I mean this guy is legendary and all, but Bernie Mac does his exact technique sometimes and is just as good. He’s the king for a reason. This guy is just really good at working a crowd with a joke every 2 seconds.(I know the video is edited but he pretty much is just as fast) But in the end that’s all he does. I didn’t even know people liked him like that. But after reading these comments I guess people like him. But it gets boring after 10min
I saw him live once, I'm sure we all heard the same jokes before, but people were rolling in the aisles anyway. It was his delivery. Once he got the crowd laughing they couldn't stop.
@@jesuguru2394: I was waiting for this joke in the video compilation. When it didn't appear, I looked for it in the comments. At least you got the joke.
That on really caught me off guard., I had a mouth full of coffee that went everywhere, but down my throat. What a mess. Thank you Rodney. It was definitely worth it. 😎
Rodney said he suffered from depression most of his life. He certainly knew how to make us forget our own sorrows. I hope he knew how much he delighted his audience, & how much we appreciated & valued the gift of laughter he gave us! RIP, Rodney.
I saw a documentary about him. Wow, he had a rough childhood. He turned his sadness into laughs, but sometimes I hear a few of his jokes, I just feel sorry for him.
@@darrensiegel6651 that's true about him and other great comedians and what about the local people we know. Those around us who always make Wise cracks always like to joke around lifing other people's spirits up? Could that be a sign of hiding or coping with their own sadness and depression? I can see that in myself too always trying to make other people crack up when you notice that they're sad and they could use a little pick me up. Give us a sense of worth and enjoyment when you see other people laugh. And you see so many people have their own different ways of laughing. I always like enjoy watching them with the different ways they crack up when I make them laugh
Perfection every single time. The delivery, the timing, the body language, everything. He was a natural and I don't think we'll ever get someone like him again.
there are some great one-liner comedians, but they simply haven't got the delivery that Rodney had. The straightening of the tie was always so funny! The mentioning of his doctor, Dr. Vinny Boombats, was great! What a quack HE was! hahaha!
This is true...y mother never breastfeed me she said she just wanted to be friends..omg..I fell out of my chair...he was the greatest..rapid fire delivery may he rest in peace Rodney 🙏.
Met Rodney in1984or 1985 while I was Director of Operations at the Omni Berkshire hotel in NYC. He would come down in his bathrobe and hang out with the concierges and make them laugh quite a bit. Every joke or story was different, as though he was making them up at the spur of the moment - - comic genius AND a really nice guy. He is truly missed.
My wife and I saw him a year or so before he passed when we were in Vegas. It was no stop laughter, one joke after the next. The place was packed and everyone was laughing their asses off. Glad I got to see him. Rodney was the best.
Rodney was like a steam roller, once he got rolling there was no stopping him, & he was always on a roll. Saw him live in Vegas in the seventies, my sides ached for two days. One of a very special breed of comics.
I never saw Rodney live, and I regret it so much. Saw Kinnison twice in Rochester NY….extraordinary. I go to see Gilbert any time he is near where I am. Saw him at Carolines in the big city……just incredible.
Yup, he was one of a kind, life was just brutal to him but he just kept on plugging away; man that's inspirational! Did see him live in 89 and he was unstoppable, not only worked with the crowd but he was just brutal to the hecklers....it was great. If you're going to heckle a comedian Rodney should be your last choice.
@@robertschiffler555 , I would be the kind of person that would roast everyone, left, right, middle, AND fringe alike, you know, if I had a sense of humor and if comedy clubs were not so uptight.
When people kick around who's the greatest comedian all time The Usual Suspects are always mentioned Pryor, Carlin Now Dave Chappelle's name is in the mix. But as far as who made me laugh the most hands down it was Rodney.
They'll never be anyone better than Rodney Dangerfield when it comes to comedic timing!! If you don't stop laughing soon enough, he'll be two jokes ahead of you!! RESPECT and RIP Rodney!!
