Even if you're not an Arsenal fan, Wrigty is just a likable character. Top player in his day but ultimately he has a heart of gold. The man is greater than the player.
Thinks he's God's gift the crap he said about his son sean when at man city got him shown the door lives in a bubble like most of em but will always make money because of mugs like you
@Gods Grace Or Mans Synthetic Manipulation no but I've heard of a mug ive just messaged him and there's no room in this world for prejudice against dyslexia...u've just proven your a spiteful little retch which you've probably been told a few times
@Gods Grace Or Mans Synthetic Manipulation people like you with prejudice are as bad as rasist you should not be on here with your English o level...rasism and prejudice is the same thing you need to take a long look in the mirror i pity you you need to listen to imagine by john Lennon it may make you a better person
I met David on a flight back from Australia a couple of years before he paseed. I saw him sat in first class and as a football fan I asked if I could sit next to him and ask him about his career. He said yes and he was an absolute gentleman.. .
I am Italian, I love football since I was born, and I have never heard about your British player Rocastle, before this video.... I confess that I am still crying, God has chosen well, great player and great man, RIP Rocky Thanks to Uncle Wright, God bless you
Watching this again, 2 years after my first watch. To me this isn't a football story, This is a story of human friendship and a lesson in rising above the hand you've been dealt to achieve greatness. To call Ian Wright an Arsenal Legend is selling him short, He's a National Treasure.
Millwall fan here. I didnt think I would get through all of that. A brilliant documentary. Wrighty and Rocky. Football Legends! I would be a liar if I didnt admit it brought a tear to my eye. I never knew he and Wright were mates from the off. Learning Millwall turned him down brought another tear! RIP Rocky!
Who can dislike this video? I'm a Spurs fan and this video is a great testimony about humbleness, perseverance, friendship and footballing skills. RIP Rocky
David Rocastle’s kids can be very proud of their dad. He was truly an amazing person and he achieved so much in his tragically short life. Rest in peace David Rocastle.
The fact that those kids said "Ian Wright".... despite being too young to have had any idea of the man's career or impact says an awful lot. Ian Wright, one of our greatest footballers ever!
David Rocastle's brother on the Arsenal side that won the 1988/89 First Division: "Just a team of mates who happened to be playing for one of the biggest football clubs in the world." Beautiful! And a million miles away from the corporate brandfest of the modern professional game. What a magnificent cast of strong, inspiring characters in this documentary: Rocky, Wrighty, Tony Adams, Michael Thomas, George Graham, David Dein (how great it would be to have someone like that in the Arsenal boardroom today, a true lover of the club and the game), Arsenal legends all, as well as Rocastle's lovely family and friends. A great documentary and a fitting tribute.
Worldly concerns I could not put it better. Lucky to have spent time with both, my cousins knew them. Respect Rocky RIP, Respect Wrighty both legends and inspirations to all .
@Samuelson baker he was a winger, a winder with flair and ahead of his time.... Many people who watched him then said he is what we now see as a modern day winger. totally different game back then.
Even after 16 years Ian Wright can still barely speak of his friend without the tears being close to the surface. Rocky was his brother on every level and remains very much missed. I worked with some Spurs fans back in 2001 and one of them was at the game featured in this documentary... on the Monday I went up to him and shook his hand in acknowledgement of just superbly observed the minute's silence was that day. We are a football family and times like this the best of us comes out... David Rocastle RIP
I lost a childhood friend 10 years ago and I was welling up when Wrighty spoke about Rocky's death. When you're friends with someone for so long and they die, it's like losing a brother
Ian Wright is very close to his emotions, For me that is an excellent quality. Venting emotions instead of bottling them up is good for someones mental health. We need more people like Ian Wright for men to know its ok to occasionally get emotional. There's a big difference between a Cry-Baby and an occasional venter.
I was at a Peterborough United match when the PA announced the death of Rocky, and there was silence and a huge sense of shock. He was liked by fans everywhere he played.
