He should never have done Sern's show. Stern is a 'muck- raker' and Dangerfield was in no physical condition to this interview....4 months before his death! I would rather remember Rodney as he was in the movie "Caddyshack" or on the Tonight Show with Carson.
@@UberLummoxI doubt you know Howard as a person but all of his weird questions are homosexual because that’s who Howard is. Had his boyfriend Ralph for all those years and now married a beard to keep her quiet.
Rodney died 4 months after this interview. He had brain surgery about a year before this interview on 04-08-2003 to improve blood flow for an upcoming heart valve replacement. The heart valve replacement occurred on 08-24-2004. Rodney died a few weeks later on 10-05-2004. His headstone epitaph reads, "There goes the neighborhood".
Damn, he died on my 20th birthday... i don't know what relevancy that has, (probly none at all) as it's just another 1 of life's weird, seemingly random instances of happenstance that I'm not going to apply some unjustified meaning to, just a curious observation on my part.
He said atleast he won’t know he’s dead but on Wikipedia it says in was in hospital for 6 weeks until he died so what does that mean? He was in a Coma or what?
The poor man had a few months to live & went on this show. Still, thankful for the interview to hear him and thankful for all Rodney gave to us. Rest In Peace Legend ❤️🤗
Was super depressing to hear how much his family and wife disliked him. They are true gold diggers, as he said you roll the dice with kids, and marriage can sure be the same once wealth is involved.
True Legend of his own right..his hard life gave him the strength to make others smile even though..he felt so 😢 empty..but definitely loved ..by everyone who watched him on the silver screen RIP Rodney ❤❤
Rodney died 19 weeks after this. He was in more or less a coma for the last six weeks of his life. His final words were funny, as always. (Look them up.) Sad to see him weakened here, but he gave his all even though he was feeling awful. Thank you, Rodney, for everything.
Damn, this is the saddest interview of Rodney Dangerfield I ever saw. I’m getting teary eyed. He had the worst parents. That, and he doesn’t have the energy like we always see him with. You could tell, he’s in his dying days.
And Howard had to bring it up and not get off the topic. He's kind of a dick for doing that. He did something similar with Frank Zappa in his dying days. No wonder he goes to a shrink five days a week.
Howard kept drilling the sadder elements of his life the entire interview. Gotta say, this isn’t what I expected in a Stern/Dangerfield interview. Kinda lame.
I have watched Rodney Dangerfield a hundred times on RU-vid.....I knew every punchline and I still laughed at every one. He was the funniest guy on the planet.
I was looking for the actual date of this interview. It had to be near the end. I love watching Rodney in old clips with Carson and others. A very real part of my formative years as a teenager. He taught me that self-deprecating humor was always the best humor! Thanks Rodney Dangerfield for a lifetime of laughs and not taking ourselves too seriously! RIP
I've never seen Howard stumble and get nervous like this before. At the start you could tell he realised Rodney was almost gone and not what he used to be.
I certainly miss Rodney. He was always a favorite of mine growing up. So talented and was a gift to this world. Rodney, I can say you always had my respect. Love and miss you always...
Rodney Dangerfield was always one of my very favourite comedians/comedic actors. What a true legend to be a celebrity working against all odds he had against him. I heard that his final words were even a funny joke before he passed away. Sad that a couple of the callers had to be creepy & disrespectful to such a legend. I’m totally gonna have to read his book. RIP Rodney, you’re the best!
I've watched a lot of Howard's interviews and this is one of the few ones when you can actually tell Howard's admiration and respect towards his guest. Rest in paradise, Rodney!
In around 1987, I was lucky enough to meet rodney with his 20something gal walking the strand in venice ca. They sat down at the bend just before the shops, I was roller blading and rodney made the comment, "what the fuck is this guy skating on?". I stopped and let him know they are blades not skates and we chatted for a few minutes. Super nice guy, RIP.
This is such a sad interview. It breaks my heart that Rodney struggled so much to find joy in his life. Besides creating funny material, he was more or less miserable. That's just awful. I will take this as a life lesson to do more things that make me happy
It's a common thing, to find that a comedian, is just a miserable soul. Very unhappy with their lives. Idunno why, when they touch so many lives with happiness, that they'd remain miserable still....
