Should have seen him in Vegas. Oh man. My sides would hurt. Then he'd get not so funny. Then he'd get funny again. It was great. I get no respect. Not even from my kids. Why the other day they put crazy glue in my preparation H.
He was awesome, his facial gestures we're perfect right at the moment of his punchlines, you never knew what was going to come out of his mouth but you always knew he would have you laughing your butt off
I have to get myself a red tie. So anytime I feel bad about myself. I can look down and smile and remember that the man in this video made me feel so good I would forget why I felt bad. Thanks Rodney, you were the best.
Lol. Yeah, I can't even imagine a current celebrity of Rodney's caliber saying 'No, not yet', about showing a clip from their current project. He was indeed, one of a kind. And, funny af!👍😅
Unbelievable. He had that audience in the palm of his hand. As I’ve said before, Rodney Dangerfield may have been the funniest man in history. Thank you and Rest In Peace, sir - YOU HAVE THE WORLD’S RESPECT FOR ETERNITY.
I can watch Rodney's routines over & over again & still laugh like I saw them for the 1st time. No one like him. Johnny Carson was the best straight man ever. R.I.P. Gentlemen
I loved him in the movies especially Caddyshack, but his best work was on stage. Where he came out with Johnny Carson and Dom DeLuise I just got finished watching it just a few minutes ago and I sat here at 7:30 in the morning cracking up. He was a incredible person
There's a video on RU-vid of Rodney Dangerfield on David Letterman's show but David Letterman kept interrupting the flow of jokes. Rodney D pauses before the punchline and Johnny Carson knows to keep quiet during that pause. David Letterman didn't know and tried to come in with his own wit - it's called 'treading on the jokes' and it ruins the surprise of a funny line. Johnny Carson seems to be doing nothing as an interviewer but in fact he is trusting the comic to fill the silence with something worth waiting for. That's a skill which many TV presenters are too anxious and too self-promoting to nurture.
And that ..was just one reason why Letterman didn't succeed Carson. Letterman hates being the passenger and needs some sense of control. The best thing any talk show host can do (as we see) is sit back and let the guest flow.
Yes , I think you nailed it. Lettermans' style worked with some , Norm McDonald for instance, but not Rodney so much. Of course Carson set the bar ....still does.
My girlfriend and I saw Rodney in Vegas in the late 70s and we never laughed so hard. Our stomachs literally hurt when we left. Best show ever. We miss you Rodney Dangerfield. There will never be another one like him.
I saw Rodney in the Chateau DeVille in Framingham MA in 1984. What a show. He was outstanding. If anybody in the audience tried to give him the business he crushed them. There must have been 600+ people in the audience and everybody was howling with laughter.
GOD broke the mold after making these 2 guys. There never has been or never will be another Rodney or Johnny. I really miss both of them. Thank You for all the laughs. The World REALLY needs your gift of laughter right now 🙏 Thank You to those that keep this channel and the legacy alive 👍
@@Merble not at all. If your a fan of Rodney you listen just because it's Rodney... I'm not a "Boomer" and I will listen to Rodney over ANY modern day comic any day of the week😎
Everyone needs to Laugh ,Red Skelton ,Robin Williams , and the imcorable Rodney ..Caddy Shack . He always made me LMAO , even when.I was down . Rodney , no matter how many times you were fortunate to see him , was always gifted to bring out a laugh when you needed it . Thanks for all the laughs . He probably is making the Lord chuckle ...
I saw a clip of Rodney on Letterman, and David acted like a jerk the whole time. Johnny was the best, really brought the best in Rodney. As if he had to. Great chemistry.
@Robert Patterson Truly. I hadn't seen it either and I've seen tons of Rodney on the Tonight Show. Love the "Now I have no dog!" and "I can handle my own..." jokes.
He was a one of a kind he delivered with no cuss words no politics...just about his wife ,kids and the dog...oh and his doctor....endless laughs..RIP RODNEY DANGERFIELD.
Zero? Did you ever watch The Tonight Show? The opening monologue often had references to the Prez and govt. It was life, most weren't too upset by it. Was a vent.
@@boostismagic I said "virtually" zero in the sense that while zingers at the President of the day were indeed common, it was NOTHING compared to the entire monologues of Colbert, Kimmel and Myers leveled at the President five nights a week for three years. Massive difference between a couple Carter or Reagan jokes and a fifteen minute hate-filled diatribe EVERY NIGHT for three years. And the biggest sin - not even funny.
@@news603redux back in the day, Johnny knocked every politician equally. The current crop of late night lightweights are dem party operatives and leftist shills.