As a life long palace fan I remember the match against Blackburn very clearly. The announcer said "substitution for palace , Ian Wright is making his debut" , we all said " who the f is Ian wright" ? 10 minutes later we were promoted as champions , I went over fence to celebrate with the players and got covered in Steve coppells champagne. The greatest football match I ever had the privilege to attend . Thank you Ian 😊
I must say as a man United supporter, and with all the respect for Rocky, Ian Wright is one of my favourite footballers, an honest man, speak the truth with no fear, down to earth as no other star, and of course a brilliant footballer. respect Wrighty!
How lucky we were to have Rocky and Wrighty play for us...great great great times !!!!!! Its not just that they played for Arsenal but you really can't dislike Wrighty !!
David Rocastle comes across as the most unbelievably likeable guy. So very talented as a player yet humble and considerate. Wonderful bloke. The same can be said for Wrighty. I didn't like his early punditry, but realise now he was just learning the ropes: he is a perfect pundit now, full of character, knowledge and honesty. To experience how loved Wrighty and Rocky are in England, demonstrates, despite a tiny minority of idiots, that every country has - how racially harmonious we are in football here.
I've been avoiding any Rocastle's documentary. Frankly, I still have not recovered from my sadness about his death. He should be around my age enjoying life with his family and friends. Such a lovely man and a great football player. I am sure like myself the rest of my fellow Gooners miss him so much!
Right. You're telling me that Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford, Jayden Sancho, Hector Bellerin, Raheem Sterling and Troy Deeney don't care? Not only do players in the Premier look out for each other, but the wider football community has become aware of and raised issues such as child poverty, racial injustice, women's rights, LGBTQ equality, men's mental health, teen suicide, social media bullying and harassment, women's reproductive rights, environmental issues, even survivors of the Grenfell Towers have been recognised and remembered in charity football games by top flight players. Fans have more access to their heroes today more than ever through online club forums, social media and the work that club members do in the wider community. Football is a truly universal sport that unites people from all backgrounds, all races and all creeds and it's down to the players and the clubs.
@@desrobafc Ha...just pointing out that footballers care in today's world as opposed to your idea that there was a day when footballers seemed to care more. Fans still have heroes.
RIP David Rocastle. I met Ian Wright back in March 2008 and he is a good guy and it's a bonus that I am a Arsenal fan as well because Ian Wright is my favourite footballer of all time.
I’m Spurs but also a Brockley boy. Got my haircut by Paul the barber as a kid and always saw Rocky’s photo in there on the wall. Cried at the end of this. RIP.
I went to that game against Spurs as an Arsenal mad 7 year old and seeing this has brought tears streaming down my face. You could hear a pin drop anywhere in the stadium that day. His name was sang from the bottom of every Gooner's heart for the rest of the Highbury era. What a wonderful example of a human being. Heroes never die. RIP Rocky
This docu made me think of childhood, a lost friend and that football once was the greatest game invented. I want my childhood, friend and football back
I’m Tottenham through and through and was at all of the NLDs during Rocastle’s time. He was an amazing player and one who us Spurs fans had admiration for. I also happen to have been born in south London in 1967 and could relate to Rocky - thanks for putting this documentary up.
In the worldwide arena of football, Rocky Rocastle was one of the true entertainers. Loved so dearly because he was an absolute gentleman. Deeply sad that he left us so young. R.i.p David, you are still a hero and a legend. ❤
I’m so appreciative of the wonderful storytelling about two Arsenal legends. Two legends of the game. I was struck by David Dein describing Robert Pires scoring the Rocky goal while wearing the number 7. then Rocky’s son saying that people would come up thru the academy dreaming of playing on the right wing and wearing the Arsenal number 7 that, years later, us Arsenal supporters to have the privilege of watching Bukayo Saka and every week 🥹. Wonderful storytelling. RIP Rocky
Today's Arsenal Board and Administrators are as far removed from Arsenal Football Club as they could possibly be. They probably don't even know who Rocky is. But to all supporters of all clubs, if a local lad comes through, makes it into the first team, goes on to represent themselves, the club, the area and the country with pride, that is all any fan could ever ask for. RIP Rocky, a special footballer and person. Shame on you Arsenal, my club have really shamed themselves.