At the lowest points of my life Rodney had me hysterically laughing, to this day when I'm down 5 minutes is all it takes for Rodney to make me feel better. RIP Rodney, and thank you for the laughs.
What makes Rodney unique is what I call his "rapid fire" delivery. Most comedians tell and joke and get a laugh, then tell another joke, and so on. Rodney's jokes are like a machine gun. they're rapid and nonstop. He was truly one of kind.
Ohhh ... Hell Yeah, we had it good! ... even when I talk to my grandkids, they are shocked about how fun it was, and especially how we got more bang for our buck, and much else. Love this guy, Rodney!
He would be 100 tomorrow (22/11/1921) One of the greatest comedians to ever walk the earth. Helped make the careers of so many upcoming comics a reality. I hope he gets the bronze statue in his hometown.
It's interesting watching him progress through the various eras and stages of his career all in one video. You can literally see how he perfected his craft over the years. His delivery, timing, all of it, got hammered into its absolute best possible form. No fat, no filler, just pure funny. It's nowhere NEAR as easy as he made it look. That's the mark of a true master: Making the difficult appear effortless.
Everyone knew " No Respect " Dr Vinny Boombatz , How Ugly ? How Fat ? Those characteristic eyes !! I'd would laugh when you knew HE was holding back a laugh . Rodney , I am certain you are still at it .Thank You and RIP .
I agree, he wasn't that funny when he started out, and just got better and better. Louis CK is the same, he was a comedian for years and was pretty ordinary, then he hit his stride and really took off.
I laughed throughout this entire video. My dad laughed so hard at him once , he had to go outside to catch his breath. I have great memories of watching him on Johnny with my dad. RIP Rodney, we sure do miss the laughter 💖
Rodney is a true comedy legend. Literally everything he’s said is always a joke and rapid fire. The man was way before his time and will always be remembered as one of the greatest.🙏
Rodney was a fine-tuned joke machine...everything from his looks, his movements, his jacket and tie, his expressions, his open eyes, his sweat and handkerchief...all perfected over the years.
My absolute favorite Rodney Dangerfield joke I can't find anywhere on RU-vid. I heard it only once, on a TV special when I was a teenager and I've never forgotten it. I laughed so hard I missed the rest of his set. That was the power of his genius. The joke is: "I get no respect, you know what I mean? Last week I bought a used car. Found my wife's sweater in the back seat!"
One of a kind. There'll never be another one like him. When I saw him in concert it was so hard to keep up with his rapid fire on liners. I hardly got started laughing at the 1st joke when I'm laughing at the next one and the next one until I laughed non stop the whole show. It took me a couple of days to recuperate from my side and voice being so sore. We sure need him now.
I was 7 the first time Dad let me stay up and Rodney on Carson..if he was on I was up til Rodney did his set and the couch. I didn't get most of the jokes but it was seeing my Dad laugh... happy Birthday Rodney, thank you Dad
There'll never be another laugh-master like Rodney Dangerfield. RIP, Rodney, and much respect. Thanks a million for all the side-busting laughs... There goes the neighborhood!
After the joke about the flies pitching in to fix the screen door he had a follow up joke...."My wife's a horrible cook. Last week, the garbage disposal threw up." The Greatest.
I'm so glad I grew up listening to this man. They just don't make them like that anymore that's for sure😟 Rest in Peace Rodney...you were truly one of a kind♥️
Man, Dangerfield was one of the best.. no question about it. His one liners were absolutely brilliant and hilarious. There’ll never be another as good as him. No way 😂😅
No one, before or since, has even come close to this legends incredible sense of humor!! The ability to use simple and short bits of self depreciation in such an artful manner is still unprecedented!!! Myself and many others enjoyed the countless hours of joy and laughter you provided, and though film and social media, still provide for us!!!!
The best 14 minutes and 47 seconds therapy I've ever had!!! Non-stop laughter🤣Really miss you Rodney. Thank God we have all this videos and your records.
