An extended, rambling review of the new Rode NTH-100. It's pretty good for the price, yes indeedy. But is it better than the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro? Well, no not really - but watch the video, it's a lot more nuanced.

In that little bag of colored thingies that came in the box there also is a little black plug intended to seal the unused cable jack. Leaving the unused jack empty noticeably changes the bass response, making it somewhat thicker. After you break your pair in, try it and see. Cheers!

Rode was definitely going for content creation, streaming, podcasting, etc... Their frequency response curve is definitely not the Harman target, or anything even resembling it, so that's good in that case. It's not often you find neutral headphones with useful features in this price range. I can't wait to see what ear pad options companies come up with.

the headphones do not have the same impedance as the RODE NTH 100 which has an impedance of 32 ohms, it is better to compare with slightly more similar headphones, if we take a closed headphone of 32 ohms it must be compared with other closed 32 ohm headphones while listening to the same music with the same equipment

Most careful, diligent and focused analysis. Everything concluded after 13:50 is spot on and worth listening to. I got the Rode couple of days ago, and have been checking each and every review only to figure out the purpose of the NTH-100 for myself. Because these are absolutely no go for recording or monitoring precision-audio. The sound is muddy and veiled. Yet these are extremely comfortable for longer periods of time. I think you suggested very well that the best use could be for video editing. In another review I could hear the spill as quite audible, so I do agree there as well. Since my intended purpose was for recording singing vocals, the Rode NTH-100 will go back. Although, I will try to find another use and enjoy the good fit and comfort if I can for this relatively lower price tag. Thanks for the trouble you took for all the comparison.

Thanks very much! Yeah it’s a shame, I really wanted to like these more than I do.

Don't get me wrong, I appriciete your efforts on the review and I happen to have the same cans. my NTH-100 is on its way to join the collection. but - it's not quite fair to compare those to your older headphones without giving the NTH-100 a proper time of AT LEAST 24 hours of burn-in. as for HD600, those are my favorite, I wasn't expecting those to get close to their sound quality indeed.

Not the highest quality review but at least you know what you are talking about. Clicked like. Too many rubbish NTH100 reviews on YT and I blame Rode not sending review units to proper headphones reviewers but instead sent them to podcasters. Many manage to make a 10-ish mins video and not talking about its sound quality and signatures, not even once. They are so unqualified they make your video seem stunning. Good job mate.

Cheers! Maybe I'll script out future reviews.

I think their target audience for these is podcasters though, so it makes sense to send them to those folks.
