hi. great review. really love the sound quality of the rode wireless pro. btw, does the gain assist, whether its set on auto or dynamic, also work on the transmitter's internal recording? that is, is the setting still in effect even though i only record on the transmitter independent of the receiver? thanks 😊
So glad you liked the video! As far as I can tell the internal recording does not take on the gain assist feature set. I believe thats more computed on the receivers end as it goes into the camera or external audio recorder.
Does the 32-bit float apply also to the lav mic going into the transmitter or if the mic l lavalier distorts will the onboard recording still be distorted or it has to be directly into the transmitter for the 32-bit to work?
I have these and if you shout into the mic and cause the mic itself to be overloaded you will still distort the audio, but the 32bit works with anything going into the transmitter, so you won't clip the recording if you don't over load the microphone. Hope that made sense.
What @roarsy said (Thanks for chiming in!) TLDR: the 32bit applies to anything microphone you plug into it. Just don't blowout the mics capsule limits otherwise that will be recorded.
I love mine! amazing for the price. I use mine as ambient mics at theatre shows and with the 32 bit now I don't have to worry about my levels when a character suddenly shouts. They aren't close enough to overload the mic so I always get good audio. Can't wait to be using them more and more.
I've used my old RODE GO II's for "tap shoe" mics for theatre shows. They did ok, but I've always wanted to put them closer. Now I definitely can especially since the build in mic can sustain so much sound pressure. I was yelling pretty loud in those demonstrations I'm surprised my neighbor didn't call the police lol!
as always a pro video from TLDR, 😁 Nice to hear that Rode is investing in an expansion for a complete TC system I hope they also expand the app to be able to write the LTC in the metadata of the video, then their product will be mature
Hey hey Antonius! Hmm, i'm not sure their app would be responsible for writing LTC into a video file. That would have to be done at the camera level so you would need a camera that either has LTC detection and automatically takes away that audio channel and writes the timecode to the metadata. Or have a camera that does have a timecode port. I'm curious if Luma Fusion will ever add that ability. I guess if enough people ask for it!
Hey hey! It is a standard coldshoe rail: geni.us/QGHz (affiliate link) If you want one that looks more official, here is a more professional looking one: geni.us/VnIyt (affiliate link) Hope this helps!
Hey hey tinylil! I unfortunately do not have any experience with the DJI mic system. They are smaller and seem to clip on better for sure. However if you are looking for a system that is truly amazing for a small clip on mic. You will want to check out the Picomic I reviewed here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zn8bOf7gZzk.html While it does not have internal recording. If you're just recording videos in your own home, it works perfectly fine. I have used them in outdoor wedding situations with my recorder sitting under the front row seats and it got all the sound perfectly. So in home filming situations are not a problem. Hope this helps!
wow, I thought that you had never uploaded a new video for a while, because I never had seen your videos in my suggestion, except for this one. is it the youtube shadow thingy?
Hey hey again vinzaputra! Well I did take a near 6 month hiatus from my last upload and have only just recently begun making content again. So thats probably part of it.
@TLDR Filmmaker, Good to see you making a video on Rode Wireless Pro. With 2 sets, are you able to use 4 TX on 1 RX or only 2 TX to 1 RX? Hope you can do a detailed video on using the app and timecode
What @roarsy said. I have a brief demonstration on the timecode feature in my second video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bAuXVWRalFs.html
The RODE GO II Does not have 32bit float recording, it only exports it into a 32bit file for peoples projects that are edited in 32bit. The main difference is the RODE GO PRO's 32bit float internal recording have a significantly less chance of clipping compared to the RODE GO II internal 24bit recording. If I suddenly shouted into the RODE GO II as I did in this video, the beginning portion would be clipped before the RODE GO II has a chance to readjust itself. Hope this makes sense.
Hey hey! Mine is the same as well, seems like the cold shoe mount on the RODE PRO is a bit thicker. I'm curious too if its a Engineering or Manufacturing Error.
Haha glad you loved the intro! Tried to bring more fun again when I see an opportunity! Hope all is well my friend. I'm finally getting back into Salsa and learning Bachata too!
At this moment in time there is no way to lock the buttons. All you can do is the following. On the TX select the "Ø" button to do "NONE" On the TX select the "Rec" button to be "Always" Now the MUTE is not a problem anymore and then the REC button is set to "always" it cannot be shut off by pressing the transmitter button. Hope this helps.
Hey hey AK media! I'm am not 100% certain about the tentacle sync system... but are you able to jam-sync them? If so you could do it that way, however you may run into drift issues between the two systems. So you'll probably want to rejam the principle Tentacle sync through-out the day just to ensure they are in sync. My hope is that RODE comes out with their own timecode boxes. I would snatch up a couple in a heart beat.
Hey hey Brendon! The magnets can be purchased on their own. They were a accessory introduced with the Wireless Pro II. You can find them here: geni.us/LyIFlD (affiliate link) Hope this helps!
It was just my big mouth. (well in side my big mouth) But I did get the top to be clipped where I couldn't use it. It was fuzzy. The tops of the peaks were flat and not fixable. @@TLDR_filmmaker
Just adding - since its left out of EVERY review - if you PAY $400 for this - you will wait until JANUARY 2024 to get it - since RODE only send thems to influencers FIRST then tell PAYING customers they are out of stock! If you cant ship - dont advertise!
I guess you missed the part in the video where I said I bought a second unit for myself after receiving and testing my sponsored unit. It did take a little over a week for it to come into BH for it to be shipped out. I can only imagine it may be harder now that more people are buying it. RODE already sent out the review units a long time ago. They're most likely done with all that by now. So its just keeping up with demands as they ship it to retailers world wide.
Great review, but it's better not to scream into mic to demonstrate change in conditions. Just say it. Very annoying to watch and get unexpected loud sound in RU-vid.
I hear ya Michael. Unfortunately if I don't do my scream tests when it comes to audio mic reviews it just wouldn't be a TLDR Filmmaker review. I did try to keep the volume level all similar in the edit so my screaming shouldn't be blowing out anyones ears when I suddenly try to clip out the system.