@@news603redux Well neither is the half-wit buffoon that's running your country right now. Oh I know those jerks are obsessed with him but they've never had an orange orangutan right in front of them before who is truly the gift that keeps on giving...
When I was born I was so ugly after the doctor slapped me the nurses got a few in to. Doctor gave me to my mother she said ' you did everything you could' Doctor said yes but he lived anyway.
I was such an ugly baby - my parents didn't receive a birth certificate. Instead they got a bill for vandalism ! One day, in a sharp turn, I fell of my bike. I got arrested for throwing trash !
She went out and got a second opinion. LOL. Rodney Dangerfield was the king of comedy....... R.I.P MR DANGERFIELD R.I.P MR CARSON. TWO GREAT COMEDIANS..........
There is a DVD of some of his later TV work and he was swearing a lot in it. It just did not seem right at all. When he was swearing it was the most unfunny and uncomfortable thing I have seen.
3 Gentlemen the World could REALLY use right now. When they got together for some reason you knew everything was gonna be ok. Rodney, Johnny and Ed McMahon We Love and miss you.
The level of his writing isn’t talked about enough. Phenomenal writer, and I can’t see anyone else being able to deliver that material as Rodney did. OG
The greatest stand up comedian, ever. When his face and facial expressions alone sent you into hysterics, you know Rodney was beyond genius. Add his rapid fire jokes that built into a crescendo of unstoppable laughter and at times I could barely breathe, he was so funny. RIP, sir Rodney. No one comes close.
The irony is that he was one of the most respected comedians, not only by the audiences, but also by his peers. The greatest one liner comedian of all time.
As a child of the 60's and 70's Johnny was a huge part of my (and our) entertainment. There will never be another show like it. Guests like Rodney made it even better. RIP Johnny, Ed, and Rodney.
@@cliffordscharff8536 Oh by the way Clifford "Cliff", when I saw your name I just had to put my two cents in. Talking to someone that has the same name as myself is kinda weird, but not as weird as talking to myself! LOL! 😆 Just so you know I never answer back. 🧓
Rodney’s pretend crying just killed me, especially when he pointed at Ed McMahon. “You know what they say Johnny, it’s lonely at the top....when there’s no one at the bottom!” What a funny man. Miss you Rodney. PS he always joked that he never had luck with women. In real life, he had a beautiful wife named Joan.
For about 10 seconds he had me going with that crying. I think it's a thing that great comics or comedic actors can do by making you cry and laugh at the same time.
I was walking down the beach, when I suddenly realized I was coming up behind this voluptuous blond woman, wearing an incredible bikini that she filled out perfectly. She had all the curves and the sexy sway in her walk.... I thot she was out walking with her dad... But as I passed them and make the testosterone mandated look over the shoulder, I glanced real quick at the man, and it was Rodney Dangerfield.... Suddenly I was more star struck with Rodney than the blond.... That's how great he was.... He just nodded and said, "How ya doing?" He knew, that I knew, that he knew that I had sped up to catch them walking for a specific purpose... and he was ok with that... What a man! Damn was she gorgeous!!!!
Small clarification: he said “…when there’s no one ON the bottom.” That was the joke. It was a euphemism for sex. ;) Or at least that’s how I interpreted it.
It was always a special night when you tuned into Carson at 11:30 and found out Rodney was a guest that night. Wife and I been married 26 years. Sept. 3 1992 was our first date. We saw Rodney with Robbin Williams, Jim Carrey, Bernie Mac and Pauli Shore in Anaheim for the Tribute to Sam Kinison. It was being shot for HBO. Not a bad first date. We sat on the isle that Rodney came down and he put his arm around my wife before he got to the stage. She was so happy. I haven’t been able to top that one. You can watch it on RU-vid Sam Kinison tribute for HBO. I watched it 25 yrs. later. We were in the fourth row. Couldn’t see us. Too bad. My Girls would have liked that..
Rodney had not been on Johnny's show for quite some time, And so he came up with a bunch of new material out of respect, and I have always been grateful for his love of comedy, and his friend
OMG I remember laying on my grandparents living room floor the night this episode was played oh, I remember laughing so hard and my grandmother who was sitting on the couch and my sister with her she said later that she didn't expect me to just crack up the way I did. He was awesome, to me one of the funniest comedians of his time. Thank you RU-vid forgiving someone like me and many others the ability to watch someone who we grew up with who has so many incredible memories
Omg you hit the nail on the head Raul! Can’t even stand Saturday night live anymore too much politics😩 it’s a shame tv networks dropping the ball on what used to be classic comedy!
