Rodney Lewis Smith (December 24, 1947 - December 5, 2016) was a New York-based fashion and portrait photographer.
Smith primarily photographed with a 35mm Leica M4 before he transitioned to a 120/6x6 (medium format) Hasselblad with an 80mm lens. He preferred natural light to illuminate his subjects, but occasionally used continuous lighting. Smith shot predominantly in black and white, until 2002, when he first began to experiment with color film. His work is commonly referred to as classic, minimalistic, and whimsical.

No constant chatter, no camera gear reviews, nothing to distract the viewer from enjoying the works of the featured photographer. The music complements the photos-this is the best photography channel on RU-vid keep up the good work!

Totally the best Photography channel on RU-vid! One of the most wonderful photographers, ever! He made photos, but was full of serendipity, to see images that stirred the soul, the heart, the mind.The photographs Rodney delivered to clients were a product of great value! Not a cheesy SD card or some plug in to see! A box with 16x20" prints, mounted,, divided by tissue paper. Gear! All of us with warehouses of gear, a Leica-M, usually the 50mm. Hasselblad with 80mm Planar and occasionally a 50mm! Film Tri-X maybe later T-Max. In his bag, Creativity, Thought and a reverence for life. I miss his column and the man! Bravo.

Perrrrrrrrfect. I love the square format. The humour in his work is outstanding. Even the empty still life and landscapes make you smile. Images which are full of fun and daring and beautiful to look at. This is by far one of the best channels here on RU-vid. Keep them coming.

This is what sets great photographers apart from instagram photographers. The composition is masterful; the tones and contrast, flawless. The depth and emotion and character so visceral and real. Then, it’s just unique and hard to imitate. This is what photography should be aiming in 2024. This is how artists combat AI 🔥👏

I wish I could set up my scenes like this. Get people to pose in such odd creative ways. Getting them to cooperate would of course be essential. More than likely beyond the means of your average instagram or amateur photographer. Also I disagree with you regarding AI. It's because of this that artists have been using AI. To make up for the fact that they don't have the people or the props to make such photos like this. Also artists like myself do use AI to create pictures that can't be made using a camera. Such as sci fi or fantasy themes that can't be made using any camera.

It was at this moment that I realised I'd wasted my entire fking life with a camera. Why didn't I know about Rodney Smith when I was 16 ???? It would have changed the course of my life. I don't know how it's possible to take this many exquisite images in just one life. I'd be happy with just one of his highly stylised images.

Superb videos of photographers I’ve never heard of. Only one complaint, your videos are damaging my wallet, because I can’t help but searching out and buying as many of their books as my wallet can take. Keep up the good work.

It is great art but the photos that impress me most are non-contrived or naturally made ones in natural settings. Where no one is posing for the picture.
