Your not supposed to be lay the line down your supposed to use the long rod to hold the light line off the water and above the current while following the fly with your rod tip. In western fly you mend the line. It's called the tenkara triangle with rod, line and water forming the triangle.
Excellent review of your new rod and line. I enjoyed watching the line twitch when trout had a go at your fly. The river looks a lot like the Goulburn River here in Victoria, Australia. Will try there when the streams reopen in September. Cheers, Steve.
Ninja, thats a nice rod. I just spent a 4 days fishing trout and I watched them blow up in the evening on the bugs. I am going to get this for sure. I still have a lot to learn about fly fishing, but it sure looks fun.