Yeah I stopped watching any of them I shut my cable off four and a half years ago and I don't miss it! RU-vid Vimeo and several others got the good stuff
What was it he said before going into hospital when asked how long he'd be in there. "If all goes well, about a week. If not, about an hour and a half... Classic.
Rodney came up with new material for this show. He hadn't guested on The Tonight Show in quite a while and with the new zingers Rodney was showing great respect for Johnny. With his new movie to plug Rodney could easily have showed up and re-used stuff. Great respect taking time to come up with these new ones!
Not many. And it was that JC KNEW it didn’t matter where they were, standing or sitting, EVERYONE was in for a good time. And Johnny, was just as anxious as the audience.
Tell ya I'm having a rough day. Button fell off my shirt this morning. Picked up my briefcase the handle fell off..I tell ya I'm afraid to go to the bathroom..
you know you're old when the kids and grandkids are watching The Shining, and the guy leans out the door and says "Heeeeere's JOHNNY!!" and you're the only one laughing.
His crying at 7:50 thru 8:10 really made me cry myself. 😢 ❤ Deep down he did not wanted the show to end. Rest in peace Rodney, your legacy will absolutely never be in vain. Mad respect for you 👏
"I can't get no respect." One of the greatest lines in stand-up comedy. It's right up there with Henny Youngman's line, "Take my wife... please." Rodey's brand of self-deprecating humor endeared him to everyone. When he appeared anywhere, you knew you would laugh.
I have to agree. Henny Youngman and Rodney Dangerfield, two of the best live shows you could possibly see. They new how to take command of an audience and work them into complete hysterics. The warm up comedians never stood a chance when one of these two were headlining.
@@motogp001 Speaking of warm-ups... I never knew that programs like Carson's Tonight Show would have comedians come out before the shows started taping and "warm up" the audience for Carson. Carson mentioned it once when Buddy Hackett had been out and the program started with the audience in hysterics. Apparently Buddy been treating them to portions of his Vegas act which was not for prime time.
Saw his act in Albany Ny 37 yrs ago. He had to stop telling joke for a while...to give people time to recover.....your stomach hurt so bad, you could not laugh.
MY WIFE & i WENT TO SEE RODNEY @ 'DANGERFIELDS' NUMEROUS Times; He had other Comedians of Varied Skills & Musicians AS WELL; THEN 'RODNEY' came on his reaction to several Audience members STARTED LAUGHTER ROLLING. He would ask them Questions and see he Liked Connecticut when some one stated They where from CT: He would always state; "AHA A BUNCH OF SWELLS." THEN HE WENT INTO HIS ACT; I am telling you MY JAW HURT FROM LAUGHIN; Especially if we Knew the PUNCHLINE !!
Carson: Do you want to talk about your movie? Rodney: No....not yet. Today’s talk shows are the opposite where the guest doesn’t have anything funny to say and they are there just to promote their movie.
" Doctors say don't smoke, don't drink and eat certain foods." At my age, what do I have to look forward to? If I take excellent care of my health, I'll get very sick and die! Suddenly I'm depressed.
At his age, he could still make the audience roar with laughter. It's very tough to do but Rodney was a huge talent for many years. I guess you all know that well. I miss Rodney and love to watch the old clips, reminds me of the good old days watching Carson as a teenager with my parents (when I was lucky enough to stay up a little later). Nowadays there isn't a show made that parents and kids watch together - they will never have the chance to reminisce like I do with old tv shows, they spend so little time together compared to the generations before.
Johnny Carson was on cruise control when a Rodney Dangerfield was his guest. Rodney would take over and dominate Carson, his guests, the audience and anyone within earshot. His mannerism as a nervous fellow created a relatable persona, and all this before he hit you with his one liners. I still love hearing him over and over even when I’ve heard the punch line before.
Back in the Days we had Clean Humor that made everyone laugh. We had Johnny Carson, Jay Lenno Today we have Jokes that arent funny, yet alot of Cursing and Swearing. And we have the Graham Nortonshow.... Suddenly im Depressed
@@NoOne-kr4jc - Nixon? How about rabid liberals who hate everyone and everything and can't stop destroying America? We're prisoners in our homes now because of democrats and you're blaming Nixon?
I remember when Johnny was getting close to retirement and so many celebrities were teary-eyed during their last visit. Johnny had done so much for so many careers. Rodney caught me off guard for a moment when he changed gears and talked about May 22nd (Johnny’s last day). He really sold it and even the audience got quiet - until he lowered the boom. Great last appearance for Rodney, and I know Johnny and the audience loved it.