There some players you see in an era that touch your heart, David Rocastle was one! Beautiful footballer, handsome guy with the Midas touch........ never ever to be forgotten!
i'm a malaysian gooner who only started diligently following after the invincibles. it warms my heart so much to hear that malaysia was such a bright spot in Rocky's life post Arsenal.
I'm a Newcastle fan but even I had goose bumps all the way through that. Rocastle was pure class & as fanciful as it was Wrighty was always one of my dream signings. Great documentary, thanks for the upload ArsenalTerje. RIP David Rocky Rocastle.
I’ve watched this programme 4 or 5 times, it hurts every time. I was stationed in Germany when we won the league at Anfield, I remember that fiery look of determination on Rockys face and the clenched fist........ I knew we were going to win that night when I saw his fiery determination. A year later I was stationed in The UK, great memories standing on the North Bank chanting oh Rocky Rocky, Rocky Rocky Rocky Rocastle,!!. Thanks for bringing those memories back Wrighty and the class of 87 - 91-92. Good times 😎👍
Great video. What a player Rocky was and a side of Ian Wright you don't see when talking about matches. To see him talk with such affection about his good mate when he was told he had cancer was truly moving. A well deserved and respectful tribute about two young men from tough upbringings who both made big. The stuff dreams are made and they should do more documentaries like this, simply brilliant.
ROCKY!!!! The reason I am a proud GOONER!!! He was Arsenal summed up in 1 human being - never say die attitude that we miss today and was tough and played with heart - he and this team were the reasons I started following the team as a South African!!!! And then Wrighty came who is my number one Arsenal player of ALL TIME - LOVED HIS PASSION FOR THE SHIRT. Our team now could learn from them both!!!! LOVE YOU WRIGHTY!!!! RIP Rocky!!!! Forever in our hearts.....
Everyone's commenting that footballers aren't loyal now, but you forget that clubs have not been very loyal as well. A player has an injury patch and they're shipped away, just like that. It happens time and time again.
You are very correct. Players should be able to do what they want. Top clubs often ship players out as soon as they are injured or don't hit the ground running. I can think of so many like Gotze at Bayern, Kezman at Chelsea, Shevchenko at Chelsea, Bergkamp at Inter. Once they didn't really perform they were transferred away. Even those that were loyal and played well were still transferred away like Pato at Milan. I feel like City are waiting for January transfer window or the summer to see what they can do about Mahrez or even Sterling should he loose form or should they find better.
Jose fell on that sword! he treated his injured players and the female physio terribly and that is the day he stopped being the special one and became a knob! He was always a knob of course but he was special before that.
I'm 43 and remember watching rocky throughout his career.he gave a 100% in every game which was great.im.not ashamed to admit I had tears running down my face at the end of this doc
Sadly Rocky was ahead of my time, but I know he was a great man, not only a great footballer. I wish I could've seen him play. He'll forever be a legend for Arsenal. Rocky, gone far too soon RIP❤
Wow! Even years later with all the superb players we have had at Arsenal Rocky is still and forever will be a very special player in my heart and every other gooner. This is a brilliant docu from having a smile on my face reliving Rocky and Wrighty gifting us magical times as fans. But towards the end it really puts a lump in the throat because it still hurts that Rocky passed away so young when he had given so much. I was so angry and couldn’t understand why Arsenal sold him. This docu kind of puts at least some explanation into the transfer, though I would have loved Rocky to have started and ended his career with us. To hear what his reaction was to having a transfer fee accepted is heartbreaking enough even without his loss to his family, friends, Arsenal and football itself. Thank you, to the RU-vidr for putting this amazingly emotional and fantastic vid on for us to see. RIP Rocky...forever & ever in our hearts and a true Arsenal legend that gave so many great memories to all that remember the ball wizard David ( Rocky ) Rocastle and thank you for giving us the chance to see you play!
