"Searching For Sugar Man" (soundtrack) 2012. Original track comes from the single "I'll Slip Away / You'd Like To Admit It" (Impact 1031), August 1967, released as Rod Riguez.
Lyrics in description below.
And I'll forget about the girl that said no
Then I'll tell who I want where to go
And I'll forget about your lies and deceit
And your attempts to be so discreet
Maybe today, yeah
I'll slip away
And you can keep your symbols of success
Then I'll pursue my own happiness
And you can keep your clocks and routines
Then I'll go mend all my shattered dreams
Maybe today, yeah
I'll slip away
Cause you've been down on me for too long
And for too long I just put you on
Now I'm tired of lying and I'm sick of trying
Cause I'm losing who I really am
And I'm not choosing to be like them
And if you get bored and you got loneliness
Or it's dislike for me you express
I won't care if you're right or you're wrong
I won't care cause you see I'll be gone
Maybe today, yeah
I'll slip away
Maybe today, yeah
Maybe today, yeah
Maybe today, yeah girl
I'll slip away

I love how "I'll Slip Away" and "Can't Get Away" are two totally different songs about the same thing - escaping from society. In this song the singer is optimistic about getting away from wherever he is, but in "Can't get away" the singer believes there is no way out of his current situation. There is so much more to say but that would take an essay's length. Rodriguez is a genius.

Obra maestra, es de admirar la sencillez de este artista, es un ejemplo de superación y su sencillez no tiene límite. Deberían tomar nota otros muchos cantantes, que no se conformen con el dinero y la fama, lo importante es dejar algo para el mundo. Grande Rodriguez...

My favourite Rodriguez song. Not included the original first two albums. Appeared on a "greatest hits" collection, along with Can't Get Away and Street Boy. A song of journeying, shaking the dust off your shoes and moving on. "(And perhaps this was not just a statue of himself but of others also, not gods, but those who journey unceasingly, without stopping, without reaching the end.)"

Rodriguez recorded this song as a single in 1967, but didn't record anything more for three years, until his first album 'Cold Fact' in 1970. In 1971, he recorded 'Coming From Reality', his second album which included 'I'll Slip Away' as the final track. Also on this album, great songs such as I Think of you, Sandrevan Lullaby - Lifestyles, To Whom It May Concern, It Started Out So Nice, Halfway Up The Stairs, Cause, Can't Get Away, Street Boy ... heck all of them.

And this is the first song released by this great musician. What a remarkable story. Fortunately his talent was uncovered before it was too late. The music industry does not always recognize talent....it leans toward marketability and "made" musicians so we get Lady Gaga, Brittany Spears, et all.

yes, called "coming from reality." the liner notes quoted Rodriquez's girl saying a journalist asked her, "where is Rodriguez coming from?" and she said, "reality. He's coming from reality." so they took it as the title. this guy is a pure artist and soulful human being.