Must say, I only listened to Rodney do stand up for the first time months ago. He quickly became my favorite comedian. No one before or since drops one liners like he did. Wish I had heard him when I was a bit younger
Look at the golddigger walking behind him..thats ok..whatever made hi. Happy..he had good taste in woman I can see.lol. she was rocking Rodney's world..
I kind of agree with the caller. This was so sad. He's absolutely miserable and spends his life making others happy. So incredible. RIP Rodney. Greatest of all time 🙏
This is one of the saddest interviews ever and to think Rodney died 4 months later can’t believe he’ll be gone 20 years this October that’s insane he is so missed he was incredible one of the greatest and funniest comedians of all time May he RIP 🪦
Sad thing is he died only 4 months after this interview. He knew he was in his last lap and his mood/ personality today shows they. He wasn’t anywhere near the danger field we all grew to cherish. RIP legend
I love this interview my mum was very similar to he's people just don't quite understand the hurt & pain you go though with a unsupportive mother. 💔 One day you realised you cannot win the affection or love they don't want to give you you. Once your over that well can never possibly be totally over it 👍
One of the defining characteristics of ALL the great comics was this intrinsic SADNESS. Rodney had that in spades, plus I think his health was in decline at this point and he knew he did not have much time left. RIP Rodney, you were one of the greats who brought laughter and happiness to Millions. I cannot think of a greater legacy than that. ❤😂👍
Rodney Dangerfield was a great Comedian and Actor. He started later in life to create "I get no Respect". RIP 🌹 Mr. Dangerfield your now making everyone laugh in Heaven. Don Rickles was a favorite Comedian of mine too RIP.
This was the interview that turned me off to Howard after being a fan for soooo long. So disrespectful to a legend. Howard will never have Rodney’s legacy.
I can still hear Johnny Carson laughing when Rodney was on his show there will never be another Rodney he was in a class by himself I'm still laughing !!
While visiting Las Vegas in 1999 my friend was thinking of treating us to see Rodney live in a stand up performance. We unfortunately never got around to going since we had a lot of other things to do while there. One of my biggest regrets!
maybe my fav comedian all time ...he brought so much joy to so many ,and to see so much unhappiest ...what a shame ..howard don't be like Rodney , know and appreciate your greatness . tip for being happy learn mindfulness , be thankful and grateful for everything ,even small things like a meal ,or transportation ..AND BE AS POSITIVE AS POSABLE , forgive those who have wronged you, not for them, but your own peace of mind..no need in even telling them. worked for me
Howard stop bro!! If he's ok with it you should be too!!! The man, God rest his soul and took it for what it was. Howard sounds like he wanted to be the kid on dudes lap.#Legend #Norespect
23:16 so sad when he says he was never joyful. All that success & he just couldn't enjoy it. RIP Rodney His wife gave me Beth vibes hanging around w an old geezer just for the money 💵💰
I can't tell if you're jealous of Rodney and Howard...or Beth and Rodney's wife... But what I know for sure is your observation is self-revelatory. If we strip people down to our primitive state, women have always been attracted to the strong because of the security they provide...well in modern times, wealth is power. Clearly you're unsuccessful and therefore angry and jealous of the strong...
I think it’s clear Beth is just after Howard’s money. I mean, that might have been part of the initial attraction, his success, but she and Howard seem to be kindred spirits.
Vanity vanity all is vanity . It’s all in the Bible . You can not fill a void that is meant to be filled with Jesus Christ. All the riches of the world will not fill it and the idiot Stern can’t figure that out either. I was sad to see Rodney a non believer. His soul may never rest if he went out with that belief. Mock me all you want but at the end of the day the mockers will be separated from the believers , Bible says the goats will be separated from the sheep that know their Shepard’s voice.
Howard Stern is the best radio host in the history of radio and the best interviewer there ever was! And Rodney is the GOD of standup comedy. It doesn't get much better.
