics? That is a big reason I am the fan of the ‘Retro’ trailer models. It’s good to see the bright and multi toned color pallet they often come with.

I was disappointed though that your tour videos did not focus on ultra lite construction. I realize it is not possible to cover everything but I am considering a purchase of an ultra lite and thought you might have covered that.

I wasn’t able to make a COMPLETE sweep in the time I had, but one of the recurring themes I was attempting to showcase was Rockwood’s consistency The construction of a Rockwood trailer is essentially the same from geo, to mini, ultra, and Signature The only noteworthy difference on an Ultralite would be their drop frame chassis really

I am most excited for this video! I sell RVs in Vermont and Rockwood pop-ups are a home brand. I haven't seen anything that touches this quality, and they are trying new ideas, adding new features, I just think they're great. My favorite thing Rockwood added on their 2021 ESP models is the solar package. I expect to see more solar powered RVs from Rockwood over the coming years.

Their smallest pop up is the mac 176 Ltd. We just purchased ours and love the compact simplicity. It offers many modern updates such as power lift, 3 way fridge and solar prep. Very reasonably priced too. Hope you find your dream pop up.

Man.. that's like asking me which of my kids I like the best lol You're talking about two of my favorite brands here.. let me think about it 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Okay.. I think I can best say it like this • If you took EVERY feature/widget/concept/execution/price tag and could somehow average all that out mathematically, then I think Rockwood overall is probably the best "pound for pound" brand out there.. _but..._ • I don't know they are the best at fifth wheels specifically • Cougar is THE #1 fifth wheel brand by volume out there and has been so many times. it's really their specialty • And.. when I look at the layouts I feel the 23MLE is a stronger layout overall So, between those two... I would _personally_ go with the Cougar But I highly encourage you to consider your own factors to get the RV best fit for YOU and not best fit for ME if that makes sense

Pop ups still have a place in camping, not as big as it was once. Manufacturers have gotten really good at making small lightweight hard side campers, I think that has really eaten away at the pop up market more than anything, just my opinion. Thanks to Josh for doing these tours, to Haylett RV for allowing him to do them, and to Rockwood as well as the other companies that allow him to have access to do them.

This one is particularly interesting because the factory tours for "traditional" trailers (i.e. towables, fifth wheels, etc) all start to look very similar after a while, where as pop-ups are a totally different animal. I'm also particularly interested because I'm currently renovating my 1993 Starcraft (while I wait for the RV market to stabilize/normalize) and it's fascinating to see what is under the skin of pop-ups. It's also interesting to realize that despite all the innovations and new materials, things like the platforms, supports, and pole framing for the actual pop-out 'tent' ends have not changed significantly in 25-30 years. Rockwood/Forest River really do make some of the best pop-ups in the industry, and it's really just their interior color schemes that are different between the two. The only downside is that they so dominate the market that the pricing and mark-ups have really gotten out of hand (even before the pandemic). The price gap between pop-ups and small hard-sided trailers is really non-existent despite significantly less materials and workmanship required in pop-up trailers.

I loved my pop up, but the biggest complaint from my partner was the lack of storage, and so it meant I had to load and unload almost everything each time. I would love to check out a new unit and see what a modern one is equipped like now. Ours was an early ‘90’s model, and I would have upgraded the fridge to a 12v model, and added a atv winch instead of the hand winch to raise it. I removed the sink and water tanks to add storage, and used totes in the walkway when moving and put them up on the counter top when parked. Thanks Rockwood!

You blew it with the LED speed argument. Using your own number of 5ms faster for the LED, at 88 feet/second (at 60 MPH. 5280x60/3600=88) the difference is 0.44 feet, or 5.28 inches. (88 feet / 200, 200 being the number of 5ms periods in a second). So yes, using your 5ms advantage of LED, you would see the light 5.28 inches sooner. I like LED because of reliability, longevity, vibration tolerance, cost, cool temperatures, and energy usage. But the speed advantage is of little benefit to mortal human beings. Other than that, nice informational video. BTW, I know this fast guy that can turn off the lights and be in bed before it's dark. ;-)

They werent running a-frames during my visit, but if you take the floor construction seen here and add something like a mini lite’s walls you’re pretty much there

Josh, most popups come with heat and air these days. I didn't see in the video, do they put insulation in the walls and top on popups? Even with the tent looks like some insulation would help on heating and cooling. Thanks to Rockwood, Haylett and you for the tours? Great job!

Hi Josh. The RU-vid algorithm is giving me the Pro Pride Hitch add every time I click on one of your videos. I know you have done anti sway hitch videos in the past but since people are being flooded with adds for this company thought you may want to talk about this one and how it compares to others ? The adds have dramatic crash or near crash videos of out of control trailers to get your attention then say there equipment is unique and no one else is using it ? Thanks
