I appreciate your engagement on this session, so many awesome comments shared…THANK YOU 🙏🏻🤟🏻 Back in 1998, I was commissioned to remix RODENT for Skinny Puppy’s Remix Dystemper. Nettwerk loaned me the original 2”- 24 track, and I booked a session at Mushroom Studios to make a ProTools copy. This newly ‘restored' mix is from that same copy. I (we) HAVE to acknowledge Rave’s production on this song, because it’s absolutely brilliant! We should all take a lesson, from the fact that he fit everything into 24 tracks 😳 The original sounds, vocals, guitars, etc. were really, really well produced, and recorded…it was an incredible learning experience restoring it 🙏🏻 A loving shout out to you Rave, for producing my favourite SP track EVER, and for taking me under your wing while doing so. I only realized years later, what a special privilege that was…to be trained by the BEST Industrial Music producer/engineer of our time…Dave ‘RAVE’ Ogilvie 🤟🏻❤❤ 💥Note for us geeks💥 When I was referencing my restored mix with Rave’s original, it didn’t take long to realize he must have used a REALLY COOL ‘old school’ trick when mixing…When working with an analog tape machine, mix engineers often switch on the varispeed control, and speed it up a few ‘cents’ for the mix. In most cases, it results in a tighter bottom end, without straying too far from standard pitch. My restored mix was a little ‘flat’, or slower than the original LP version, so I simply ’squeezed’ my final mix to match, using Avid’s time comp/expans Audiosuite plugin. Ended up sounding better 🤟🏻 Thanks for sitting in, I hope you enjoy this new ‘restored' mix of RODENT 2.0 🐀 ❤hiwatt
For real! I've been listening to Rabies for a couple of decades, and this new remaster is off the chain, Ken. I had no idea Rodent could sound better than the original. So many new details I can hear.❤❤❤ Thank you!!
The ENTIRE Rabies album needs an update, and release on VINYL and CD. Rabies has been treated terribly by the label and they must make amends! I'm glad to have the properly remastered CD, but we GOTTA have VINYL that isn't screwed up!
@@Cincinnatijames Indeed. As of now, it is the best and only way to listen to the album. I still find it mind boggling that the situation with Rabies has gone on this long.
too true. I have shied away from buying the 2018 version, or whenever. But I would rather have a remaster on par with this instead of a vg original copy...
This is such a killer update. Not too much, not too little, just a nice focus on many previously kinda obscured elements that really give the song a new life.
holy hell I hear things I've never heard in this mix and ive listened to this track since it came out. job well done!! and a special thanks to Dwanye too! omg does it get any better than this?!?!?!
Wow, thank you. Was in a dark place and this just took me back to 1989 when the world was not yet such a dismal place to the 11 year old me first popping this cassette into the deck. I don’t mean to get all emotional and wierd but you may have just brought back a touch of hope to someone who had all but abandoned it.
This song and album was my "gateway drug" to this great "rock 'n roll" band! Love EVERY song they have made before and since! Thanks for sharing. Sounds absolutely fucking amazing in my headphones....currently on repeat while I check my emails and local news, lol! Play it Loud! 🤟😃🤟
REmix the entire album like this. Release paid lossless first. Then release for streaming a month or two after. Fans will buy (me included), every bit counts these days. Kudos!
Absolutely one of my favorite SP tracks. That simple bass line is just killer when it pops in, then when the vocals come in it's just perfect. makes me so nostalgic like hearing it for the first time! :)
When I need to concentrate on studio work, I play this very very loud. It is a perfect remix. I would love to hear a remix of "I am War Again" by Damage Manual. Be still my black heart.
I heard things I didn't know that where there, but now I hear them loud and sparkling clear. What kind of magic did you use? It must have taken countless of hours to get this finished? Huge and humble respect! Simply can't wait till next month! But I understand that weekly broadcast takes a lot of discipline, a lot of time and a lot of energy. So far we all have gained so much from your channel and your knowledge and especially from the contagious enthusiasm. Ken, you literally have saved me from many desperate and dark Friday evenings just by always keeping up the positive spirit of your channel! But as we know, life shifts up and down... I hope everything is and will be all right!
My gawd, in good headphones this feels like I’m listening to this in widescreen 4K UHD with HDR after growing up listening to it on pan and scan VHS ;)
As much as I love this, my biggest takeaway was this MONTHS session instead of this week's. :-( I love this channel so ! much. Thank you Ken for giving us as much as you do, we're all very lucky.
Dave 'Rave' did a brilliant job with this track (huge fan of this album along with all the albums from Remission on btw), but this is amazing. The clarity and three dimensional quality exposes so much in the mix.
Ken… You’ve pulled the original spirit / fire / ghost of this manifestation clear through to our present times with the utmost purity. Words fail to convey what you’ve accomplished here and how much those of us who’ve been along for the ride appreciate it. Stay powerful 🙏
This is an incredible mix of this song. Wow! I need to go listen to this again, but with my good headphones. Thank you for making one of my favourite Puppy tracks sound even better!
I remember having to use Nettwerk's mail order service to get the remastered Rabies sent to my house in suburban Cleveland. The audio was a night-and-day difference compared to the Capitol version. Who must I slay to have an entire Rabies 2.0? Just point me in the direction and I will do so
Amazing mix. Would love it if you could somehow go back and “clean up” Last Rights. I think it is one of the most layered and dense pieces of music every written - still hearing new things decades later - but I know there must be so much more in there to be revealed with a new mix.
F'in brilliant! Damn. Cleaned up rather nicely there didn't ya? :) You got that ear (two of em! ;) ) my brother of sound. Hands of fire man. Truly art in beautiful chaotic form. Keep on killing em man. Love it!
Remixed/mastered with wonderful outboard gear! So much about this track is why I fell in love with Puppy. This so defines the style of Industrial that I love and miss.
Those vocals sound so much cleaner, less chaotic and abrasive sounding. You didn’t detract from the original song whatsoever but added a cleaner and refined aspect to it. The vocals are one of the core discernible differences compared to the original. Did you reduce the gain on the vocals?
A classic. Produced by Al Jourgensen if I'm not mistaken. A unique masterpiece with a sound authentic and entirely different from the rest of Puppy's catalogue.
Wow. I know this track since it was first released. Pre-ordered the import vinyl back in the days. What a great great mix you got there. I enjoyed to re-discover things. Sounds beatiful. Thank you. ❤️
Top notch, dude! It's amazing how modern tech can really bring everything to the front and still hear everything so clearly, even on 35 year old tracks. I don't think I've ever heard the bass synth so clearly. It's hard to have just one fav puppy tune, but this has always been among them. I bet Nivek had to take a lot of throat lozenges.
