I don’t understand all the negative comments on here because the man has a hobby he loves. Kudos to the man for being more than just a musical artist. Obviously an artist through and through. Awesome layout!!
Did yiu know Rod was ‘discovered on a train platform in London ? He was singing and a record label dude heard him and the rest is history! See the connection there? Trains ?
My Dad had model trains his whole life.Any house we lived in had to have a big basement for his train layout. Many people have the same passion, as obviously, Rod does.
His layout has been featured in Model Railroader twice. I have both issues. He would build the buildings after concerts. He would take the kits with him and build them in motels after he did a show. He recently moved his layout from California to the UK.
Model Railroading really is for everyone. Many people are shocked that such star power could be model train enthusiasts but im actually shocked it isn't more popular in Hollywood.
I had no clue that Rod Stewart is a model railroad enthusiast! I've been one since my early childhood; my father had built a layout for my oldest brother for Christmas when he was five, so the layout was part of the family long before I was (I'm 77 now). I vowed I would have my own layout when I grew up and I kept the promise to myself. While my brother's layout was O Scale, I lived in an apartment and then a small house, so I hadn't room for a large layout. I made the 200 buildings on it from kits (and a bit of kit bashing), had 13 switch tracks on it, a trolley running down the business district downtown, a farm, and over 500 people milling around various spots on it. It broke my heart when I finally had to give it up due to downsizing, but I'll never forget the many hours I spent creating it (like all model railroaders, I never did really finish it) and making up stories to go with the people, to keep my youngest son amused while I worked on it. I am probably one of Rod's biggest fans; I've seen him in concert many times and own most of his music either on CDs and/or MP3s. Now I have yet another reason to love him!!!
I am glad for Rod that his train layout safely made the trip from California to Brittian! Rod had American trains previously but now I see he also has a British Rail Deltic diesel locomotive and other British trains. "Keep On Tracking Rod!". Roger Daltrey is also a train buff and is starting a Model Railway Museum in Kent, England.
Rod Stewart is amazing. We all got to see and read what he was doing with a featured article in Model Railroader magazine. His HO model layout is awesome and the article explained most of the scenery and buildings were built up by Stewart. It said in the article that Stewart would take some of his hobby projects on the Road with him and spend time building them in his hotel rooms when not performing on stage. Thanks for this video and take care.
Rod has had two feature articles on his layout in Model Railroader Magazine. His layout is HUGE. He takes projects on tour to work on when he has spare time.
Thx for the update! I remember the Model Railroad issue that highlighted his layout a few years back. Also remember the part about the apron Rod would wear when working on projects while on tour so he wouldn't lose any small parts to the ground.
The more more I watch the news, the more I like watching trains... I'll bet they're both really popular with the grandkids too... I'd have never wanted to leave that room.
God love you and Jules, Rod! Model trains are such fun. It's an amazing and completely addictive hobby, which I have just started. I cannot match your incredible layouts - long way to go yet! - but it's all about the journey!😊
The World's GREATEST Hobby and a quite serious and expensive hobby at that which is filled with technology. Us modelers don't "play" with trains like kids, we RUN trains and there's a very distinct difference. Rod built a stunning HUGE layout in his home that's been featured in Model Railroader Magazine so it's quite serious and a joyous hobby to be in.
As a life-long model train guy I have all respect for Rod. I was asked once who helped my built my large N scale layout. I said, nobody helped me, I did every single thing myself. And I have to say, it's a work of fuckin art! Also, don't call it a train set. A train set is what you put around a Christmas tree. I have a model railroad.
I had no idea about Rod's love for trains. What I have always known, is that he was one of grittiest and most soulful rock vocalists in history. Very cool vid!!
It's funny, I first got into Blondes Have More Fun while I building a large part of a model train layout back in 1991! When I hear that album today, I think back to that fun time spent in my old basement!
I always knew that Rod Steward liked trains and was a modeler. I didn't know Jools Holland did too. Holland was the original keyboard play in the band Squeeze. Squeeze had hits like "Cool for Cats", "Tempted", and "Another Nail in My Heart". I loved seeing those Chicago & Northwestern F-units. I saw a lot of them in commuter service when I was growing up in the Chicago area.
Wow! Were those CNW F7a and b units pulling that freight consist?! I actually bumped into Rod Stewart walking down Michigan Ave a couple decades ago now. Awesome dude. Most people that love trains are 🙂.
Lionel is more of a "toy" train, not to scale at all. But he did pretty much save Lionel trains from going out of business, for those who like that type of train.
I can’t help but to remember Rod Stewarts very earliest MTV music video “Hot Legs”. The video was shot at what appeared to be a railroad station and on the rail tracks. It was an excellent music video. Thanks Rod!
Yep, no trains but some tracks at what looked like abandoned old station... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AHcjjxYbgNM.html&start_radio=1
Huh. Wouldn't have guessed, but not surprised. Seems like if it gets brought up in conversation, most people know someone who has trains. That looks like an awesome layout- he must've worked on it for many years.
There are NO "Hobo's" in Britain unless you want to end up in jail, or the morgue. You're not even allowed on a Railway track, & ALL railways in Britain are fenced for safety & security reasons by LAW.
