I agree that Rodriques should get better recognition, not only in the US but worlwide. He, like Leonard Cohen, is an urban poet whose music has influenced our lives so much. Voices of compassion, truth and humanity. Maybe Pressident Trump can help this "Son of Detroit" to be recognised for his contribution to music and the positive influence he had on so many lives.

I saw a poster advertising Rodriguez in my small home town, called The Strand. I knew Rodriguez was dead, so I thought I was buying tickets for a tribute show. Imagine my surprise when my icon walked on stage. Imagine when he said, "Thank you South Africa for bringing me back to life." Imagine HIS surprise when he walked out in Bellville on his first concert and saw a packed Velodrome. That was properly more people there than all his bars and concerts thrown together. And then he summoned the courage to give stunning show to a massive audience.

Fabulous Rodriguez... South Africans absolutely loved his album during the 80's. Bought the album. Covered some of his amazing songs at my gigs. What a brilliant artist. I can barely listen to the ra ra music that is out in the market these days. So many superb musical artists of great integrity like him never make it into the public arena. What a great loss. So happy 2 South African producers seized Rodrigues from total obscurity and produced a film about him. He is truely amazing. Authentic.

his music brings the spirit of late 60's and early 70's, he was frozen in time and now he revives without contaminating his music with the wear and tear of years ... it is simply incredible to listen to this man .

For someone who made such great music, he’s super humble. And he really spent most of his life working, so he knows what it’s like to be a regular person and he really prefers that.

Rodriguez is brilliant... always was. I used to listen to his two albums 'Cold Fact' and 'Coming from Reality' incessantly back in the mid 70's, shortly after he recorded them and always wondered "What happened to that guy?... How did someone that brilliant not kick on?... Where did he go?... Maybe he's dead? What a story his life has been! After all he's been through... and the incredibly long time he was away from the music biz, working as a demolition guy and what not, just struggling to get by... To the world today, Rodriguez, as a live performer, along with his music... is cooler, and more relevant than Bob Dylan. It quite saddens me, that the music powers that were in his orbit at the time, failed to see just how important an artist this man was rightfully destined to be. And I feel, by their dropping him so quickly and coldly from their label, it completely crushed, what must have been at the time, a quite delicate and teetering artistic spirit... and sadly... as a result... denied the music listening world what... would, and should have been... a whole catalog of great music from an artist who had a rightful place at the very toppermost of the music pile.

i totally agree...i thought i was up on music as a kid but this guy passed my by and i am sad about that as i am in awe and love what he does think as you say he's well cool a real genuine artist and a very modest sweet person, no bad feelings expressed at what was outrageous swindling by that dude from AM Sussex..

I don't even understand what people ever saw in Bob Dylan. His lyrics sound boring because of his annoying voice which makes his writing sound mediocre even compared to the music I grew up with. The first time someone told me Hendrix' All Over The Watchtower is actually a Dylan cover I was amazed, looked up the original and it was.. I dunno man, I can relate with the culture of the sixties and that's probably why he was such a big figure back in the day but take all that away and he's just another guy in the line. Rodriguez is genuine, sings about his own struggles with a heart and he feels comfortable the way he brings these stories. Dylan always kinda sounded like a rip-off to me, dunno why but he does.

***** Don't be too hard on Dylan. Before you give up on him altogether... have a good listen to his album 'The Times They Are a Changin''. You've got to respect the guy, if not just for those first coulpa albums he did... they were quite brilliant. In my opinion anyway.

Dylan Times they are...but Rodriguez has something else..what a spirit, his bouncebackability, after all that he holds no hatred or regret, I find this so so amazing and i respect him all the more..how many could have borne that with such poise and grace!

After watching Searching For Sugarman, which absolutely amazed as a story. It was so awesome that it gave him the recognition he deserved and he had another shot at the career of following his music all the way to doing festivals such as Glastonbury. But was saddened to hear recent he'd passed away. Bless you Sixto and your lovely daughters who had a big part of your come back story. There was something said in the documentary that I'll always remember what one of them said of him about if he was rich, and I'll paraphrase. "Not in money, he was rich in other things!" I loved that, and they definitely loved their dad. Rest in peace sir xxx

@dr.weaklicksofcrashedcurse4535
One is left wondering why this guy is not as famous as Bob Dylan.
@dr.weaklicksofcrashedcurse4535
***** Maybe, Graham, but I would rather believe that there are basically two kinds of musicians: 1) those who play music as a hobby, with limited input and limited output (such as I do) and 2) those who have a full load of emotions and stories to tell and who put all of their soul into well played music as to communicate something. I think Rodriguez belongs to type 2, and as such, by default, he needs to become famous as to ensure that his output touches as many people as possible.
@dr.weaklicksofcrashedcurse4535
***** I am no real musician, I play for fun, but I can understand how a real musician must feel about this.

He's half-blind, tired and old. The 'music industry' has only just recognised him. Imagine Jagger suddenly coming to light after the 60's from a life of hardship and despair... Perspective is a great tool, use it.