I remember sitting next to him at the back of the stand at Palace several times. Just a nice fella watching a mate RIP Rocky, still emotional watching this years later.
This documentary of football i have seen has to be the most if not the number 1 I have seen absolutely amazing and tbh I never realised how close wright and rocky was much love and sorry for your loss Ian Wright R.I.P ROCKY so much love and so much respect always we will always miss you❤❤❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What a pair of absolute massive Legends for my lifelong club, the Arsenal, I'm old enough to have watched both of them so I love them both dearly. Losing Rocky to that horrible disease is absolutely tragic, us older Gooners miss him dearly, it genuinely bought a tear to my eye watching this.
A fantastic documentary about 2 great childhood friends, who grew up to be legends at one of the greatest football clubs (ARSENAL FC) in the world.Sadly cancer took our Rocky far to early, but can never take our memory of a great person, footballer.. always remembered.
Great documentary but terribly sad in the last ten minutes. I was extremely lucky to see most of David's home games for Arsenal and although he will always be remembered for his skills he really used to get stuck in too. A guy that gave it everything every time he played. Just feel so sorry for his family but if there is any comfort for them it is that he is spoken of still in such high esteem. Thanks David, I can never forget you.
Rocky. One of the most talented and technically gifted footballers I've ever seen put on an Arsenal shirt. He gave it his all for the club and truly cared about the club. God I miss you Rocky, rest in peace you legend 🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💔💔💔💔💔
I'm a Irish avfc fan 🍀 the documentary was so touching so inspiring so genuine so heartfelt so heartbreaking so incredibly inspirational so beautiful 💚
I must say, as an Arsenal fan from birth I never really appreciated how much of a legend David Rocastle is. I was only young when he passed away and wasn't born when he was in his prime years with us but after watching this, I felt enormous sadness. Seemed like everyone loved him and he has been missed ever since. RIP Rocky x s
Wonderful documentary & I love the real emotion & respect that everyone had for David Rocastle a truly humble, good & likeable gentleman. Also to Ian Wright for talking about his childhood friend & their journey in football upto playnig for Arsenal. God bless Rocky’s soul. 🙏🌹 (Sheff wed fan)
David Dein’s story about having a photo of Rocky in his wallet instead of one of his wife. Really says everythin about what a top bloke and incredible footballer he was
Just so many great things to say about this video. A testament to everyone concerned and a piece of moving film. Well done everyone. Football, bloody hell. Pity there was no interview of him before he passed. Seemed like a great bloke.
Watching this is great to see Ian talking and believing and he certainly was a London lad done good.He excited the arsenal fans and boy growing up watching him on the pitch even as a Utd fan was fantastic fast, explosive runs and an amazing goal scorer .It was while playing for palace that his talent was picked up on by arsenal, what I love about this story is that local lad running out at Highbury and becoming an Arsenal hero the rest is history I feel in today’s game you don’t seem to get that core of local lads playing for their team with such demands to succeed today. Football forever
my mum went to shool with rockys sister, Sydenham girls in the late 80s. its mad I grew up in brockley aswell I went to a nursery called hillyfields, dunno if its there today but was a great area I love south londion, live in Crayford now, pikeyville.
im brighton but these guys i have so much respect. im from brixton. just so hard to get out the estates that we were from. respect. love rockys absolute conviction wrighty would make it. class.
Great documentary which showed how 2 humble but ambitious South London boys made it big but never forgot their Brockley roots. I'm a Palace fan but when Wrighty got his move to Arsenal I was happy for him especially as he'd been knocked back as a kid. As for Rocky what a top class player and human being he was. When he'd broken through at Arsenal and Wrighty was struggling he was willing his mate to get a contract. RIP Rocky and Wrighty you're a legend.
