Our latest model is the all-black Rocrow, developed over several years for the western market. It’s designed for falcons and hawks in the 450-1200g (16-43 oz) range. It’s a tough, simple, low-cost model capable of flying in a confined landscape. It has a 93cm moulded wing with a carbon spar running from wingtip to wingtip for maximum strength. The wing has an inner dihedral shape to give it both stability and manoeuverability, and a natural appearance. The tail has no control surfaces and is easily replaceable. The tough foam head absorbs impacts, stoops and bites and is sacrificial and is easy to replace when it’s worn out. The battery change system is fast and easy and the shipping box doubles as a flight box, holding all your bits and pieces so that you don’t leave any items behind. Its stabilizer, which can be turned on and off, allows for an easy hands free launch which means that a skilled falconer can launch the Rocrow and, while it is climbing, pick up his falcon and unhood without the need for an assistant. For people who fly their falcons with trailing jesses, the Rocrow has a safety mesh fitted as standard to stop jesses (or leg mounted transmitters) from entering the fan.
The Rocrow has an all-up weight of 650g, about the same as a large crow. Depending on the skill of the pilot, it has an average climb rate of 4.5 m/sec compared to the Robara’s climb rate of 3m/sec. However it is harder to fly at altitudes above 200 metres (660 feet) because it is smaller and black making it difficult to see.