Try seeing him in the lobby of a UES skyscriper in his robe either walking to the NYHRC across the street, Catch A Rising Star (where Chris Rock even mentioned it), and with his tour bus.
Rodney was a treasure. A real comedian, he didn't have to dazzle you with clever wordplay or stories, it was all the timing and delivery. He primes you to laugh and then delivers it. Brilliant stuff. And don't ever forget, he could sweat with the best of them. You can't teach sweat.
To your second sentence, I'd bet you get more laughter per minute from Rodney than anyone else. Simply because like you said, less story telling, word play, more punch lines. You have to pay good attention because he's so fast with his humor. Love 'em!
I only wish I could have met him & told him he made me laugh from the first time I ever heard him speak, and I'm still laughing at every joke. His delivery was perfect!!!
Rodney was one of the very greatest! Listening to this video, though, I think there's something missing. The ACT! There's something special to be had in the flow of his routine, that doesn't come through in these disconnected jokes.
I HEARD SOMEONE MENTION HE SAW RODNEY LIVE. PEOPLE WERE THROWING JOINTS ON STAGE. RODNEY PICKED UP THE BIGGEST JOINT AND SMOKED IT FOR THE REMAINING 45 MINUTES!!
Rodney tried comedy when he was young...He quit performing for many years, but he kept writing jokes. He collected them and when he decided to get Back into show business ,years later,he had a foundation of material to build his Act on...He was the GREATEST!🙏❤👍
The last joke is the killer. It really is perfect. "I got the same pack since 1975" murders, and then he follows it up with the real punchline "she's up to 3 packs a day." God I love Rodney
I recently watched a show about Eddie Murphy and he told of the first time he met Rodney, that he said that he should not use profanity, they ran into each other years later and Rodney said" who knew " about his rise to stardom.Eddie said he was almost crying with laughter after his observation of his career so far and Rodney just kept firing away, one after the other, until Eddie said stop, I can't keep up and I am sore from laughing. Genius doesn't die, it just grows old disgracefully.
When I heard that He passed away; I got all choked up! He moved next door to me!! He was truly an orginal, and a Class Act! No one could make me laugh, like He could!!
I grew up in Australia watching and loving the humor of Red Skelton, Bob Hope, and Carol Burnett, but never heard of Rodney until I was in my 30s. Boy, am I glad I found him. Just brilliant!!! Thanks for this compilation and I’m still wiping away the tears of joy.
"The flies all pitched in to get the hole in the screen door fixed", only Rodney could come up with something like that, RIP RD, you were one of the best to ever do it.
Even today, after all these years, I still can't help but laugh. You just can't hold it back? Robin Williams was another one who was like a wound up coil. Once he was released, he'd just be non-stop! Loved them both...true entertainers.
There's no build up. The punch line comes within 5 seconds and there's no time to stop laughing. My Man and The Man of comedy. He nailed it!! We could really use you now!!!!!
one of my favorites: " When I was a kid I said to my father "Hey Pop, I'm going to the pond to ice skate". He said "Why don't you wait till it gets a little warmer"
“I told my wife I was in the mood for sex, so she left the room to give me privacy.” Rodney was so funny. He could pack so much humor into one sentence.
My favorite Rodney joke which I taped off the radio around 1980: "I've always had bad luck with cars....always taking it to a mechanic. And at the shop, I always know where to find it...it's up on a lift. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it going up and down...up and down. I've got the only car in the world that has more miles on it vertically than horizontally".
The greatest thing about Rodney, is he was all comedy genius and didn’t depend on profanity shock factor; he knew the difference. He was the guy at the local bar in NY. Truly one of the greatest of all time.
Rodney was one of the all time greats and despite his bits about no respect he really had plenty of respect especially from those young comics whom he helped in getting started. He was also one of those who could think on their feet you just couldn't throw him off on stage he was quick with the comeback. One Rodney classic here "My old man he told me to you gotta start at the bottom. He was teaching me how to swim"
